Poor babies.

On another note .. I am one of the 20% of members who live south of the Hawkesbury ... perhaps asking us directly if we want more games at NSO would have been good marketing intelligence?
Agree I used to live in Epping an BT is easier to get to than NSO

First good argument I've seen for moving a signifanct number of games down there ;)

Thinking the exact same thing haha. If it pisses Sydney FC off, let's do it* ;)
They seem very threatened by the idea.

(* let's not... I just think Sydney FC's reaction is hilarious!)

Sydney FC, the team for all of Sydney, is getting squeezed from two directions. WSW from one side and CCM from the other. It's like 1945.
I wonder if Tony Pignata spends most of his time in a bunker deep under Martin Place pushing imaginary armies around on a big map. :santa:

Maybe SFC could play a community round there, with a view to several games next year, if they are so worried about protecting their turf.

I am sure it would be cheaper than the SFS.
Sensible. Better than going to Campbelltown or wherever they last went.

Quotes from the article:
Barlow was assured by both Football Federation Australia and Charlesworth that the Mariners would not relocate permanently away from the Central Coast, but said he would not be happy with even a partial relocation that involved them moving several home games to North Sydney Oval.

''It's been made very clear to me by both the FFA and the Mariners that they've got no intention of relocating to north Sydney, and they see they're home as the Central Coast and that won't be changing,'' he said.

End Quotes

This is a much better acknowledgement & denial than anything in that stupid presser from the other day.
But can you trust what SFC are saying? Probably more so because they use the FFA as quote - As if the mariners would tell them their plans.

Dibo - Maybe you were right just maybe the FFA don't want us at NSO either & want us to stay.

Pitty I get more from a SFC defence of neighbouring turf than I do from my own club. Still would like to see something more official than hearsay from a CEO of a club about what the FFA actually think of the matter. A little presser from them would be nice but they probably been caught on the hop to & is it more about not upsetting SFC than protecting us?

Cudos to Ancient Mariner for a cooler head than mine - i still feel MC has desires than don't match the fans thoughts or interests & better communication is required to get us to under stand, we aren't stupid so don't treat us that way. Like all good relationships communication is the key.

Adz - Maybe some of the discussed locations for boards/signs could donate the space as a community involvement & their form of contribution/sponsorship. Not every thing needs to be in cash. Could be sign spaces not currently used that we could give up as soon as they find a buyer for the space. E.g. The advert could contain the contact details to advertise in this space.

Not sure if the FFA would allow it but it would be in there interests to help revenue streams for the clubs but you could either have an advertisement painted on to the grass E.G. Tourism CC or a digital version like the tenis with the visit Melbourne - Might have to go halves with Foxtel, FFA etc (actually they would hijack it forthemselves - But if the FFA made it part of the agreement that a percentage of that advertising goes to the clubs that could help).

How much promotion of the games do you have there on the coast? Do most people in the community know when a game is on?

A fair bit, the major local stations, 2GO and Star at least, run promotions heavily coming up to the games... Every time I've gotten in the car for the last week, I've heard a spot for tomorrow's game.
It sort of goes with my comment earlier, in one of the other threads, I actually think MC has done quite an extraordinary job in improving/increasing the promotional work by the club, beyond the occasional visit of a Mariner here and there... It's an ENORMOUS improvement over the last couple of years... Which is why it's so surprising to me, that, at the same time, he seems to come up with ill-considered marketing moves like the suggestion of moving almost half our home-games to NSO next year.

We now have three reasons why a permanent move is off the agenda IMO ... HHHMMM maybe never on it ... however it comes back to numbers ..ie 1 , 2 , 3 , games etc ...

My three reasons ... 1] the COE is an asset for Football in Australia, it was used in the WCB and is often sited by FFA when talking up Football, if we left or folded it would more than likely become part of the Wyong RL club or Easts / Penrith etc not an asset Football can afford to loose .. 2] After the GC & N QLD, FFA do not want another club to fold, especially a successful one ... 3] SFC do not want us in their backyard....

For me expanding the fan base into Northern Sydney is a reasonable goal ... I do question NSO, it is a cow to get to, parking is a nightmare, it's an oval shape .... Brookvale is closer to the Coast shares similar values in that it is a beach and water area ... is the right shape and the Northern Beaches have a strong local competition and Football over the years has received HHHHHmmmmm reasonable [for football] media coverage from the Manly Daily ...

To get to NSO was a pain on Friday nights when the NS played their.... they sorta relied I think on office workers coming after work...

Its seems obvious FFA want us to stay on the Coast ... further it seems MC wants to extent the fan base [which is not a bad thing] ... the process I guess is the question and communicating ideas is important ... with MC overseas a fair bit ... I assume a new CEO will be in time appointed and hopefully this person will be the communication person... [wonders aloud if we could get Gorman back]

I guess it comes down to how many games are lost and as Kev said is it the best approach anyway ...

There's one thing that seems to be forgotten though - not to pour fuel on the fire... A move to NSO doesn't mean abandoning the COE... That's one of the reasons why I didn't feel that much comfort was received from the email yesterday. There's not reason, that I can think of, why the club couldn't remain based at the COE but play at NSO... It is still a problem for me, as a fan though, as the engagement point is the games, so that is where you truly notice the regional connection.

TBF, in terms of players in their catchment, they're probably over-catered if anything, meaning they can't do the community outreach that WSW do or anything like what CCM do.

Rough numbers -

Canterbury: 13k
Eastern Suburbs: 6k
Gladesville-Hornsby: 13k
Ku-Ring-Gai: 16k
Manly Warringah: 16k
North West Sydney Women: 3k
St George: 8k
Sutherland Shire: 18k
TOTAL: 93k.

That's nearly 2/3 of Sydney's football population (the western suburbs associations add on another 50k).

There are 45k south of the Harbour, 48k north. TBH - I think there's actually room for a club in the north of Sydney to be as successful as WSW and allow SFC to focus their attention to the south.

How is Brookvale Oval closer to the coast than NSO?
