ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

I've not done so for several months actually, this is the first time because for some inane reason it persists as a thread :p

FWIW I thought he was utter dross against WSW the other night :poo:

6 shots on goal in 60 mins = 1 every 10 mins.

With one taken from outside the 18 yrd - smashing into the crossbar.

When was the last time we had a player score from outside the 18 ???

In fact last nite our entire squad (15 players) only managed 1 more shot on goal (7) in a full 90 mins than what Simon managed on his own in 60.

Sometimes people only see what they want to see when watching a football game and overlook the things they dont want see. Conciously or sub-conciously.

Each to their own I guess. :)

Agreed. I didn't see this either. If you know what I mean! It's not really fair pinning all the blame on the defence when the midfield and forwards are contibuting so little to attack. What happened to the 'entertainment attacking style'? A solitary lone run from half way just doesn't cut it, even if that run resulted in a spectacular goal.

This point last year we'd scored 18 goals - same time this year we've scored 26. I think some people forget how bad we were under Moss - and with arguably "better quality players".

Its now safe to say we made the right choice to get rid Matt Simon.

Unlikely.
Most of Simon's games were 3o min cameos of the bench.
Against the most shit defence in HAL he scored 2 in one such cameo.

You can see quickly that Roy is a much more skilful striker than Matty. Both have a similar work rate and temperament...

Roy headbutts better. But no one bests matty in getting tangled. He used to look like a baby giraffe on ice until he clattered into someone and then he'd begin his impersonation of a tarantula trying to get off a toffee apple.

Probably also worth noting I (presume) Simon played plenty more games than Roy?

The statistics show Roy has an avge 80 odd minutes per game.

Matty's stats shows he only gets half that at around 40min.

I think thats pretty telling for a comparison, perhaps even shifting your point in the opposite direction.

Simon has 3 goals from 827 minutes whilst Roy has 7 from 1489.

But two of Simon's goals came against a ten man Mariners side that served them up on a plate, and the only other time he has scored was against Adelaide a few weeks back.

Roy hasn't had the luxury of playing against us.

The fact he hasn't been given game time in the first place indicates he isn't good enough. Arnie would prefer giving Blackwood a go or ageing Smelts. Arnie obviously sees him as a squad player now.

I'm glad someone else sees this. The fact there's even a comparison is laughable. Simon is past it. Nice bloke, but past it. At HAL level anyway.

I don't think he's past it but I do think Roy is a much better option for us - Roy has the same work ethic and energy but far superior touch
