Can someone please remind me what was so appalling about the Australian Soccer Federation and National Soccer League!

I welcomed the new football regime with open arms in 2004 and now I am wondering just why I was so optimistic.

We've got a bigger problem now ...

FFA is a joke,  :redcard:
its is so infurating at the way they treat us.
Hopefully they reduce the Ban and dont extend it to the Olyroos' Beacuse its going to mean losing a medal if they do.

And they are really hurting the game by such a long ban, Danny is a man of the people!
I have also heard a few people talk about Boycotting going to away games until his Ban is over..
thats something im not sure i agree with, but at this point am considering..

Silliest suggestion ever. For say Perth, Adelaide and Wellington games we are talking less than probably 20 people unless it's an organised trip or a long weekend, Melbourne and Qld it's probably under a hundred, and for Sydney and Newcastle it'll hurt our team more not having support there.

I'll be going to every away game I can attend next year (possibly with one venue as an exception) mainly because if I can support the boys I will.

To the Danny V incident, we can argue about the severity but not his guilt, they may of got it wrong in the past (they will probably get it wrong in the future too) but they got it right this time. Lets let the club deal with the appeal and then start planning for next year.

Calling all Mariners supporters. We need to send a big message to the FFA on Danny's suspension. To assist his appeal we need every person we can find to sign an online petition and give their testimonials on what Danny has done for the community and the sport.

We all know what a great bloke he is so let's get behind his appeal and get him and his passion to Beijing.

How many on line signatures can we get?

The site should be live thru myspace in the next 24 hours so rally the troops. We only have 5 more days until the appeal is heard.

Let's go Marinators.

Call me on 0420-959065 if you can help. Signs, banners, radio support let's get the word out and show DANNY what we think of his superb season and passion for the game !!!

I will update at this thread when we are live - spread the word savedanny.com.au

it seems like a noble cause but it wont do shit IMO, any petition with email will be deleted straight from their inbox without a read. You have to realise though what he did was wrong and since the olympics are one of the first competitive games he would normally be selected for after the ban was handed down, the odds are stacked against him for the games. the best we could hope on appeal, is probably to shave a bit of his ban in the form of a suspension. Still I wish you all the best with this

Soccer..... I commend you for making the effort, in getting the voice of the people out there as best you can, and in the support that you are showing Danny... if we all just sat around and moaned about it here, the true feelings and disappointment of fans would not be heard...

I say good onya mate.... at least your trying to do something about this disgrace of a penalty that Danny is facing!....
you can count on my support

Now onto the quality of refereeing. Please help us....I say we invade Asia and just pay Malaysians and Japanese and Middle Eastern refs, because our standard is $hithouse. Peter Green is the best of a worst bunch, and the AR's are even worse.

Before you wish Asian referees upon us, check this out! A recent match between Japan and China where the ref was never in control ...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSDbXOqqTvo&feature=related

China got busted (http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/sports/2008-02/26/content_6485571.htm)

The referee was North Korean, which explains the leniency. DPRK don't much like China anymore, but they sure as hell hate Japan about as much as the US.

Mariners to appeal Vukovic ban

Central Coast Mariners have announced they will appeal the lengthy suspension handed to goalkeeper Danny Vukovic for striking referee Mark Shield in the A-League grand final.

Football Federation Australia Monday night slapped Vukovic with a 15-month ban for the incident, with six months of it suspended and only activated if he re-offends within a year of returning.

Vukovic was shown a red card in Sunday night's 1-0 loss to Newcastle after hitting Shield on the arm when a late penalty appeal was turned down for what television replays showed was a hand ball by Jets midfielder James Holland.

The Mariners said on Tuesday Vukovic was full of remorse but confirmed they would appeal the severity of the penalty.

"We can say that Danny deeply regrets his actions and he apologised to the referee immediately after the game verbally and today he has sent a formal written apology to the referee as well as to the referee's manager of the FFA and to the FFA," Mariners executive chairman Lyall Gorman said.

"I can say it's sincere. I think you all know Danny's record on and off the field and there's tremendous remorse in his action on the weekend.

"The club is of the view that the severity of the sanction for such a player of his record is excessive, despite the serious nature of the charge."

Gorman said he had written to the FFA asking the appeal be heard as quickly as possible: "to put Danny's mind at ease and let both the club and Danny plan for the future."

The Olyroos regular's ban threatens his chance to represent Australia at the Beijing Olympics in August with FFA still deciding whether the ban will extend beyond the A-League into national team duty.

The Mariners also issued a formal apology after the FFA launched an investigation into an incident involving Andre Gumprecht and Tony Vidmar at the Mariners' end-of-year celebrations on Monday.

Gumprecht appeared in a photograph dressed as Adolf Hitler while departing veteran Vidmar was dressed as 'God' with his face blackened.

FFA CEO Ben Buckley described the players' actions as "stupid" while Jewish groups have labelled the stunt as being in poor taste.

Gorman defended the character of both players, saying they did not mean to cause offence.

"The club has determined following speaking with both players that neither meant any offence or insensitivity with their costumes in any way," Gorman said.

"We've reinforced vigorously with the players today they need to be particularly careful in relation to sensitive issues which may cause offence to the public or particular sectors of it.

"To that extent, on behalf of the players if any groups were offended by their dress yesterday the club and the players apologise and reiterate that no such offence was intended."

Look - I know I am not going to be popular but I'm not going to condone Danny's behaviour though I think the treatment he has received is  harsh. Honestly though I think the behaviour of our players near the end of the match was ill-disciplined and not what I expect from the Mariners but rather Sydney Newcastle Adelaide or Queensland. Mass complaining and touching the ref needs to be stopped.

Compare the player behaviour to that of Lawrie and Lyall since the Grand Final - all professionalism. They have supported their player/s and are going through the proper processes.

Let's not dwell on the negatives. Yea - we played a bad game and Danny is in strife. But we had a good season, we are premiers, we are going to Asia. Our club is well run and our team is well managed. Let Lyall and Lawrie deal with the FFA - they will have more chance of being listened to than us.

Just wondering, this means that he won't be able to play in the ACL with us doesn't it?
We're not in the champions league until this time next year so he should be right aslong as he is still with us/hasn't reoffended

Hey what do you guys think about Covic taking Vukovic's place at the Olympics?
considering Covic is 33 in June, he'd have to be one of the 3 overage players allowed then....which Arnold would not want to do...especially with someone who's only half as good as the real Vukovic.

Well not only would it be hilarious, but the Olyroos would need a decent keeper to fill in for Vukovic. I dont really fancy the other options, Velaphi and Pasfield are useless.

Id go with Schwarzer if an old player was the go. What about someone like Federici or Van Stratten. Because they are either under age or borderline overage

EPL clubs wouldn't be keen on releasing their players for the Olympics, especially if they haven't been part of the U-23's squad for qualifying.

Covic however will have no club commitments.
