I disagree with some on here and say we do deserve to be in the finals. Moreso than Sydney at least, and as for Wellington I can't see them taking maximum points from their last two games.

Last night we were right in the game until their second goal, then composure dropped off completely. I agree that Musc**t is a c**t, I swear the man is the new sack-whacker in terms of how much he gets away with stuff. He should have been red-carded last weekend for his trip on Dadi at least, and he was back to his usual cheap-shot antics last night.  :redcard: It would give me great satisfaction to see him break his leg in the finals.

I do want to see us make the finals because I think we deserve it, but I'd be content if we get knocked out by Queensland. We might beat them at Suncorp, but you just know they will find a way to score more goals than us at home and progress through. I would rather that happen then have us get into the GF MIghty-Ducks style, playing the Tards at the Dome and have it all locked up in a thrilling game until the 90th minute when Archie the ***** scores his obligitory goal against us and smiles arrogantly across his ***** face as we have to deal with crushed hopes yet again.

Danny: 7/10 - Got to every cross, was not at all at fault for any of the goals
I looked at the game (funny to see a game at 10 am) and I really think he's quiet reponsible on the free kick of Henandez.
I think your defense killed any hope for this game...even if Victory was really good (I discovered Allspop/thompson, classy players). But come on, nothing is done, you're still 4th, Wellington won't beat Adelaide. Keep hope guys  ;)

that's true. but it also has advantages, like making a boring lecture a lot more interesting - like today :)

WOW this fan club is so disloyal to the players, I hope Heffs mum doesnt read this!  Last year you all loved Aloi$i now you have a hate blog about him. Why so much hate in this forum?

It isn't a fan club it's a public forum with over 1,000 members! Some know a lot, some know a little, some have NFI; some are considered, some are passionate, some are trolls from other teams, and some are just total wankers or loonies!  That's life. The trick is to work out very quickly who is what and who to ignore ...

Don't like him either, but be careful with the words you use. Could be very offensive to some people.

Who could do a better job defending than Heff! I take my hat off to him, he comes back after a bad injury, plays a match while he is sick with the flu and he cant see out of one eye (considering the circumstances I thought he played well).  You all loved him when he was scoring goals and making the Mariners money when he went to Germany! Yeah maybe I am biased because he is my mate.

Okay so your saying we should support ossie even when he is playing for GC because he for a period of time pulled on our shirt? you're having a laugh. You conveniently gloss over the fact that we still have massive respect for the player Tommy P was and how he exited the club.

As to Heff, all the circumstances you listed suggests that he shouldn't be playing. which is half the point and where the frustration is coming from, we lost 3 nil that simply means our defense wasn't good enough which isn't solely Heff's fault but the whole teams problem. The defense needs to be fixed in less than 3 months.

To be honest you seem to be here only to support your mate (fair enough) and have little or no passion for the club he plays for. A lot here support the club and have little or no contact with the players and results and success is what we want.

Now with regards to any player or LM being replaced, no good replacing with anyone of lesser quality. Is there anyone in Australia available that could do a better job? If we were to replace him it has to be someone from overseas. We have seen the same thing with players, because no one better than gumps was out there and available we brought him back into the fold. Do we need to start looking overseas yes, but lets not get a Zura or one of the other countless flops of imports. In the club we trust!

p.s - we chuckled at the marinators outsinging the tards at the dome too

I registered to reply to this. You are absolutely dreaming if you think a bunch of Marinators (admittedly nice people etc) are ever going to outsing one, let alone both, of our ends.

Foxsports has put the effects microphones in front of the away fans this season. We're not sure why, most likely because of the amount of swearing we put into our chants.

It's nice to dream but don't start pretending you guys will ever be in the league of MVFC supporters

I was there last night and i didnt see an effects mic infront of us

The main thing that I hate about last night is that we played very well for 60 mins or so, defensively solid, moved the ball around, and had them on the back foot. The problem is we didn't nail them with a couple of goals and put them under pressure. Instead we lost shape, let out heads droop, and even ran out of puff.

Next week with Clarky and Heff out, lawrie will have to move Smitta (BP) back to right back, but I'd consider bringing in Tibbets from the NYL for left back and keep Pedj centre, with O'Grady on bench in case the youngster runs out of legs. It is a big risk with what Adelaide have to run at you but Stringers is too slow and too slow to turn and the reds play on the ground not in the air.

That very same thing happened last week against the Roar. Real frustrating.

We are loyal to the club/badge/shirt.

We will be here spending our money long after the current players/coaches have gone.

The loyalty they show the club (Aloisi for example) is that of employer/employee. Ours is a lifetime obsession.

Well Just got home off the Plane from Melbourne. Nice little group of supporters last night and we did our best and also had a good battle with the north terrace.

Eggy, didnt you want to get off the plane this morning? still sleeping after we landed at newcastle.

