Mariners Squad - HAL 14 - 2018- 2019 - The challenge for Mike Mulvey is over

I was thinking about McGlinchey yesterday and thought he wouldn't come back as there was a lot of bad feelings over the way he left us.

We spoke to him in Wellington after the Mariners’s game and he said he really missed the Coast. He said that the team under Arnold was the high;ight of his football career. Josh and Eggy were there as well.

I got the impression that he would be open to come back.

Asians players are born to be wingers....fast and skillful. If TBT wants to become the new DSSF. Dumb Sydney Squad filler...let him go.

Please Trent dont insult our intelligence with the Okon clause.

I have a soft spot for McGlinchey and would be excited to have him back, despite his age.
In fairness to him too - it wasn't the club or fans he wanted away from but from the Moss (come Walmsley/Okon) era he wanted no part of. In hindsight...smart move.

TBT can go suck it then and go live the life of Mitch Austin if he likes, a Pacey squad filler with next to no first team game time in a team of players much stronger than him.

DDS I kind of get. If he feels some strong loyalty to Okon and his leaving leaves a bad taste in his mouth then fair enough...well, kind of...it is the world of professional football after all and not 'what indoor team do all my friends play in'.

Trent's move is all selfishness.

Weemac is welcome to come home, no prodigal son is turned away (needs to be a son of the right age/skill, prodigal cousins can get f**ked).

weeMac stabbed us in the back big time and we got dragged thought the courts which we won...

Both his leaving and refusing to return left us in a bad position...

We saved his career at the time of his first signing...

So from me its a no ... his age and struggling for a starting spot at the Nux also does not inspire...

These 'if the coach goes, I go' clauses just strike me as really bloody immature. Like, grow the f*** up. It's the professional game. Positions are vacated and filled all the time.
I honestly can't see what the player gains from such a clause.
Trent wasn't bad, but I don't think of him as one of our core 'must keep' players.
And given Mulvey wants people to be really invested, if Budgie wanted to go for whatever ridiculous reason, then go. Would rather that than have our time wasted with somebody who doesn't want to be here.
And if he's going to turn his back on the club after everything we've done for him in youth development, just because the coach is gone?
Then piss off. We don't need that attitude.
He's showing very clearly that he doesn't have the character for our club moving forwards.

Golec is a must for me, so I'm real happy to see that and, while I think Pain has work to do, I'll be happy enough to see him stay, especially if again, it gives us some money to invest in some quality elsewhere.

Even more-so because I'm figuring it shows them as actually being interested in staying, which is a plus at this point.
For me, we only have one 'must' player, and that's Tom H.
Not even Golec counts as a must. He has improved our defence a lot....but he's also prone to laziness and daydreaming at critical moments which I've found extremely frustrating. Baro and Brama, no different.
Golec is one of my preferred players and I think overall he has been a benefit. But if he has to do 100 pushups everytime he gets caught watching the seagulls during a game it might just tighten up his only real weakness.
Pain I still don't mind.
But it also depends what Mulvey thinks he can get out of them. If most of our players struggled with consistency, then that comes down to coaching and captaincy. Pain had good games and struggled with consistency. So did Hoole. Does mulvey think he can get the consistency?

These were the player rules for this season, but I think it has changed for next season with one less foreign player?
So I think they will need to sign 3 players 20 yrs or younger as I think all the current young ones would be or be turning 21 this year.
At all times during the Season, a Club’s Hyundai A-League Player Roster must have:

  • a minimum of 20 Players;
  • a maximum of 23 Players;
  • a minimum of 2 Goalkeepers;
  • a minimum of 3 Australian Players aged 20 or under;
  • and a maximum of five foreign players.
Guest Players, Designated Players and Mature Age Rookie Players sit outside the Club’s Hyundai A-League Player Roster. Players on a Club’s Foxtel Y-League Player Roster, including Scholarship Players, are also eligible to participate in the Hyundai A-League.
Just checked Rowles would be there only player 20 or under so 2 more will need to be signed. Pearce I thought was only on a 12 month contract so would expire at the end of May I would assume.

Melling is a good pick up - most mongrel in the middle since Monty retired.

This. He’s made some mistakes since he came - but Okon ball put him and every other player under constant unnecessary pressure. And he was one more player that started well then looked worse week after week under Okon. Only McGing seemed to have clearly improved, but then that reverted also. .

Can’t agree on Baro. If I had to pick a best player he gets it because Tom has been out quite a lot. Baro has been a rock in a terrible side playing mostly poor football. IMO his concentration rarely lapses. Calm, strong and a smart player. I think he’s been terrific for us

To close the chapter on last season I need to focus on next season. Last night showed the challenge that Mike Mulvey will face for next season. The saving grace for him is that he has at least 14 spaces to fill (with at least one of the below players rumoured to be moving on elsewhere). We have 1 GK, 1 CB, 1 RBs, 3 CM, 1 CAM, 1 Winger and 1 CS/Winger. Good luck Mike!!

Sydney FC are on the verge of signing Trent Buhagiar after the much-vaunted Central Coast Mariners youngster opted to exploit an unusual loophole in his contract, allowing him to depart the club a year early.

Yeah he went off to Japan on loan with Arnie.
When that didn't work out he decided he would go and play in NZ.
Mike Charlesworth had taken over at the Mariners and from what I recall the players signed new contracts.
McGlinchy tried to say his contract was null and void as he was on an old contract and hadn't signed a new one.
In the end he had to pay out the remaining year of his contract so he could leave us.
That's how I remember it, and that's why I thought there would be bad feeling between chairman and player.
