ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

wonder if Tommy called his manager a dopey c**t after that 5-0 towelling....The Victory have had more goals put on 'em in two weeks than Rogic has scored in either HAL or Scotland...

The Victory have had the same number of goals put on 'em in two weeks as Liam has let in in 12 (including the 4 against the Reds). In my mind he is travelling the right way for redemption for his earlier indiscretions.

I love monty
I think he is a better player and captain than Hutchinson!
I think he is definitely top 10 current imports in aleague (probably top 5) despite not being recognised as such...
Only ADP, petkovic, broich as berisha are higher standard than him.

But at 32, in a rapidly developing league...I just don't think he will last another 5 years.

His contract has another year.
I think a 2 year extension is
A) well deserved
B) low risk and realistic.

That would mean 3 more years of playing with us...
A 4th is unlikely, and a 5th won't happen.

Added to Kareem's post, I'd like to see Monty follow the same path into coaching that Dutchy took. By the time that happens, Dutchy could be our #1, Monty would be schooled in the Mariners coaching philosophy, and we have a sure-footed management progression in place for at least the next decade.

Anyone else think we are playing great football now Marco is gone?

Was it that he did not fit in with our style?

Or was it that we have hit form and would have been even better with him in the team?

I doubt we will be able to afford him next year, so I guess we will never know.

A shame.

I think this is probably close to the truth. Our team was looking at him to do something and he was looking at them to make runs. Only Duke and Mikey were working with him. Compare him to Perez, Amini. MIkey and Tommy and they all make runs or pass - Marcos tended to do less running and so without options he came to be easily closed down.

I'm not blaming him - and with time it would probably work - but the team was just not gelling with him. Quality player and I hope we get to find out - but like you I guess we will never know.

I think we are playing better football because the turmoil at the club has calmed down and Moss is settling into his job. I think we would be better with him. I also think we will get to keep him next year. I don't think his price will be too high. Just look how long it has taken Gui Finkler to come back into the Victory starting team. He had the same injury, he is quality player and is only now becoming match fit.

Marcos will need to build his value again and I think he will be happy to do that with the Mariners. He is continually saying he will be back for the Mariners so I think we will have have him next year.

I think the change has been caceres in the midfield .
i believe we stay with him and monty and play hutch at left cb.
sterjo has really stepped up with micky gone and marcos out .

Playing Hutch at left CB might be a good idea. Keeps some experience in the team while bringing in some attacking exuberant youth.

I think its a poor idea. Zac+Sains is a great combo and our defence is one of our strong points. Don't mess with something that works.

If we're gonna play all three of Hutcho, Monty and Antho, then play them where they're supposed to be player: in midfield.

Roux-Sains-Zac-Rose
----Monty-Hutcho
-Sterj-Anthony-Fitz
-------Simon (or maybe DMac)

Hmm, I've stated it before here, but I think our main problem with Flores as #10, is that we seem to have gone at it from the "just-get-the-ball-to-Flores-at-all-cost" school of thought, so they'd pass the ball, then stop and wait for him to do something magical. I firmly believe that, if we could get them used to playing with him as yet another player, rather than playing him as a "star", we'd be an even more painful team to beat.
Until then though, I think our improvement started even before Caceres started getting played... I think it had more to do with the boys being forced into playing with a little more creativity, when Flores went out.
From his comments, I too get the impression that he would like to stay next season and that, preumably, means that he might be up for a bit of fee negotiations. He seems to gel well with the team, other than them not being sure how to use them, so that's a good start I think.
I'm a bit more uncertain when it comes to the Hutch/Caceres situation, but I actually think that it'd be worth trying to keep up the approach that was taken last weekend... It allows Caceres to play aggressively and use up a lot of energy by taking him off and then giving a pair of fairly solid defensive boots towards the end of the game when holes tend to appear... I like Caceres but, sofar, ironically, I feel that Hutch does a better defensive job... It's just not as necessary at the beginning of the game when Tesco and Chesty are still fairly fresh.

. i think this is key. his value would have dropped while in melbourne ... and his stay with us probably hasn't reversed that. add in a serious injury and he may be viewed as a risky proposition if the price is high

. but, as always, the issue becomes how competitive we can become in the 'market' and to a lesser degree how happy he is to rebuild here on the coast (clarkie may have improved our odds there). if there is not much difference in the dollars on offer, hopefully he is happy enough to stay ... but we can only be in the ballpark if his stocks have dropped low enough to make us competitive

Flores came to us at the wrong. Team & coach changes meant the cohesion from the previous season had gone.

If he came in at end of last year he would have just been another weapon.

This year the upheaval meant give it to flores & see what happens but as rightly quoted he doesn't have the pace to create his own space & is more a pocket quarterback than a running quarterback.

If he comes back next year he will be more effective with a settled coach & team. He was much more effective in the game he came on as a sub at home just before he broke down. He is suited to the other team being tired & on the back foot.

I'd have him back & with his injury & poor play his price might have dipped into the CCM zone. Also he does seem to like it here.

Could look at Hutch as a CLB when Trent disappears O/s. Move the Zac to CRB. Although I'd prefer to use say griffiths at CLB & have Hutch as part of the midfield rotation & if he's not good enough for a game then so be it.
