ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Matt Simon signs with Sydney FC

Thought Matty Simon had his best game last night against Adelaide for the sky-blues thus far.

Cirio scored for the Red's in the 2nd minute, Seb Ryalls unlucky clearance rebounding straight into the net off Cirio's boot.

Matty picked up his 'obligatory' yellow card at 34min.

Must of fired him up as 3 mins later he was on the end of nicely lofted pass from Holosko, getting inside of his defender with a beautiful diving header. Levelling at 1-1 in the 37th min.

Cirio got his second at 45min.

Holosko levelled the scores 3 mins into extra time, leaving it at 2-2 going into the half-time break.

Simon nearly gave the Sky Blues the lead on 75 minutes with another powerful header after a teasing corner but his effort was just wide.

Score remained the same, 2-2 at FT in what was a tightly contested and 'entertaining' 2nd half. Arnie will be able to deliver more 'entertainment' :p with Brosque coming back from injury next week.

Matt's hold-up play and distribution to the wide areas was superb and is a part of his game that's really come on in leaps and bounds, dropping into the pocket looking for the ball.

He started this match (his 4th start for the season) and has now managed to play in 14 games. Arnie subbed Matty at the 85th min, bringing on Smeltz - who again didn't really look much despite his fresh leg's.

If not for getting his 5th yellow and being suspended for SydFC next game, I'm sure Arnie would've given Simon another start.

He also picked up the 1pt in the Alex Tobin- 321.

So much for those saying he'd struggle to get a run and be 'just a squaddie'. ;)

I must admit when he got the yellow I got another beer so I could sit down and watch him get another yellow.
The goal seemed to calm him down though. But that was his fifth for the season. Is he out next week?

I've only seen the first half (I couldn't stomach any more), and the one shot MS had looked very similar to his early efforts at BT -- would've cleared the palm trees & landed in the drink.

You must of been dozing off. :tv:

HE HIT THE CROSSBAR !!! o_O & just missed a header as well + many other opportunities.

Thought he had a great game for the sky blue.

Arnie was stupid in subbing him off for Smeltz - who didn't do much.

GA instead should have taken off Carney & replaced him with Hoole.

Simon, who was looking like he was going to score any second before Arnie pulled his plug and just may have if Hoole had have been deployed.

He would of provided more energy than what Carney was providing on the flank.

I thought Simon was easy worth at least a 1pt (Alex Tobin Award - behind Alex Brosque) for the 60 mins he played.

OPTA DATA KEY STATS

* Sydney FC’s unbeaten run in the Derby has now stretched to seven games.

* Sky Blues striker Matt Simon was only on the pitch for an hour but had six shots himself, one of which hit the crossbar.

That's on average a shot on goal every 10 mins.

Wouldn't mind seeing that at CC Stadium ....... would also find it entertaining.

Matty had a great game in the Mcbreen role, he just can't finish.

Sydney fans can't stand him. Screaming for him to be subbed after 5 mins.

Sadly, Arnie doest have a Bernie or Dukey to play off him

Is there an argument for this thread to be moved to the general Aus Football section?

Personally Simon's not a CCM player anymore and I have no interest in reading about him.

Be just as easy not 'click' on the thread if not reading about him is what you're after. :-|

Sure, he's NOT @ CCM anymore & there are a few on here that don't rate him/don't care etc.

But there are quite a few who still - 'show the love' for a born'n'breed Coastie that Matty Simon IS. Who also happens to still be our highest goal-scorer ever, was loyal and gave his all for the club.

He didn't celebrate his x2 wonder goals in his 1st game out against us at CCS, despite the Club NOT wanting him & I really respect that about him, as do a few others I'm sure.
