ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Couldn't agree more than what PP said on the active support.

The irony of people criticising the volume levels of the bay when they don't sit in there has always staggered me.

They are doing a great job i think, no less than any other years, they just don't have the numbers anymore. If we want louder, we need more people in there. It's that simple.

Criticising the volume implies, what, that they only sing at half volume or something?

We're a family club and to be frank that demographic does not a strong active supporter base make. Just look at the snapshots of the demographics of the squadron, cove or the MV.

Personally, what I think is if as an ENTIRE supporter group we had even two other chants beside 3 clap mariners that we could get the whole stadium in on it would transform the support noise levels.

This has long been a disappointment of mine, as I see it as something the club has overlooked in helping to foster and quite easily could. Instead of just "Lets hear it for your team" at inopportune moments.

I start chants regularly in my own bay, but the only one people really feel "able" to join in on, is 3 clap. I've watched tests and attended seminars on the nature of conformity... people will risk looking stupid, speaking out, trying new things, unless they are alone. They don;t like risking being alone, or in the minority. If the club gave out pamphlets and the announcer just asked people to chant along, and led the way, thereby giving permission, we could see chanting spread around the ground.

If you want to succeed, you have to find a way to use what you have, lots of people who wont sit in the bay because they are families and groups, and you want loud support, THEN FIND A WAY TO ENGAGE THEM.

Much better idea than blaming the only people who even try to make noise for the whole ninety.

And, if we really want to talk about going backwards.... let's talk half time entertainment and the lack thereof.

AND I miss the cheerleaders.

:soapbox:

Getting off now.

Good post FP.... and have often wondered at the many songs that are catchy never used by the club that can get a mood going...

At the WSW match they played an old 60's song called the Wanderer and a number of others... I think it was just clever...

The Sloop John B from the beach Boys ...Rod Stewart We are sailing ... Sailing - Christopher Cross.... If I had a Boat James Vincent McMorrow .... heaps more if we think... Like not suggesting these are for chants or anything songs played over the ground to get people in a kinda mood...lots of sailing terms used in these songs ...

Also maybe OK maybe ya maybe well sorta of but understand if I am the only one who thinks this is the Scum and a Mariner... OK at the Scum match with the Scum being the party of the song other than the Mariner... played on the screen....[BTW lots of version s of this song]

I think you've nailed that - what's the best way to communicate that idea to the club so that it gets through, tweet Lawrie? Easy done and will make a huge difference

I'm up in Bay 38 this season and it is normally FULL yet only a handful can even muster the "Mariners 3 clap" chant. I'd love to be in bay 16 but I also enjoy watching the game at the home ground.

I still sing along to some of the chants by myself.. :eek:verhead: "WEEEE all follow the yellow football team! the yellow football team! the yellow football team!" I think this one should catch on pretty easily...

I'll admit, I do miss the prawn sandwiches I used to eat on the odd occasion I wasn't in the bay

Yes.

. hmmm ... i have spoken to representatives from the club and the 'active support' recently and this is not exactly their view

. the theory is that all the fans and supporters are part of the 'yellow army' - if this is the case, this is the message that needs to get out

. i think anything else is terribly divisive

Yes.

Fair enough. My Marinators shirt still has a proud place in my wardrobe ;-)

Looks like the numbers in Bay 16 have increased from previous seasons, which is good - and they did have a bit of work cut out for them, especially as a few seasons back there pretty much wasn't a core group at all, so positive things. Long way to go to try and match the early years, but a few teams have seen their core support groups shrink massively.

Still, the increase in crowd sizesthis season can only help
