The best coaches are always getting sacked, let's get a freshly sacked coach to turn our fortunes around

It would be a good idea to canvas the Brisbane premiership winning players ( under Mulvey) to see who was the driving force behind that team.
Seems like a underestimated coach some where.

It was Ange's team, he's not exactly underrated. The suggestion seems to be he did well with a team that could have just about run itself.

What about stealing Robbie Fowler from under Brisbane’s noses.

Apparently a top two choice for Roar and interviewed really well and had a dosier on all the players at the roar.

He is a big name and would be happy working with Phelan

Back when Bristol Rovers sacked their coach in December, Fowler was after that job too. I think he applies for every job there is going.
I was going to say he's never coached before but he has.

After their tournament exit Henrique Calisto, the clubs manager, was sacked and Fowler took over as player/coach of Muangthong United

He’s already rich so can do it cheap and would have a lot of contacts

Has only managed 1 Thai club and that was in 11/12. Will have to respectfully disagree on this one Al. I think we need an experienced tactician who has a lot of proven experience. 1 Thai club isn't enough for me to think Fowler should come in.

Seems silly, just use Monty or one of our youth managers if we have to. There's no point bringing someone in if they arent sticking around.

The delayed Appointments have repeatedly hurt us imo. Need a good choice, but they need as much time as possible.

Even coming in and winning a couple would do absolute wonders.

Kind of personality big enough to draw players, handle agents, and give us some kind of chance. Imo a ‘normal’ well qualified coach has Buckley’s of turning us around.

Need something very different I think.

Fowler is clever. Knows football like very few do. Incredibly connected. Creates a can he be the hero narrative.

Best suggestion I’ve heard so far.

If they find a solid permanent replacement and they're available, or even (hopefully) had already been working on options behind the scenes and pulled the trigger early due to the disastrous weekend then definitely get in now and working on next season's squad. But if it means settling and hurting next season or bringing in someone for a few weeks and then going again there's not much point. Best case scenario they had someone good lined up and can move quickly.

I can't help but wonder if MC has given the full cap but not soon enough resulting in some rubbish followed by some more expensive opportunistic purchases like Oar and McCormack. This time around make it all available early and build a team rather than a collection of players. That would help with getting preseason on track too. It's no coincidence that Popa got his squad settled early and hit the ground running. Complete opposite of us and it's surprising they didnt go further in the FFA cup.

Looks like Stajcic is the man (at least for 6 weeks)

Breaking: Alen Stajcic expected to take over the Mariners for the last six weeks of the season. Story up soon @australian and @aus_sport

Former Matildas coach Alen Stajcic is in line to take the reins of embattled A-League club Central Coast Mariners for the rest of the season.

The Australian understands Stajcic is expected to replace Mike Mulvey, who was sacked on Sunday morning after the Mariners suffered an embarrassing 8-2 loss at home to Wellington Phoenix.

It is believed his former assistant with the Matildas, Nahuel Arrarte, now director of football at NSW NPL club Marconi, will be his assistant at the Mariners.

Stajcic was dumped by Football Federation Australia in January over allegations of a toxic environment with the Matildas.

He had taken them to number six in the world and was in line to take them to the World Cup in France in June until FFA moved. He was subsequently replaced by Ante Milicic.

Stajcic had been involved in women’s football for 20 years and this is his first senior job in men’s football.

He will take over for the next six weeks but faces a tough task turning the club around.
