From what I understand Melling and Golec are renewing their contracts with the club and Pain very close.

Don't know specifics around their contracts.

FWIW I'm OK with that... I don't think Melling was a disaster as a #6, he had a couple of decent enough games, so on the assumption that our Dutchmen are staying put according to their contracts, I think we could do worse than re-signing Melling at #6, especially on an assumption that he wouldn't be the most expensive DM to have on the bench.
Golec is a must for me, so I'm real happy to see that and, while I think Pain has work to do, I'll be happy enough to see him stay, especially if again, it gives us some money to invest in some quality elsewhere.

Even more-so because I'm figuring it shows them as actually being interested in staying, which is a plus at this point.

All due respect to TBT ( and I'm not sure how much that is with this sort of move ) but this seems a bit keen by SBS I reckon:

"Buhagiar, one of the Mariners' few shining lights in an awful season for the Gosford-based club, has made a major impression across the league with his pace and work rate." - He's been decent, but it's setting the bar low for shining lights, even in our squad.

I think this is where we are.

Keepers .... Kennedy , Pearce

Backs, McGing, Baro, Golez, Rowles

Mids... Berry, Wout, Hiarirj, Melling

Wide mids / Forwards ... Hoole, Pain.

Rumours Trent to SFC... DDS anywhere but us...

Meaning 12 certain players with 2 players not sure...

I think you need 23 players in your squad so between 9 & 11 new players depending on the Trent & DDS rumours..

For what it is worth, I think Melling can be molded into an above average A-League player. He has some of the skills needed to be a defensive midfield already and he was quite good in his first year with City. He just needs some coaching and to know when to play a simple ball.

Happy with this news. Thanks MM.

Re Trent. Local is good, but otherwise he’s not a big loss for us as we need to rebuild off stronger more consistent shoulders than his are right now. We need fighters. Which he is not. And as a winger he has a way to go yet.

Sad to lose TBT, has some terrific qualities and real potential. But what he has offered us in previous seasons is fairly easily replaced, Elvis Kambosa or Stefan Zinni would make a good replacement.

Summed up well - but it is a shame if true. The symbolism of a local junior going through the ranks, being a fan, attending the IFS, playing in the Academy and then making the squad is a strong symbol of a pathway for local juniors. If Mike Mulvey is keen to show a community culture then that would have been a strong symbol. If it is true and he does want to go then he doesn't fit MM's idea of the culture of the squad he wants and in that regard so be it.

Dds reminds me of the jets kantarovski. Rated the next best thing when 17 -18 .............. didn’t fulfill his potential. Now mid 20’s and starting to play his best.

Kantarovski knocked back Bayern or someone ridiculous to stay at the jest.... Probs why he's done nothing with his career

Don't know why he's going to SFC now. Arnold is leaving. Could all turn to puss there real quick.

If DDS does move on, why not replace him with McGlinchey, as he is available?

I would still like to see MM bring in better (read stronger) wingers particularly a genuinely left-footed left winger, as you can’t overstate the benefit of balance in any football team. The same goes for CB’s Baro and Golec compliment each other by by naturally right and.left-footed.

I was thinking about McGlinchey yesterday and thought he wouldn't come back as there was a lot of bad feelings over the way he left us.

WeeMac was a very good player. But he dogged us when he left....BUT he also showed alot of class refusing to celebrate when scoring against us.
DDS is a far better option for mine but WeeMac does have some quality but he is long in the tooth.

These were the player rules for this season, but I think it has changed for next season with one less foreign player?
So I think they will need to sign 3 players 20 yrs or younger as I think all the current young ones would be or be turning 21 this year.
At all times during the Season, a Club’s Hyundai A-League Player Roster must have:

  • a minimum of 20 Players;
  • a maximum of 23 Players;
  • a minimum of 2 Goalkeepers;
  • a minimum of 3 Australian Players aged 20 or under;
  • and a maximum of five foreign players.
Guest Players, Designated Players and Mature Age Rookie Players sit outside the Club’s Hyundai A-League Player Roster. Players on a Club’s Foxtel Y-League Player Roster, including Scholarship Players, are also eligible to participate in the Hyundai A-League.

Foreigners are still 5 but in a 4 + 1 asian player ratio.
