Whats the go with having close to 10K last week and only 6K this week (top 4 clash)? With that display today I cant see more then 6K next game with sydney supporters included.

Is the coast really that fikkle to only come whrn we are winning or if its a perfect hot day?

. i think last week was kids free day or something ... that was sure to have boosted crowds

. also today's game was only recently re-scheduled to make way for golden balls. it doesn't make it easy at this time of year ... neither does the unusually early kick-off time

. we had to miss one christmas function and leave another early to be there ... most wouldn't have bothered

. but i agree the result won't do much for attendance levels next week (i have never seen so many people leave early). would hope for a bigger crowd against sydney though

We need Pedj back.
And that Argie guy, I forget what he was called  but would likely be a welcome inclusion.

As to Hutch, look, he wasn't in my preferred starting lineup for a 4231, I just feel the need to point out how unbalanced people are. It's like there always has to be at least one kid in the schoolyard we pick on - and frankly Kwassie must be dearly hoping Hutch sticks around.

Wombat, yep I agree, as were the 3 defenders chasing bak who failed to pay any attention to Nichols running into the box and those who never even bothered to track his run.

But while I STILL think Griffiths should be starting ahead of Hutch, today he was massively off the pace, out of sync and ineffective to the point where there was almost no point having him there, and the only point of me pointing that out is just to highlight how people just seem to see what they want to see. You will generally find what you focus on I've found. Just gets tiring when we are beaten all over the park and all people can say is "Bloody Hutch is shithouse!".

Without Pedj at RB we are now clearly weaker in defence, unbalanced in formation and nowhere near as threatening via the right side in attack. Look how good weemac was, but he was crying out for the ball many times but playing out through Sainsbury was obviously not a confident option - let alone getting into dangerous overlapping runs and putting crosses in. Weemc was also doing a lot of his fabulous runs closer to the half way line whereas with Pedj he was doing the same runs more often around the final third.

And now Mc Breen is out next game and Simon went off injured at half time...

So what?

Are we now looking at 4141 WIth Perez and Amini in and Kwas leading the line?

things that need to change:
1. kwassie to start more regularly- had the pace that was lacking up front, after simon looked totally uninspired in the first half.
2. rose not to push forward so much- he loses the surprise value of his attacks and leaves that wing super exposed with bozanic pushing up too.
3. sainsbury to stop playing right back- hes just not quick enough to go with guys like broich (who is a huge diver)

I thought Wilko was crap.
I never said Wilko played well. I was merely pointing out a couple of things he did that impressed me.
I also see that he publicly apologised to the fans for the poor performance....& that takes balls.

I should point out too, that I sat through 3 ACL games where we got progressively worse, todays performance was nowhere near as bad as that.

I really miss Pedj!!

But I think that when we're at full strength, with Perez, Pedj etc and everyone playing well we're not that far off the top teams. But thats not enough to win a championship because we need to have better depth to cover injuries.

We have learnt this year that
1) We have a team with great potential
2) We have extremely talented youth

Whilst I would love us to be playing the football that Brisbane are at the moment, I can accept what has happened so far and I feel a lot more positive than I did at the end of last year. Lets keep the faith (ofcourse we will) and hope we can sneak a top 4 finish.

From there, with a home final at Bluetongue anything can happen.

I totally agree with the topic of this being a rebuilding year. The number of young players we have gives us little depth, despite what people think, but that's fine by me as we look good for the future.

Tonight was simply unacceptable. I couldn't believe the space that Brisbane found to play out in, even with to two DM's. The back two were too deep and you could see what we missed in the first half was options coming out of defense. McBreen and Kwas chasing long balls and through balls down the channels at least eased the pressure and moved the team up the park. Simon couldn't do that for us in the first half.

Gotta feel sorry for Sainsbury, put up against close to the best play maker in the league and was given a lesson in all fairness but he'll have learnt from that game.

Arnie said post match that Pedj and Perez are back for the Sydney game (fingers crossed) so that's a huge boost. Wilko, we accept your apology so lets f**k up the smurfs next week.

