The other positive was Sim didn't start.
I know we were caught short with injuries but come on, sim on Krishna was only ending one way. Should have swapped Sim and Neill. Burns was was busted physically so Sim was half a chance.
Sim has guts but lacks speed and quality. Time for him to go back to state league now that Neill is fit we don't need a back up LB. surely Liam rose is worth a look over Sim if need a left winger midfielder.

With our dire attacking options surely wouldn't hurt to fast track Kalick? Even if for 20 mins to see how he goes, no worse than having Kim on the bench

good call.
part if our problem is a high ratio of inexperience on the field but we've really nothing to lose currently trying out Kalik. what is he, 16/17 tho? could be physically tough on him

Thanks Roy,
I missed the game (sadly) due to other committments but it sounds like we pretty competitive.
Getting a point over the ditch this year is a good result.
Good to see Matty on the score sheet too!!

Dont get excited.
We were second best and should have lost BUT we did compete quite well.

Reddy 7. Some good saves.
Posco 5.5. One lovely covering tackle but very sloppy passing and caught out of position at least twice.
Neil 7. Decent.
Rose 8. Excellent. Held our team together. MOM.
Ando 6.. Did Ok and the diving header in front of the ball was very funny.
(Sub Sim 5. Not dreadful but just looks so uncultured. At fault on their goal)
Hutcho 5.5. one outrageous challenge sums it up for me. he also missed a sitter to put us 1 nil up but at least he was in position to score which is a big improvement.
Monty 7. Was tackling well and passing with good range before he got injured. Sub Trif 6.5..not bad.
Caceras 6. Mixed game. If he and Vernes can get on the same page they could be very effective.
Fitz 6. Another mixed game. Buzzed around but as usual final decision making is sloppy.
Vernes 7. Showed some quality and a bit of mongrel. Promising.
Simon 7.5. A real pain for the Nix. Normally defenders are cheering when they play us this season. When Matty plays...not so much. When Mossy's fog clears and we play Duke and Simon up front we will no longer be easy beats.

1pt keeps the wolf from Mossy's door but we really are pathetically negative. 2 defensive middies is good if we ever have to grind a draw against Real Madrid .......or maybe Mossy is under instruction from MC to not waste any gunpowder this year.

or we could play him in a 3 man defensive middy combo in front of the back four.........lol

Sim should be in the squad....and called upon when someone is injured. To start him is crazy and to have him on the bench in front of clearly superior players is insulting.

Yeah if leaving Simon on then why not put Bingham upfront next to him. Still looked lost but makes no sense why he went on and played wide. Don't ruin him by doing the duke thing with him. He looks very much cf or left right out.

far too obvious for our brains trust Big Al.

In spite of the Nix being the better side we could / should have won that 2 - 0. Krishna clearly controlled the ball with his upper arm and there was a clear hand ball that should have been a penalty. The NZ commentators showed a bad angle - however you could see that the way the ball was spinning differently after the arm came into contact with the ball. They said definite no penalty - the first clue that led to me looking at it closer.

im not keen on playing a boy in a struggling team .
thats how career ending injuries come about .

For those pitching Kalik and Rose - have you seen them playing in the youth team? If so, are they killing it and obviously standing out from the crowd?

Unless the answer to both of those questions is yes, let's not rush them in.

Looking at this game as well though.. I have to say, Our back four has been pretty settled the last couple of matches and I'm starting to think that, relatively speaking, it could be a masterstroke from Moss, to have swapped Rosie into CB... As we saw on the weekend, it means that we're fairly well covered off for players that can switch positions at the back and be fairly comfortable with it.

But the main thing is that we are looking a lot more settled with the starting eleven seemingly having bedded in a bit. I agree though that it was disappointing that we went out with such a defensive approach. I think we've looked fairly good of late, with Hutch playing a more offensive role (on the pitch, not in interpersonal relationships ;) )... Would have liked to have seen whether it could have converted into something interesting for this game.
But once that's said, losing Monty and Ando after the first half, is a pretty big hit, all things considered I thought we came out of it fairly well.

I am left wondering though... To my mind, as we have started looking better over the last 3-4 games, what we have been playing has not been very defensive at all. I've pointed out before that we often play with Reddy halfway to the halfway-line... I'm not sure what more people want... It is almost as if they're not actually watching the games, but recycling the same comments just in case. On that note, I feel for Hutch a bit.. Even if he's on the edge of their field, anything short of a shot on goal is deemed a defensive pass and he is branded as a negative, backwards-minded player. Sometimes going backwards is the smart thing to do.

I'm increasingly finding myself eating my words on Caceres' abilities as an attacking mid... That's a good... Nay a GREAT thing... I just thought I'd add that in :)

We definitely need a target man if we can afford one. I don't think Macca would be the greatest option though... He has fight and mongrel, yes, but he's also no spring-chicken anymore and, as I recall, most fans were scathing of him until _that_ season.
We need something new... Something local would be awesome as I think the local players work well for the team motivation and pride, but it's probably a bit much to ask ;) At this point I'd probably take just about anyone who can actually hit the target...

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
Considering what the Nux have been doing to some teams, I'll take that point very happily

I'm worried that a young striker will do what our other young strikers have been doing, and lose confidence. At this point, getting a more established goal scorer would help. Matty Simon has helped, McBreen would help. Another young player might not.

Fair enough, and I suppose this is the crux of our situation. Ideally we don't need another young striker... We have Dukey and a couple coming through.. I'm still confident that Duke'll come good... Ideally we'd get someone in their prime but the money probably isn't there I guess...

Someone like this maybe - 32 years old - http://www.transfermarkt.com/tommy-bechmann/marktwertverlauf/spieler/15243 - Same team let Berisha go, and held on to this guy, so can't be too bad and, to my knowledge, Tommy has no history of beating up on other players on, nomatter which side they play for ;)

- He seems to have the ball control at least... And he's on a free... And he's Danish, so he's bound to be a stand-up guy ;)

Without meaning to sound rude and as you have mentioned further down about your knowledge of football please stop just posting please explain comments and do your research.
Gee, I'm lost for words. But no offense taken at all. I was actually asking about A-League players and incidents similar to the Milligan one just talked about, in the A-League, so the last 10 years here in Australia. I did say that it wasn't o'seas I was asking about. Anyway, if you don't want to answer any of my questions please feel free to not read my posts, or even put me in your ignore bin. Whatever you feel best suits you.
In the meantime, thanks to those people whose collective knowledge gave me a few names to chase up. Googling with a broad question like "dirty A-League players" or something along those lines gave me absolutely zilch. So I turned to the Cognoscenti on this forum. :)
