Oh dear. Thats worse than I thought. Not turning our fortunes around with Herd and Ryall.

Re visa spot CB’s...
Huth and Samba are almost 35 so too old,
Younes has just turned 33... still pushing it we need a player we can lock in for at least two years to help build something. And he’s French. ;)

Tasci at 31 could work well though - if he’s fit and a decent human being etc.
Yeah obviously depends on your criteria.

I’ve never read a post that ‘pissed’ on him.

I’ve watched every one of his HAL games and NYL before that and he showed a lot of promise early, then first HAL season I thought he would break out. But after that he regressed. I was hoping it might just be the coaching and under Okon he’d come good. But he didn’t. It’s a very hard time for young players to buckle down and fulfill their potential. But he’s well down the pecking order of A league DM’s right now imo. And I want only top players in now to build around.

I think he got very little game time in Armenia too and has obviously been let go.

If we could blend Melling’s physicality and Liam’s technique, we’d have a class player.
Harsh to say he regressed under Walmsley and the Okon imo FP, as the lad was never really played in his best position. He will never be physical enough to play as a CB or DM but his vision, touch and awareness would make him well suited to the 10 role, something we sorely lack right now. With the right coaching environment, he undoubtedly has the talent to be a very good player. I for one was very disappointed that the club let him go.

Mmm, will have to agree to disagree on that one OH. There’s always been talent there. Not convinced he has the mentality though to capitalise it. I watched him go missing in a large number of games. That’s on him and no one else. And while I think he’s good technically, for mine he’s not good enough to be a HAL level ten.

I'd prefer Liam as a backup 10 to Hoole as a backup or starting 10. As a utility player he makes an ideal bench player. Unfortunately I can't see him having the quality to own a CB, DM, CM or CAM spot. That said - we have players in those positions at the moment and for the most they do not have the quality to own there positions with very few exceptions

Alright, I won't rinse

Hoole has had a stints at the Jets, a stint with Arnie at Sydney, who fcuked him off straight back to the Scum for his 2nd stint with them & then they punted him down the freeway to us.

He's 25yo and I ain't seeing ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING from him THIS YEAR to warrant another deal to be offered, let alone what he offered LAST YEAR that enabled him to stay.
..... to say that 'Liam Rose ISN'T up to A-League standard.... after thinking about Hoole as a player 'in general' is imho fcuking deplorable'

Junior is ONLY 21yo ffs !

He WON the Mariners Medal in 2015/16 as an18yo .... NOT the 'Mariners Youth Player' of the year Award .. BUT the actual BEST Mariners Player Award for that year.

And Jnr actually deserved it, unlike Kennedy last year (for those that may wish to highlight the point of a shithouse player like him winning it)

Kennedy was only awarded it because they couldnt well give it to Hiariej who WAS our best, despite being missing for a considerable time with injury. Coupled with the glaring fact they were hoping to push poor Tom out the backdoor !
..... "we can't give it to him after we've told him to fcuk off can we ??"

Hiariej/Brama were the Midfield equal standouts of the league - alongside O'Neil/Brillante, thus resulting in Liam having to bide quite a bit of time on the bench last season &/or playing out of position. This imo knocked his confidence a bit, (Liam is actually a pretty quiet type of guy) and ultimately he did not play as well when given the chance at DM during Hiariej's injuries and Brama's suspensions. He was in the final year of his Mariners contract & maybe the pressure to perform got the better of him, I'm not quite sure really why his performances dropped ???

I think he also thought Okon would be more understanding of a 20yo kid - given that he was his Coach just previously at the Olyroos where Okon had given him the armband.

When Okon signed Melling, because DaSilva got injured refused to play, I'm sure his confidence tumbled even further, once Okon started playing Melling.

As for those that say he was laughing & high 5'ing Jets players after the loss in the last game ....that's Bull Shit, I and others in Bay16 hung around and was witness to who was & wasn't.

Ive been reliably told that the REAL reason Jnr wasn't re-signed was because Monty bad mouthed him to newly appointed Mulvey, plain and simple. Mulvey based his decision on Monty's opinion.

Maybe Monty is still pissed an 18yo up & coming DM kid ... beat him out to win a Mariners Medal

This IS Football, shit like that happens every day, in every club, at every level ALL AROUND THE WORLD.

The reason Liam didn't succeed over in Armenia is the Coach who signed him was sacked and then x3 more took his place.
- another 'same shit scenario' the world over.

In fact,

In 5 years time I know which player ? I'm more likely to see playing in the A-League ............ & it AIN'T Andrew Hoole !

When we first signed Hoole, I heard of some Scum supporters calling him a "pre-season hero". I think we've seen the truth of that. I do remember Hoole's performances against us the season before we got him, and I wasn't impressed.

I also have a feeling I will be underwhelmed.

I’m trying to stay positive and hope MC recognises the seriousness of the situation we’re in and accepts we’ll need to spend to get out of it. There will be plenty of time to be negative after we are disappointed yet again.

With 5 games in the rest of Jan and some of our better chances to get a win we really need our new recruit(s) in to the squad and making a difference ASAP.

I'd like to assume that negotiations for new recruits has been underway for a few weeks and we will see announcements this week.

Getting signatures in mid to late January is not good enough. The current squad hasn't bonded yet, so bringing in new players will take longer still, especially if they aren't match fit.

The only reason you’d do that is if they’re multi year deals for players any coach will want (short of a miraculous turn around MM is gone). For that to make sense you’d need a big and solid signing like a Fornaroli, Jamie Young/Lawrence Thomas level keeper or Jedinak. Odds of us getting that type of signing seem low but that’s the only way I see a late Jan signing making sense, if it’s an opportunity to lock a great player in for next year or longer as well.

Yeah we're only gonna get blokes to the end of the season unless we pay bulk overs. Might nab Jedi on loan till then but.

I’m not sure if the lack of transfer chatter is ominous or if things are just staying under wraps but it’s not helping my Monday and first day back at work.
