Elrich (when fit) is easily able to shine at HAL level

Tommy's MV fan club is also alive and kicking - I often get gloating txts from maelb mates about it

It is in our english history and gene pool to be miserable, critical and insecure.

Laddy, who are you accusing of having an English gene pool?

Correction Greenpole:

There are three types of people in the world, in order:

Australians
Those poor humans not lucky enough to be Australian
Scouse Gits

You'd have to question whether injuries have blunted his main weapon, i.e. pace.

that is certainly the big if

still the best crosser of the ball i have seen in the HAL and that was something we were very weak at last season

OK, a quick update on squad happenings as lawrie was on coast-fm's sport show yesterday:

- doig arrives today (6:05am lol) and will at training monday
- nicky travis arrives later this week some time
- the club will only initially sign two keepers in danny and redders but according to john crawley have the best two young keepers in the country as cover in the youth team
- all the triallists from a few weeks ago will not be signed (serbs, italian, rostyn griffiths etc)
- still to sign an under 21 player which looks like being this welsh lad
- more triallists in the next couple of weeks including a korean

i think that was all, luke did you have anything to add as you did the interview?

Freeing up a space with Nash going then, not that this would open up a huge amount of cap space.

Why were the serbs not signed, they played in the top league over there they must be good? ;) According to a few reports I heard the welsh lad was the only 1 worth signing.

ha ha, love the cynicism in that post Deej.

If they came here, trialled and were found not good enough for what Lawrie and the team needed then fair enough. If, however, they simply couldn't agree to terms because was offering too few $$ then this may come back to bite as they may trial for another A-League team.

The simple fact they headed to Australia instead of a nearby European league, where trialling would have been a lot easier financially for them to do off their own expense & the luxury of being closer to home, leads to suggest the former reason rather than the latter.

Thanks Mick that's a good summary... Better we don't sign players not up to scratch and keep looking... just we are leaving it a bit short on time..

Lots of Euro based players (and those that want to get a contract o/s) will be trying their hardest over there and Australia will be very much plan B.

No need to panic

Here's another story to consider. Watford got off to a strong start in 07/08, with Aidy Boothroyd having won some praise for getting them promoted to the Premiership and putting up a fight despite not being nearly good enough there. However, the cracks than appeared in their very limited gameplan and they only scraped into the play-offs. Last season saw him pay the price for that loss of form, and Brendan Rogers kept them up comfortably in the end.

There are lessons that can be applied here, and elsewhere. Not only can the sheen can easily wear off a manager in a remarkably short time, but also that only just "scraping in" may also be a negative sign longer term.
