Mariners Vs Meow - Round 20

Van Dijk would be an awesome signing for any HAL side let alone us. Suspect the $$ freed up by letting Miller walk and foisting that wanker Reddy on SFC will help them re-sign him.

3 yoof players trained with the seniors this week and none of them were given a go. How Bojic can get a game when Nikas is available baffles me TBH.

The tactic of dropping the starting striker to yoof as punishment and recalling the previous weeks dud is losing its impact. Nik will be back on Weds and Kwas in yoof with Dmac on the bench.

SFC XI will be

Danny
Porter Boogs Wilko Heff
Travis Hutch Wee Mac Lewis
Matty Nik/DMac

Unbalanced is the word I am looking for

Utterly frustrating, crap crowd - alot of excuses can be made but 5k is just not good enough. Supporter bay is also shit this year, you lot will probably 'ave a go at me for saying it but its woeful - we're not melbourne, we need one group not two it just doesnt work.

As for the game, i thought we fought back pretty well, yes we were gifted a goal but we had more than enough chances to at least draw the game, same old story really - we just lack the quality up front - matty tried his guts out and love him for it but the rest arent up to standard - mrdja, kwas, dmac... imo matty makes a great supporting striker but isnt a frontline striker, the kind of striker we need imo is one to work the other strikers around in the mould of an archie thompson, van dyke, smeltz etc etc... i dont think its any coincedence that our most successful year was when we had a frontline striker (who was in form and suited our style of play) in Aloi$i around whom the other guys played around.

defensively we seem to have run out of confidence and back to our ACL ways, Doig is a great signing on paper but is injured so often, i think the table doesnt lie at this point and we are positioned about right given our lack of quality, im not that dissapointed in this as we still compete well but we shouldnt expect too much this year either imo... p.s: would love to have tommy oar in our team, quality player

Gotta agree with what tou say

Plus I thro Matty big miss was not the only thing he did wromg...

Without trying OK OK I am ... If something is not working then it needs fixing... LM needs to fix the obovious.

1. Porter is not a right back...

2. Aside from Matty are strikers are not worth feeding...

3. Matthew Lewis was taken off after he had got totally on top of his defender.

4. Not marking up in the final third is asking for trouble,

On balance it was a good game but we lost it .. QLD did nor win it.

What has happen tp our crowd ? ? ?

It's funny how we all have different perspectives on the same game. I have to agree that Clarkie had a cracker of a game, but we did miss Heff's attacking raids towards the end of the game. Nonetheless, a big thumbs up for Clarkie. In my opinion Travis was MoM and daylight was second. I thought his ball control, vision and willingness to commit to a challenge tonight was superb. I thought weeMac was class as well. I love the way he drops his shoulder and either attacks the ball or dummies, it keeps the defenders on their toes. WeeMac and Travis are a great mid field... I love it!

On Simon, I thought it was his usual performance. He worked his ring off!!! I got pissed off with the supporters around me who started to have a go at him at the end of the game. If he did fall off it was because he had no gas left in the tank. Matty never leaves you wondering. I liked his first touches tonight...  a big improvement from previous efforts.

Back to weeMac and Travis. At the injury break in the first half, they were really getting up Boogs and Porter. It was good to see IMO. People tell me Wilko is a good leader... but I dont see it. There are so many calls for Doig to come back so he can organize the defence. Shouldn't our captain have that under control? Anyway, what I didn't like was at the end of the match, weeMac and Travis walked off the pitch, barely acknowledging the crowd. A bit petulant if you ask me. The Coastie Boys... or whoever are down the front of Bay 23 deserved better recognition if you ask me.

All-in-all... I enjoyed the game. We got off to a slow start but clicked into gear. Brisbane are dark horses for the title and we did well against them. Yeah, we didn't win and there is room for improvement, but f**k, I was on the edge of my seat and loving every second of it... even when I was pulling what's left of my hair out.

:postcount:

Super post.

The only negative is the 1hr 20 min drive home after a loss like that;. It is very difficult for someone like me who detests losing.

Yeah, weird decision that. After a relatively quiet first half, Matthew was murdering his opposite number when taken off. WTF?

At one point does the coach take the blame?  (This is not the reopening of the Lawrie out thread).  3 losses in a row and the same errors occurring week after week.  Obviously Lawrie has talent and some idea what to do but its not being put into practice.  How long will we just hold off the opposition and let them run?  How much longer will we have to put up with an attack that seems to forget where the goals are?  How many more times are we going to herald the arrival of new players only to have them leave without playing or succumb to the continual injuries that have plagued their past?  How are we expected to win games, increase crowd numbers and take our rightful place in the pantheon of A-League champions creating a glorious dynasty that will demand not a chapter but a testament to the greatness of all things blue, yellow and central coast, when we lose one player and everything turns to sh*t?  How many times will our (my) hopes be raised to only have them dashed, shattered, obliterated, destroyed, annihilated (and so on) and then have to deal with the smug looks and comments of scum and bling supporters.

Couldn't make last night's game (that's 2 in a row now) and after watching the game when I got home I'm half-glad I didn't go.  My manager is already talking about decreasing our membership, as the kids don't seem to enjoy it any more.  I love going to the games but it gets harder and harder to go after the ineptitude being presented on an ever increasing basis.