Arnie got it wrong with his line-up but that's the first time he has stuffed up this year and as someone else has said it probably wouldn't have made much difference whichever line up we had. Rose had his worst game but that's against his excellent form this year. He was at fault with one goal where he thought he could get there for the tackle. Ange had done his homework and both Rose and Bozanic were pulled out of position by Brisbane's running off the ball; doesn't mean they played badly, just outsmarted and when Arnie changed to a flat 4 in the midfield they both improved. Thought that Griffiths and Hutch looked like they had never met each other - two holding midfielders yet Mitch Nicholls gets the freedom of Gosford? The line-up took away the momentum of our midfield, usually it rotates through Griffiths at the back and Amini at the point but with Hutch alongside Griff this couldn't happen. Griffiths has generally been good this season with the occasional poor game, this was one of the poor ones, Hutch just doesn't have the vision or the urgency to move tha ball forward quickly, he really struggled with the pace. Wilko and Zwaanswijk exposed simply because the midfield didn't work. Sainsbury needs to go to rehab after that psychologically deflating experience - I struggle to understand how a kid who has been schooled at the AIS and is a full time pro can be so exposed to the simple give-and-go - poor coaching of individual skills by all involved including Moss and Arnie. McBreen should be shot and taken to Palmdale, two yellows for mouthing off is a disgrace, and when he got clear early in the scond half all he had to do was hit the cross on the ground(as Brisbane did all game) and Kwas would have had a tap-in to bring it back to 2-3 with all the momentum that would have brought but he put it in the air - Daniel Mc No Brain. McGlinchey worked his socks off all game but Sainsbury hasn't the pace or nous to support him like Pedj and Brisbane had done their homework to nullify him, like Bozanic he really improved in the second half with the change to the line up. Mustafa is a kid, just 17, and was by passed by the game; it happens, he is still a delightful prospect and will play for Australia. Ryan, too, is a delight to watch, without his brilliance it could have been a rout (oh, shit it was!. Matt Simon battled with promise and purpose until the injury - hope he is fit because the spectre of Mrdja is lurking with McBreen out. And Kwas was immense; he's either very bad or very good and yesterday he was very good. Irrespective of who is available he would surely have forced his way into the starting line-up with recent form (we all know of course that he would then probably be crap but that's just Kwas but the sooner he gets consistent the better). Kwas should have scored at the start of the second half but didn't lift it high enough over Theo, he scored a typical brilliant individual effort, would have had another but for McBreen's poor cross, wasn't offside to set up McBreen and had another audacious volley from distance go wide. On that form he is the perfect foil to the one big man up front.
Mom 3 points Kwas - he lifted the whole team for our best spell of the game
2 points Ryan - quite outstanding at times
1 point McGlinchey and Bozanic - both had the character to fight back after being out of the game in the first half.

And fair do's to Ange Postecoglou and Brisbane - only Melbourne Victory in V.2 with Fred and Archie running riot and Kawasaki Frontale have outclassed the Mariners in such brilliant fashion. Ange has had to rebuild Brisbane, get rid of old dead trouble-making wood, cope with the loss of three of his best young players to FC Utrecht and he has done it with great effect. Brisbane were all class, great passing, great movement, intelligent and composed. He has every chance of being the next Australian coach of the Socceroos.(And wouldn't that make Craig Foster choke on his malted milk)

Not a good look Arnie apparently skulking off down the race without shaking hands with the opposition coach Ange Postecoglou. Maybe he just wanted to get to the toilet. There were plenty in the stadium who had the s**ts after that performance. The Roar coach chased after him down the race and re-appeared to be met by Moss who shook hands with Postecoglou. I hope I am wrong but the way it played out it didn't look good in regard to post match sportsmanship.

Why would Arnie take so long to replace Sainsbury when it was obvious that Sainsbury was in a fair deal of discomfort from his back injury. Sainsbury was consistently holding his back from the time he was injured.

He thought he was Beckham!!

Great post Roy law, agree with all of that.

I haven't seen GA's post match yet. But thats GREAT news about Pedj and Perez.
PEDJ back is actually more important than Perez at this point for mine.
Was a bit concerned... before but now if Pedj is in, Simon pulls up ok, and Perez is on the bench...

Its 442 FTW... and beware our rebound.

Hope the boys know that for two years we have choked in the second half of the seaosn and rival supporters are predicting the same thing for us again. Load of bullshit, tie to prove it and roll Sydney then Perth and get some payback against GCU.

The thing I don't understand is, Brisbane have played more games than us, have been playing midweek like we have and they could have played another 90 minutes straight after the full time whistle blwe on Sunday. Meanwhile, we're the walking wounded and are that tired we're out on our feet and can't go for 90. Granted Brisbane made us defend and run around like chooks with their heads cut off, but what's going on? Are we fit enough?

Awesome, awesome display by Brisbane. They are currently the best side we've ever seen in the HAL in my opinion. The reason they are doing so well is Broich, McKay, Barbarouses and Paartalu. Broich is the reason they are scoring goals for the first season ever. He's been outstanding and along with Flores, they are the best two players in the comp this season.

Quality gives you legs - they work their opponents like dogs. They are able to move the play around with the ball doing the work, but then when possession turns over they work quickly to recover it and are often successful. It all adds up to a physically easier time for them.

On another note, was amazed at the lack of away support. Last month against Brisbane, on a week night no less, there were about 20 Mariners fans at Suncorp. On Sunday there were only 3 Roar fans I saw all afternoon, the away supporters bay was empty save for a bloke in a Roar jersey and his missus. Wtf?

It wasn't his missus it was his girlfriend...the missus was chasing NAB for the Centrelink payment.
