...and that Arnie starts with the diamond and switches to the 4-2-3-1 only after we're a few goals up...Hehe, nah in Arnie we trust.
Can't wait!

Traditionally our first home game we play absolute crap which drives the fence sitters away & gives them an excuse not to come for the rest of the season.
We really need a big one this weekend!!
Monty in for Pellers, back to the diamond & 3-0 up at full time....ah lifes great on the Coast!!

Last week was the start of the season so inevitably it was an opportunity to test things that Arnie had been working on during the off season.
It wasn`t the attractive football we have become accustomed to over the past 2 years but another weapon in the arsenal for us.
However,I think this week against Perth should be about giving the fans some really exciting football.
Rose & Bojic should be encouraged to push forward whenever possible & attack the flanks.
The service to Duke needs to be intensified by playing the ball into the space behind the defenders. His size & speed are his greatest attributes & need to be taken advantage of.
Once this starts to happen it will take some pressure off Mile & give him some room to move.

A good win this week, with fast attacking football will put bums on seats & will help to improve our attendences.
A drawn out tussle may soothe the purists that always attend but it won`t get the fence-sitters back.

Yep excellent advice. Olly is good at playing those balls and one of the reasons I think we miss him.

Lets hope for a cracker and a win. Be nice to get our crowds onside from the get go. Nothing more likely to drive them off than a lacklustre 4231, where Perth get one from a set piece.

Thinking out loud: I reckon another reason for the 2nd formation is to keep opposing coaches guessing otherwise they can just set up week in week out trying different things to hit the diamond. This way they can't bank on any given strategy being the lynchpin against 'how we play'...

If anything the thing I think I did not see was the movement off the ball by the mids and people up front ... or less movement than in previous seasons...

Settling in the new system could solve that...

What's the latest with Caceres? From what I saw last year in the youth league this kid has got everything to be the brain in the mariners midfield. He's the one that will service Duke and Rogic with efficient and accurate through balls.I like Duke, lot of heart, pace but the other night against wsw his first touch denied the mariners of a possible win. That's been his weakness. He's still very young so he can work and improve on his touch.I'll be at BT on Sunday.Go the Mariners!

Regarding our movement, I think it was simply a combination of opening round, 4231 and Western Sydney pressing hard with a defensive mindset.

I thought we actually had a reasonable amount of fluency, just not in critically penetrating the front third.

Glory will be tough. They are WELL UP for it. In it's way, first home game, building confidence etc. it's an important game. Looking forward to it.

Re Caceres 12th, I don;t know anything about his injury unfortunately, anyone able to chip in? But Hope your thoughts about him prove true.

Re Dukes first touch, I can't help thinking about ow much better it is than Matty's first couple of season already. But to Matty credit he greatly improved and so Duke has some boots to fill. However I'm feeling extremely optomistic about Duke, more so than any striker we have had previously to be honest. Including bernie, though I think he has potential too. And with the exception of proven old dogs like Mori And Aloi$i

Van Persie's first touch was pretty hopeless for Holland at the Euros - I have seen enough snippets of Duke to say he has a decent first touch and will go on to make a serious contribution this season. He is way ahead of Matty Simon at thi stage of his career but still has a long way to go to fill the big man's boots.

That, FP, is exactly how I see it
Hoping that that final third sticks more on Sunday

TBH I rate Jarred as a ref. I still feel it was a brave, appropriate and mature call in the last GF (which I happen to not agree with in the light of many replays). He just should never, ever have been considered for a Brisbane GF. I blame Shields and FFA for that.

And Berisha is still a diving, lying, cheating, stinking gypsy (an opinion I held well before the GF).

It was an appalling reffing decision but if FFA where fair dinkum they would have suspended Berisha for simulation.....but when have FFA ever been fair dinkum.
