Going from playing at Wembley in a play off to a F3 Derby.

Do they have a cannon at Wembley??

I agree with you, its absolutely not even a remote chance of happening - not just for all the reason above, but if he came on the market in Australia he would be looking to be competitive - he's a current socceroo captain, and he would have a better chance of that in at least half of the teams in this comp. Then add wages....

Villa are looking to offload Jedi because of his high wages. He is 34 and has maybe 2 seasons left, i think if he ever had any aspirations to finish his career in Australia it has to be now. I think Villa brought Jedi over from Palace to hopefully help guide them back to the EPL and were willing to pay for it. That hasn't happened and Jedi would be lucky to get half that elsewhere......
By the way, i'm not implying he is coming back. :) Is a nice dream though. Think he will finish his career in the Championship.

Aside from Hiariej, Baro & Kennedy, that seems a very low cost side and given MC said we plan to spend to the cap then hopefully that means a couple of decent signings ... eerrr well I hope so.. also we have an import spot available now ..

Is BK pricey? I wouldn't have thought he would be on much coin. Agree we must have some decent coin to spend.

MC never said we were spending the cap? That night he Skype'd into the CCLC he said we were operating at just above minimum again.

What’s worrying is I thought brama had another season on his contract ......... like Tom .......... but he is gone ????
If tom goes as well we are really down to the bones of the spoon team. :poo::poo::doh:

Nobody has said the players still listed as staying ...... it appears it is just assumed :(

I remember seeing Tom in quite a few of the local training drills with junior teams but not brama. I think he's in for the next year and maybe more. Hope.

Wouts contract was mutually terminated, he had another year. So Twente either approached him or his agent approached them and obviously decided he’s not worth a fee etc

Tom has another year. Until we’re officially notified we should expect the contracted players will be here next season.

Hoping the dead silence on Lachie means a senior contract is being signed with us.

Disappointed Wout is leaving, but it did generate 4 more pages of shit to read on here so it's not all bad.

Wout was decent but nothing special. Good solid pro but not a leader. He was the "ugly sister" of the Dutch duo. Tom on the other hand is classy.

As I posted previously, the club wanted Wout gone as he and Tommy were seen as too similar and Okon spent big on their salaries, so whilst I am disappointed at his departure, it will undoubtedly free up a fair amount of the cap spend.

MMM seemingly believes that Melling and Berry can provide adequate cover in the DM position. As much as I would love to see Olly or Rostyn back at the club, I think there are higher priorities and if MMM thought both Tommy and Wout were an unnecessary extravagance, I can’t see him simply bringing another player of that type on big money.

I see your point and it is especially valid where Rostyn is concerned. Olly on the other hand can play beside Tommy as a twin DM, he can play LM or LW as well as CAM.

I think Olly would be a great fit. I think Mulvey's first choice will be to play with a 4-3-3 like he did at Brisbane. Mulvey's Grand Final winning team in 2014 had a midfield of Brattan sitting with Miller and McKay in front of him, and two quite narrow forwards in Petratos and Broich playing off Berisha. Brisbane seemed to play with that kind of 1-2 midfield three throughout the Ange-Mulvey years, originally with Paartalu and a later Brattan as the holder, and any combination of McKay, Murdocca, Brattan, Nichols, Millers, etc. in the two more attacking roles. Melling could play that more limited holding role reasonably well, with Olly in the left-sided role that McKay played and Tom on the other side. I'd be happy with that as a balanced midfield with plenty of experience and flexibility. In-game Mulvey could switch the midfield three to a 2-1 with Olly shifting to ten and Tom dropping deeper if we don't see much of the ball and are playing on the counter, and could provide cover for Pain on the left as well.

If that is what Mulvey's planning, then we'll also see both fullbacks pushing high up the pitch and Melling dropping between the two centre halves in possession. I don't think he'd see McGing as a contender for a first choice spot at right back in that case, so McGing would presumably provide cover for Melling and we'll see a first choice right back come in. Berry would provide cover for the two more advanced positions in midfield, and possibly Wales as well if he stays, but we're still one or two players short there. I don't think we'll get a like-for-like replacement for Brama and De Silva, with the wages saved being used to target a really good right back (no idea if there are any Australians available), a striker (Le Fondre would be brilliant if that rumour has legs), and a forward for either the left or right of the front three to compete with or replace Hoole/Pain instead.

It's interesting to see that CCM are training, would have thought there'd be a holiday.....is Mulvey wanting to see what the team is capable of in training to determine his decisions?

http://www.ffsa.com.au/lui-ditroia-on-trial-at-a-league-club-central-coast-mariners/

Last Thursday, NPL young gun and Campbelltown City attacker Lui Ditroi received the news every young footballer wants to hear. Lui had been offered a one-week trail with two-time A-League Champions Central Coast Mariners.

Lui was granted permission by coaching staff and administrators at Campbelltown City to trial with the A-League club, which saw him leave on Sunday morning, returning this Saturday.

We caught up with Lui to hear his thoughts on the opportunity, along with how he felt going into the trial. “I’m feeling good going into it, I think I’ve had a pretty good first 9 games this season and I have really been trying to enjoy myself on the park rather than worry about a personal performance” he said.

