Knee
Rest of season & no Asian champs

Bring in Shane Sherriff on loan.
Siep hasn`t set the world on fire & isn`t in the same class as Dutchy.
Shane`s an experienced central/left defender & can play midfield.
Sainsbury could then push up into the defensive midfield roll (as suggested earlier) with Monty as the other DM
Bernie takes Weemacs spot & bob`s your mother!
Rule that one out he has a triple jaw fracture..

From the link:
"Club management will be considering its options over the coming weeks in regards to potentially adding an injury replacement player to its squad in place of Kwasnik."

I wonder how likely this is considering the financial situation? We really need an injection of midfield quality especially with the ACL coming up.
If the club does sign a replacement I hope they dig deep and get a player who genuinely strengthens the squad.

Bernie's loan fee and WeeMacs probably cancel each other out. Kwas and Flores should be covered by insurance

With Flores out I want to be like people on other forums and be unrealistic. We have lost WeeMac, Kwas and now Flores from our squad of 22 and our strikers seem to have lost their shooting boots.

I would like to reverse our trend of weakening in January and instead strengthen. We already have Bernie coming in for Wee-Mac. I'd love to get Rogic on loan to cover Marcos and wouldn't mind looking at Takahara who was mooted a couple of months ago for Kwas.

Finally to round it out Rostyn could return and play as CB/DM/RM. With Duke and Sainsbury likely to be looking OS either now or at the end of the season and Rostyn looking to return to the HAL he could be the type of utility player we could use. We could probably sign him on a fairly low wage for this year and reward him next year as a number of players retire or are releasedi

Is Rostyn looking to return?????

That would solve the DM problem.

Bernie can cover for Weemac, although he is not as good and now we need a goal scorer to assist with Dukes endeavour.

I too am curious about this Rostyn development - or is it just crossed wires with the Ryan Griffiths talk?

Rostyn would be a major coup, I rate him very highly indeed

From what I read somewhere else his contract has now expired. I believe that he is still wanting to go to Europe but won't rule out Asia or the HAL.

Rostyn Griffiths on Sydney FC coach Frank Farina's radar

Sebastian Hassett

Sydney FC coach Frank Farina will spend the next few days contemplating some tough decisions as he looks to revitalise his squad in the January transfer window.

Farina has set his sights on making several signings but is limited by a full squad – meaning some players will have to go – and a salary cap with hardly any room to move.

One name on his wish list is Rostyn Griffiths, who starred for Central Coast from 2010 to last year as a holding midfielder before making a $1.3 million switch to Chinese club Guangzhou R&F.

Griffiths would be the dream signing for a Sydney side that has lacked a quality defensive midfielder who can create forward movement and break down opposition attacks.

The 25-year-old has been on enormous money on China, earning $800,000 per season in the Chinese Super League, where his most recent boss has been former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson. He would have to take a sizeable pay cut to slot into Sydney FC's salary cap, though he would only be contracted for a few months.

It would also give him great visibility in the lead-in to the World Cup, where he could be in contention for a defensive midfield role.

A-League football: Sydney FC consider new signings to reverse form slump

Dominic Bossi

Sydney FC will consider signing new players during the January transfer period in a bid to end their form slump, but chief executive Tony Pignata says adding new players will be difficult as the club already has a full roster.

The Blues have already filled their allocated squad places and have also signed one player, Matt Thompson, as a long-term injury replacement.

But the club's recent poor run of form has prompted it to consider bringing in another player during the transfer period.

Pignata and coach Frank Farina will meet early in the new year to discuss player signings - both contract renewals of existing players and potential recruitments. However, the Sydney chief executive said any move would be subject to players being sold or seeking a move elsewhere as there were no free spots available.

The club will begin contract talks with any affected players in January.

''We're identifying who we're going to speak to, but at this stage we haven't gone out and signed them,'' Pignata said. ''We are intending on doing that in January.

'I'll speak with Frank then and see what changes he might want to make, but the transfer window doesn't open until January 14.''

Sydney FC have been linked with former Central Coast Mariners and current Guangzhou R&F defensive midfielder Rostyn Griffiths, who is understood to be looking to move back to the A-League.

Pignata said he had not yet talked to Griffiths.

''Rostyn is back but I don't know where he's at, and we haven't spoken to him,'' Pignata said.

Meanwhile, Pignata said Alessandro Del Piero's withdrawal at half-time during the Blues' 5-2 loss at home to Brisbane Roar was due to a recurrence of a niggling back injury.

Del Piero was expected to last up to an hour against the Roar, but was forced out of the contest after again suffering back pain.

''His back seized up and he left; he couldn't go on,'' Pignata said. ''He's better but not 100 per cent … He looks after himself so he will know.''

Griffiths could easily do the job and paper over some cracks...
I would be feeling so more confident with him on the team

I don't know what is worse, Ryan Griffiths at Mariners or Rostyn at Sydney.

All in all, these latest developments make me want to neck myself. Adding that my last game at Bluetongue before I move to Melbourne is this weekend, I don't think I can handle all of this.