Forget the crowd numbers.  Lets focus on what needs to be fixed and changed and get on with the job.  We're not going to come top of the league that much is obvious.  So lets aim for the top 6 and then make life as hard as possible for all the other 5.

Good post.

I think the waning loyalty you show is echoed in many CC households and the reasons are that the club has completely f**ked up with its fixtures this year, we are not winning at home, we dont have any drawcard players and playing on the counter at home JUST DOESNT WORK.

The club needs to have a long hard look at some of the decisions it has made this season and learn from them and not repeat them.

However much we got from ACT will be lost by falling attendances at home and remember anything under 10k at BT means we lose money. Money we dont have.

It was simple errors and a lack of urgency. They struggled to control the ball in the mid field and seem to caught of position quite often. When the opposition heads the ball foward, our guys hold off and wait for them to control the ball, then it is too late. The lack of pressure on opposition defenses is a worry, Matty can do it on his own and with Mrdja out of the picture next year and McBreen in this should fix some of those issues.

At the start of the season we attacked teams, now we start defensive... go to attack and play positive!

The Mariners are playing at home. Against a team they have never beaten at home, even when Bluetongue was a fortress.

Roar 3-2.

Looks like I was bang on the money. We could score 5 goals against the Roar at Bluetongue but they would still find a way to win 6-5. The way the boys have been playing lately, they would struggle against the Jets W-League side! Now let's not hear any more silliness for the rest of the season about how the next home match coming up is a game we'll surely win. Aint gunna happen. Fark me, I haven't been to a Mariners win (home or away) since last Boxing Day!

Pretty soon it will come down to the coach or the players. Show loyalty to people who let you down or keep your job (not a call for change, just reality).

Our season is on the line and some very hard decisions need to be made and soon. Players seem to know that they will be back in the team after a game or 2 in yoof so some seem complacent.

The team I would pick for Sydney would be (4411)

Danny
Clarkie/Boogs Wilko Doig/Boogs Heff (deps on Doig)
Travis Hutch Panni Lewis
Wee Mac
Matty

and just tell them to go and have fun, enjoy it and break the doom and gloom

Just rewatched the game.

First to the players.

Danny - reasonable - though having got his hand to Oar's shot should have had strong enough hands to put it wide.

Porter - not a right back - as I have said before - with Zullo and Oar was always going to be a big ask. His position for the first goal was shocking, LM had been yelling for him to keep closer for five minutes before the goal. Time for a spell with the youth.

Wilko - play well in spells - but was lethargic in others. Was there something wrong with him? Could have had another goal but was cleared off the line. Poor option led to Van Dyk's goal. Had it covered until Lewis came haring back then left Lewis on him. Easy for Van Dyk to step back in and shoot with Lewis going the wrong way.

Boogs - missed a free header - not a great game - prefer him at RB.

Clarky - tried hard, ran well, tackle well but doesn't cross as well as Heff.

Pedj - reasonable game though sprinkled with errors. Would have started him at RB yestreday with Crowell at DM and Porter with the Youth.

Lewis - started slow - some blame for Van Dyk's goal, Got better and was looking dangerious when he got subbed.

Travis - worked hard - looked good. Will be disappointed in his effort on Mckay in injury time.

Wee Mac - decent game - though still not 100%.

Kwas - IMHO played very well - made far less errors than Simon  and worked harder (confirmed by the second viewing). Set up Matty's miss - strangely also set up his own miss - typical Kwas.

Simon - lucky to not get a yellow early - then went missing except for clattering into people for 25 mins. Seemed to improve for a while - all in all a poor pefrormance.

McCallister - took his goal well. Looked okay

Elrich - didn't impress - but din't do much wrong.

Referee - absolute  crap. Thirty minutes in when we had been ciontually fouled Brisbane was still without blemish.

Commentators on Fox - worse.

Crowd - worse again

Support for our players who are not the 'favoured sons' - cringeworthy. The reception that was given when Kwasnik was replaced (someone who was definitely one of our better and certainly one of the hardest working players when he was on) was just plain embarassing.

Seemed from Bay 23 that bays 6 & 7 got right into him as the subbing was announced. I doubt they are that big a fan of DMac so assume it was anti Kwas?

I am from Bay 6 - and the comments were just plain embarrassing. Especially from some who I know do know their football.  It seems to be a mob mentality at the moment and I thinked Kwas deserved a lot better than he got.

Same story in his first match - he was taken off immediately after almost scoring a cracking goal.  Unfortunately, these subs would be planned well before this.

Why the f*** you'd put Elrich on instead of him though.  I wouldn't want a fully sighted Elrich playing in a blind team...

Unfortunately we've been getting a lot of referees who have little experience at HAL level lately -  over the last few weeks most, or all, of our referees have only had a couple of HAL games (though they've gotta start somewhere).  Milliner, last night's ref, had his debut less than a month ago - I wonder what impact this is having.

Amazed none of our players were booked for dissent, some of them were blowing up quite a bit.

He was probably still having trouble with the ringing in his ears after the bollocking he received from Fergie during the week.