Ditroia has spent the last six years at Campbelltown City, coached by former Adelaide City player Joe Mullen. His youth days however entailed a different journey, as at the age of 14, Lui and his family moved to Melbourne for 2 years. While over there, he played for Victorian Club Bulleen Lions before returning to Adelaide.

Once landing back in SA, Ditroia had a trial with SASI, but was unsuccessful and joined former top-flight club Adelaide Blue Eagles. At age 16 he was handed his debut for Blue Eagles against Croydon Kings. Then in 2012, Lui Joined Adelaide United Youth Team, which was coached by Michael Valkanis.

Central Coast Mariners have concluded their 2017/2018 season and are currently still training under newly appointed coach Mike Mulvey, who has been handed the reigns for the next two seasons. When asked how the opportunity came about, Lui said it came out of the blue, “I wasn’t expecting it at all, I had some calls over the last few weeks from staff at Central Coast. One thing led to another and they wanted me over there as soon as possible.”

The aim for Lui will ultimately be to try to gain a professional contract. With Mulvey coming in as the new coach for the 2018/2019 season, the whole team is on trial, looking to impress. The Mariners confirmed in mid-April that seven players would leave the club including the likes of Liam Rose (contract expired), Tom Glover (loan completion) and Storm Roux (early release).

Current Adelaide United goalkeeper Paul Izzo spent two years at the Mariners after he was released from United in 2015. In two seasons, the 23-year old impressed and in his last season (2016/2017) he was named Player of the Year at the club. Like Izzo, Ditroia was always hopeful that his opportunity to play professionally would come too.

Lui credits former NPL players Ryan Kitto and Nikola Mileusnic as inspirations and hope that gaining a professional contract in the A-League can happen, after they too had a similar pathway he is experiencing now. “Of course, Ryan and Nikola are always in the back of your mind. I’ve played with and against them plenty of times, they are proof that a good, hard working season can sometimes get more rewards than you think.”

Depending on how Lui performs in the week, will determine if the Mariners will offer him a professional contract. Ditroia is staying relaxed and focused saying “At the end of the day I haven’t achieved anything yet, it is only a trial so there’s no need to get ahead of myself.

I just plan to go there with a good mentality, there’s nothing to lose for me really, to work hard both on and off the ball and hopefully show something positive.”

Sounds like this guy will be signing soon. From what I have heard plays as RM, RW, CAM. If he signs it kind of confirms that Lachie has left.

Yo !! ............ hope your knowledge of mm proves accurate. Bozanic has turned into a bit of a journeyman since leaving ccm ....... not realising the potential expected by coaches and moving seems to be his modus operandii and griffiths will obviously looking for too much $ so not compatable with mc .
Could do worse than mcging at rb ........ he looked good early last season with everybody else until the great dummy spit by the team. Melling has a temper problem and can get too physical to be dependable as a starter in my opinion.

Whereas the team was building nicely under wombat’s replacement recipe ......... all of a sudden it has dissolved into a cash recovery charlesworth shitfight.

Listening to okon’s comments last night on socceroos panel and seeing the pro postecoglou mantra underpinning his comments you have to wonder if the team suffered scoring wise last season like the socceroos obviously had............

So far half the squad for next season are all coming back from serious injury with two not being retained by the club they were injured for.

I’m very disheartened and back on the fence as it appears the leopard has not changed it’s spots.

I wouldn't get disheartened yet. We still have a probable 8 signings to go and a heap of cash. I would expect to see a 5/3 spilt between first team/second team for the remaining signings. Fist choice signings to come I think will be a GK, RB, left sided AM, RW & CS. Half a team to go with a fair slice of the cap and 3 visa spots available is way to early to be disheartened.

No knowledge, just rapidly fading memories of previous seasons ;) I agree that Olly probably hasn't lived up to his full potential, but it was only four years ago that he fought his way into the World Cup squad. He wouldn't demand a starting spot in the top A-League sides, but I do think he'd be a good fit for the midfield I assume Mulvey is creating. Plus he's one of us.

McGing exceeded expectations at right back last season (though, to be fair, he set those expectations in Round One), but I think Mulvey will want a specialist there. McGing and Rowles might be good enough as cover, but assuming he sticks with a similar formula to his Brisbane team then the fullbacks will be the main attacking threat from wide. Clisby gives us a specialist left back, so I assume we'll see a first choice right back come in. I think Melling will look better in a more limited role as a holding midfielder. He's no Brama (or Paartalu or Brattan for that matter), but I think he'll do well in a defence-focused, ball-winning role so long as he has plenty of passing options when he has the ball.

I've actually been re-heartened by Mulvey's recruitment so far. I tried to ignore everything A-League related for a long time after the last game, but Mulvey's impressed me. He's repeatedly mentioned the importance of everyone moving to the Coast and building a strong culture, and the new signings all seem to have bought into that. His staff looks good and he ensured there was a meaningful job for Monty. So two of my biggest complaints from the end of last season were addressed before we even got to June. I'm satisfied with all the signings so far, and I'd expect at least a first choice striker, wide player, right back, and midfielder to come in. I can't see that we'd spend less than last season, so with the money freed up from Brama, Storm, and presumably De Silva we should be able to get some good players for those positions.
