Possibly an unpopular opinion but 2 defensive players doesn’t make too much sense to me. If we’re playing a back 3 there’s no way Aspro is benched so if we’re recruiting starting 11 quality it means we are bumping Rowles to the bench. I think with an experienced mentor beside him he will get even better and be consistently good.

When he recovers we’ll have Mcging on the bench who has put in a decent showing this season and again will benefit from playing with an experienced player in the middle. Depth is great but I can’t help but think that’s a bit much. Likely means Clisby has played his last game for us too unless MM wants to put him on as a wingback if Pain is out or deployed elsewhere.

Now if defensive means a keeper I’m all for it.

Signed in Asia hasnt he? Id say Glassock and no one
Yep he’s confirmed for an overseas club. Wouldn’t be surprised if we’re promoting like you’ve guessed.

Edit - if we are promoting it would make some sense - get a new player up to speed to hit the ground running next season.

I don’t think he is a dud, just too old and slow for HAL when we got him. From the start he seemed to be a mentor type of person. I’m ok with him staying to help the Academy.
Yes, this for mine. Has good experience and does know the game.

What he did was wrong. But he was in a badly wounded/struggling side, pinged for a bullshit yellow moments before and then was sent off...and I think along with the frustration of that was likely confronting the harsh reality that his playing days at this level were gone.

Still wrong. But not hard to see how even the most experienced player might snap. Wout also comes to mind...

Not unpopular with me. Totally agree.

Cisse retirement confirmed, will work with Youth:

The Central Coast Mariners can today confirm that Kalifa Cissé has accepted an off-field role within the Mariners Academy after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

Cissé will bestow his wealth of knowledge upon the young players of the Mariners Academy as the Club’s new Youth Ambassador and Community Development Officer, which he will commence immediately.

After being officially de-registered as a Central Coast Mariners’ player, the former English Premier League midfielder will coach the Central Coast Mariners Academy under 15’s team during their upcoming NPL season.

The 35-year-old, who has been suffering with Achilles Tendinopathy, has made the collaborative decision with the club to step aside as a player and allow the club’s young defenders to earn more game time in the Hyundai A-League.

“Working with young players is something I’ve always wanted to do, so this is an exciting opportunity for me,” Cissé said. “Not only do I want to use my experience to help the young players within the academy, I also want to learn from the coaches who have experience within the Mariners Academy.

“The Mariners are lucky to have some great young defenders coming through. Originally, I signed here to help the players on the field, but at 35 I have made the difficult decision to step out as a player, I do not want to stand in the way of these good young players – so for me this is a good decision and will provide these young players with more opportunities to play.

“I’ve been battling the injury since about a month after the season started. For my age, it’s a very complicated thing to fight, so it’s time for me to step aside and let a younger player who is 100% fit to step in and give it their all,” Cissé said.

So that press release is definitely hinting at another youth boy being promoted, probably glassock. Happy with that if that’s the case.
But it makes you think, did Mulvey miss his targets?

Let’s wait and see if there’s an experienced player there to mentor and lead the guys we have. If we had an experienced player leading the backs, probably as MM hoped Cisse would, it could help the two backs we’re playing while improving our backup options too. Bringing up a youth player now could be smart succession planning too if the reported situation with Rowles agent being a dick is true.

Is glassock left or right footed?

We made plays for Berisha, Ibini, Donachie and Duke, so I suspect you are right

The new signing wasn’t just promoting players from youth?

If it was those few then surely that bridge was burnt long ago and there was no point in dragging us along with the comments at the ade game!
