Mariners vs Brisbane Roar

So the game is tomorrow and there is no thread so thought id start one.

Roar travel to Gosford in search of maintaining their gap atop the table against the Mariners.

Avoiding defeat will see Brisbane break the record for consecutive games undefeated, prolonging their run to 14 and overtaking Adelaide’s earlier streak this season.

The Mariners are winless in three, but if their clash with Gold Coast is anything to go by this could be another entertaining contest.

Having scored in their previous nine home matches, Central Coast Mariners are aiming to create a new club record for scoring in most consecutive home matches (ten).

After all the stick we give Matt Simon for not scoring I didnt realize he was only 1 goal behind the leading goal scores in the league.

Im going to stick with my predition for the last 2 weeks and say 2-0 (Amini and Bozanic) its gotta happen sometime

5-0 for me; Roar to collapse as Mariners turn first half supremacy into goals; Matt Simon hat-trick; Mustafa to get first goal; McBreen to prove he can score goals too.

I'm not feeling too confident tomorrow tbh, hope I'm wrong.

They'll be a change in team and formation.

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
hmmm....I'm thinking we'll get a couple at the very least....so 2-1 to us...crowd equal to or greater than the Fold Coast match...Amini or Olly to break their scoring cherry..other goal by, I dont care who as long as we get it

I think the boys are going to be very up for this one. I can see us taking the lead but not having the legs to hold on as per the last 2 games.

I think that having Griffiths back with the option of going 4-2-3-1 towards the end of the game with him and Hutch in front of the back 4 could be the solution to the lazy defending at the death.

I am forced to eat my words on Matty. He has scored well the last couple and his effort on goal against the scum was great. 1 off the top scorers is anything but poor form for him.

Must admit to be nervous about this one...the Roar are the only team playing as well as we are ...

Four o'clock kick off shit time ... no one wants to look into the sun all match...

Saw a weather report predicating thunder storm around match time... if this happens we need to see who pissed off the weather God and the rain god in particular ... suggest we have a cleansing ceremony to rid Bluetoung of the Crusty Demons Curse and who destroyed the pitch in the first place ... don't forget the washed out SFC match after they were here.. suggest a person in a Scum shirt maybe Con ... right a bike into a blazing fire and we offer him to the rain god as penance for allowing the CD on our hallowed turf...

Should be a cracking match. Be nice to have good weather for two home games in a row

I agree Matty is doing very well, he's scoring more consistently and that was a good calculated strike he actually knew about against NCJ, not a goalmouth scramble, rebound or tap in. Also I agree with others, does sort of feel like a few of our boys are due.

I also think we will be very up for this game and have what it takes to win. But that we need some decent refereeing and a little luck of the bounce to go in the first 25 away so we can get our rhythm and confidence up. Because Roar ALWAYS come home strong and if they're up at half time, unlikely that we can do better than a draw.

In light of all my speculation, a 4231 would not a bad opening formation though playing defensive football against a team as mobile as the roar runs a high risk. (And at home rarely makes you popular with the crowd) Mind you with Rose at LB we are also playing the best counter attacking football I have seen us play to date.

It wouldn't surprise me if Kwas had forced his way into the starting XI.
But I wouldn't mind something like...

--------- Ryan

Sainsbury, Wilko, Ducthy, Rose

------ Griffiths, Ollie

----Weemac, Amini, Lewis

----------Matty

Think it has the right amount of pace and mobility to cope with Roar and make us dangerous.

Thoughts?

I like that line-up. Pretty sure that we will play 4-2-3-1. We just got overrun by the Roar with the 4-4-2 lineup. i was thinking that Hutch would play the other DM role but much prefer the mobility and ball control of Ollie.

Playing defensively against the Roar won`t bring us 3 points.

Bringing Sainsbury in at RB & moving Wilko back to CB will give us back the balance we were missing when Wilko played wide.

I`d give Kwassie a run on up front & leave McBreen for the last 20mins.
This gives Kwassie a pat on the back & the incentive to play well.It also tells McBreen he`s not a shoe-in eack week.

I`m sure whatever Arnie decides it will be a good game & with the cooler weather today I`m hoping we break the 10k mark.

Football`s a funny game.Who would have thought (at this point last season)that Vukovic & Redmayne would be on the splinter for other clubs now?

It's not about playing defensively - its about controlling the midfield - something the Roar did to great effect against our 4-4-2 lineup. That's why we need to play 4-2-3-1. We defended very well that game but lost 2 - 0 to two great goals. The problem was we were camped in our half without the ball - which was asking for trouble. We need to win the midfield battle first and start playing in their half.

Should be a really good game, I think a 1-1 draw might be the outcome. Broich v Sainsbury might be a bit of a worry I think, but I agree that we should stick with the same back 4 from the derby.

Interesting that Pedj is out for 3 weeks, hopefully his good form continues when we get him back.
