Have to say I personally agree wholeheartedly with the above post. The A League is now good enough to serve young Australian players with a sound apprenticeship in the professional game but all too often, those same players think they have done their time after one or two seasons. Some will be good enough to go onto better things (like Rogic for instance) but they will be the exceptions in truth.

My own professional apprenticeship was for four years and there were no short cuts, so perhaps this is something these kids might do well to bear in mind. They should also think themselves lucky they don't have to still clean the senior players' boots, like they did back in the good old days!
agreed Oz, Id also like to add player managers to the mix for young guys pulling the pin early and heading OS, the mutts are talking their clients into getting a larger percentage for them , ready or not

Took a little longer than I thought it might've but was worth it, wonderful seeing people take the bait!
making a guy named Mark Key Spanish was a ballsy move, I don't think id have had the guts to pull that off, id have pussied out and gone for a plausible nationality for that name like English. It makes the prank even more delicious

He's actually the cousin of former Rochdale, Dundee, and Histon goalkeeper Lance Key, as well as former Exeter City and Cambridge United goalkeeper Richard Key.
English father, Spanish mother, born in Gibraltar.

Could not find the weki link can you post the wiki link.... Spanish indeed...

Unfortunately, the link was removed as apparently it violated Wikipedia's guidelines. Can't imagine how.
Here's a quick insight though (i've still got the full text for anyone who actually wants it:piralaugh:)

BREAKING: Josh Rose returns to the Central Coast Mariners

Monday, 3 July 2017 -
@CCMariners
The Central Coast Mariners are excited to announce the return of Championship winning defender, Josh Rose who has been added to the Yellow & Navy’s Hyundai A-League 2017/18 squad.
Rose arrived on the Central Coast in 2010, where he managed 160 Hyundai A-League appearances with the Mariners. After spending the 2016/17 season with Melbourne City, Josh Rose has today completed his medical at the Central Coast Mariners Centre of Excellence and put pen-to-paper on a one-year-contract.

A firm fan favourite on the Central Coast, ‘Rosey’ won the hearts of Mariners fans thanks to his famous overlapping runs, versatility on the pitch and unwavering efforts in the community during his six seasons on the Central Coast.

The 2010/11 Mariners Medalist knows what it means to be a Mariner, having been involved with the heartbreaking 2010/11 Grand Final but most importantly the club’s maiden Hyundai A-League Championship in 2013.

The pacey defender adds further experience to Okon’s defensive stocks alongside the likes of Alan Baro and Antony Golec and expressed his excitement to rejoin the Mariners family.

"I’m extremely happy to be back on the Central Coast, and very grateful to be given the opportunity to wear the Mariners jersey again," Rose said. "I can’t wait to get back out there in front of the supporters, family & friends again. This club means a lot to me, it’s given a lot to me in the past and I feel like I’ve still got a lot to give back to the club.

"I think there is a lot of very good talent in those young boys in the club at the moment, and I'm looking forward to working with them on the field and off the field to try and help develop their game to the best they can. I’m sure with Paolo in charge, they definitely have a massive future ahead of them,” Rose said.

Head Coach Paul Okon is confident that the return of Rose will play a major role both on and off the pitch as a mentor to the younger players in his squad.

"We are of course very happy to bring Josh home,” Okon said. “Josh has a big role to play at the club both on and off the field – his experience will be a big asset to the club, especially with so many new faces coming in.

‘Rosey’ will be jumping straight back into the community space coaching at the Mighty Mariners Football Clinics starting Wednesday this week. The clinics will be three action-packed days of football fun, held at Central Coast Stadium for boys and girls aged 5-12.

"I’ve got three sons myself and I know what it means to them when people they look up to give them their time,” Rose said. “For me to come back and do that in the community is something that I look forward to doing, I enjoy doing it and I can’t wait to get out there,” Rose said.

Ok, so we got Rosey back (officially now) but the recruitment is still a worry.
It was previously stated that PO wanted his squad settled before pre-season training started.
However, we are still (officially) without a 10, until DDS is landed & there is no recognised goal scorer (unless you think Bingers is going to hit double figures) which I doubt.
We need another keeper, another centre back wouldn`t go astray & another striker as a back-up for the one we don`t already have would help.
There is still a long way to go until the start of the season but the plan was to have it all sorted by now.

Yeh agree, that comment from Shaun a while back saying "the best is yet to come" feels like an eternity ago now...

We have 18 players signed including Ashcrot, not including De Silva..

We have between 4 & 6 players to go...

I still have faith we will sign a decent side to field..

Happy to have Josh back, but if this is the BIG signing Shaun was promoting, it's a worry. The words 'used car salesman' come to mind. If this is the final squad we are significantly weaker than last year IMHO.

A long time and still plenty of cap space you would think. I wonder whether the rest are sourced from overseas and we have had to wait for the transfer window. Cerio could have been signed but Cisak, Gallifuoco, Burns and probably De Silva might have been contracted until 30/6 (plus many others as well). We may also try to get the Jets Chinese target Ma Qi.

I also think we may have also signed or almost signed (but not announced) some. NBN said the other day that Okon was looking for two more players.

This is, however, the hand-picked 'Okon Squad'. So it will be interesting to see if Paulo has got the formula right. Nowhere to hide.