The game well it wasnt the best game from either side, game of defending really. We didnt take our chances in the 2nd half where as Melbourne took thiers. We did drop off after they scored, which is why they scored 2 more.

Not all hope is lost this year, we can beat the teams in the top 4, the players need a rocket shoved up them and realise what is on stake in the games.

Yep, if we has slotted one or two of our many missed opportunites in the first half things would have been very different. The fact we dominated MV for over 60 minutes but couldn't find the net was our downfall. Once MV scored though we lost shape and didn't do the basics.

You're a disgusting racist. You wouldn't say that to Archie's face, so you're a coward too. You make me ashamed.

The one thing that put a smile on my face during the game was hearing "Ar-chie Thompson, what a wanker, what a wanker" crystal clear on my Fox Sports HD - on several occasions. Good work guys.

Melbourne defeat sets up grand finale

The Central Coast Mariners 3-0 loss to the Melbourne Victory at the Telstra Dome this evening has set the scene for a gripping final round of the Hyundai A-League 2008/09 season.

Three goals over seven second half minutes ensured that the Mariners Finals Series ambitions will be decided on the final day of the season, when the yellow and navy will face fellow Finals Series aspirants Adelaide United at Bluetongue Stadium.

It could have and perhaps should have been a much different story for a valiant Mariners side that looked capable of emerging from the intimidating Telstra Dome atmosphere with at least a share of the spoils.

Dominant in terms of possession and chances up until the hour mark, Daniel Allsopp, Carlos Hernandez and Archie Thompson turned the tables when each finding the back of the net midway through the second stanza to confirm the Mariners' sixth defeat of the campaign and their first loss on the back of another.

The Mariners' clash against Adelaide United at Bluetongue Stadium on Sunday, 25 January will now almost certainly seal the yellow and navy's Hyundai A-League 2008/09 fate, with a Finals Series berth far from a formality for the reigning Premiers.

"It was those seven minutes that killed us, we felt well on top up to that point," said Mariners Football Manager Lawrie McKinna after the match.

"Apart from the first fifteen minutes where they put us under a bit of pressure, we dealt with Melbourne really well and dominated them.

"After that seven minute period the game was gone, but before that we felt that it was well in our grasp."

Perhaps the Mariners best throughout the first half was midfield talisman Andre Gumprecht, who having celebrated the birth of his daughter Amelia in the early hours of the morning showed great spirit to overcome a nasty head clash and produce a performance of quality.

Gumprecht was involved in nearly all of the Mariners attacking movement and in combination with fellow starting eleven newcomer Andrew Clark, provided a flurry of crosses into the penalty area that tested the Victory defence.

The Mariners most likely outlet for a goal looked to be from corners, with Bradley Porter bamboozling Melbourne goalkeeper Michael Theoklitos on more than one occasion with wicked centres close to goal.

Porters combination with midfield partners Gumprecht and John Hutchinson was a feature of the Mariners play throughout the opening stanza and with Dylan Macallister, Nik Mrdja and Matt Simon each as hungry as the other up front, the Mariners looked a team capable of ending Melbournes four-match winning run at the Telstra Dome.

The visitors began the second half with even greater purpose and were it not for an uncharacteristic miss from Matt Simon in front of goal after some sublime lead up from Porter and Hutchinson, the Mariners could well have built on an early advantage.

Simons chance was not the Mariners sole opportunity of the half, however, with Mrdja coming close with a typically fierce left footed drive from the fringe of the penalty area that flew past the far upright.

What dominance the Mariners had enjoyed was quickly forgotten in the space of seven devastating minutes midway through the half, however, when the Victory underlined their class with a trio of telling strikes.

Firstly, Allsopp was on the receiving end of a well-weighted Thompson cross before Hernandez slammed home a stunning free kick from the edge of the penalty box.

With the Mariners barely able to draw breath, Thompson made it three on 75 minutes with an elegant finish from close range after finding space behind the yellow and navy backline.

Dean Heffernans dismissal late in the match, combined with Andrew Clarks earlier suspension due to recieving his fifth caution of the campaign, added to what quickly became a miserable outing for McKinnas charges, who must now regroup to mount a late bid for a third Finals Series berth.

"The last two games, we feel as though we should have won them last week we conceded four bad goals, this week it was three," said McKinna.

"We shouldnt be relying on Adelaide beating Wellington, fingers crossed that they get a good result but weve made it hard for ourselves to make it into the Finals Series."

The Mariners will be back at their Bluetongue Stadium home on Sunday, 25 January to host AFC Champions League finalists Adelaide United in the final regular season round of the Hyundai A-League 2008/09 campaign. Kick off is at 7pm.

Tickets for this match are on sale from Ticketek outlets, from the Ticketek website www.ticketek.com.au, or via phone on 132 849.
