ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

. i don't understand the comparisons between roy and matty

. as i have stated before - i suspect tony and hutch 'let matty go' because they couldn't afford his wage demands ... with half an expectation that he wouldn't be able to find a similar gig somewhere else - and then offer him a lesser package

. in the end he found a gig with sydney and we recruited dan heffernan instead. so i think the valid comparison should be between simon and heff.2

Good for him. He always contributes if not always in goals. Which is a lot more than can be said for a lot of other strikers - or mids for that matter.

Do you need to visit Specsavers FP???? Or was the Grandfather Port rather good?

Matty would wish he could play us every week. He played 20 mins and scored 2 lovely (completely unmarked) goals against us and 1 other for the rest of the season, in the non Mariners games.

Cheese Boy...i'm not slagging Matty.
I'd have him back.
I was slagging our pathetic, uncoached back 5.

16 players contracted, their backline looks ok with the addition of Wilko/Zullo, Brillante was a good pick up, they are paying a bit for two 1st team keepers, Ibini and Brosque still to come (both returning from serious injury) however I am still not convinced about their squad after last season. Some serious recruitment still required if they think they can win the league.

Hypothetical of course, but I really don't think we need him. We've got enough bustlers, we need finishers. He's had maybe one or one and a half good seasons of being a finisher in his 10 or so years - pass.

I'm not saying I love our squad as it is, but I can't see what he would have added, had we picked him up. Maybe a bit of positive coastie PR, but that's a pretty shit reason to sign someone and it will wane if he's not getting used.

Sydney FC hero Matt Simon, who scored twice in their 3-0 Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 win over Wollongong Wolves on Wednesday night, says the Sky Blues deserved to progress.
In front of a record Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 crowd of 8029, it took a second half brace from Matt Simon and a stoppage-time strike from David Carney to ensure there would be no Cup boilover.

FFA Cup round of 16 draw revealed

“We knew it’d be a tough game from the get-go and it’s always nice to score goals but the boys stuck it out well and we got our just rewards for dominating the game,” he told Fox Sports.

Josh MacDonald hit the post for the Wolves late on but that’s as close as they would get as Carney put the icing on the cake at the death as the Sky Blues progressed on the South Coast.

Simon added the Cup is one of the team’s goals in terms of trophy hunting this season.

And to win the Cup they’ll have to dispatch a tough Perth Glory who defeated Roar 2-0 in Brisbane also on Wednesday night.

“We set some goals at the start of pre-season and last year was disappointing for us in the A-League and we want to win all three trophies on offer this year.

“And that started tonight.”

Coach Graham Arnold added he was happy with the draw saying he was looking forward to the trip to Perth.
