Interesting.
If so, then contrary to expectations our visa spot won't be our number 10. What does that mean?
Rose..may be be playing LB next season, though I'd rather seem him upfield a bit. Not solid in defence, though he'd be the speed we lack in the back line.

Rose was always on the cards. His family are still on the coast - this is his home now. He didn't leave with any ill will. As long as we don't overspend on him I think he is a decent reliable pick up. Just don't play him as a CB. TBH, he could be a good mentor to both Pain and Hoole to cover more of the left side positions.

I'm still not giving up on a foreign #10. De Silva probably isn't the complete answer yet.

Josh Rose on minimum wage or slightly higher is a good signing. He did much better than I expected with Melbourne City and improved as the season went on. There is a dearth of Australian left back talent in the A-League we could do far, far worse.

All good points, and given we're adding some leadership to the back line it could really shore up Rose's defensive capabilities.
Rose is certainly capable of attacking from the back too - which seems to align with our other signings.

If anyone needs reminding what De Silva is capable of...

He has all the raw skills, and these will continue to improve with experience and expert mentoring. But what really impresses me is his vision at such a young age. I'm hoping that the rumour (that he's coming our way) is true.

What is most impressive is his passing. Intelligent and well weighted passes....lovely to see.

If we do get him then a decent length contract and a high release clause with sell-on stipulations would be ideal. I don't want to get someone that is potentially very good just to sell them, unless it is worth it for the club.

Is he under contract to Perth and would need a release?

I realise Glory have Castro, but why would they let him go? He seems to have a lot of potential?

Can you see him coming off the bench as a 10 behind a marquee 10?

Nah, pretty sure his contract just finished with Perth.

He was sold by PGFC to AS Roma three seasons ago and was loaned back to Perth for the 2015-16 season but for some reason the Roma deal went south and he ended up joining Roda JC in Holland. He is now a free agent, with his contract with the Dutch outfit having expired

PO hinted as this deal at the fan forum earlier in the year, so I think it has a solid basis and am hopeful it will fall into place. You can be sure Perth will be in his ear too though.

I'm not sure that even Paolo knows how we will end up. I'm sure he has a number of irons in the fire. DDS may be our new 10 with Hoole and Powell as his back up. Shaun talked about another potentially foreign DM and CB as well as another striker.

So maybe we are looking at

--------------- New GK ------------

Roux-----new Foreign CB-----Baro----New LB (possibly Rose)

--------Hiariej------new Foreign DM----

------------New #10 (possibly De Silva) -----------

Appiah---------New CS-----------Pain

We shipped 70 goals the season before last and 52 last season and scored 2 goals less last season. I think Paolo is looking at making us a lot harder to score against and giving us different routes to goal.

Has Paolo ever actually played Hoole at 10? I think Da Silva, Kalik and Clut were the players who he chose in his Young Socceroos teams. I think it's unlikely Paolo would want Hoole there after his experience with Fabio last year. I could be completely and utterly wrong about this but I hope Paolo would bring in a back up 10.

Once Paulo realised that the Powell to #10 experiment that Wamsley had set up was a failure, Powell got essentially no game time. By the back end of the year he wasn't even named on the bench, with Bingham getting game time over him.

I doubt he is in any plan for first team football, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him 'released by mutual agreement' prior to the season starting.

I have heard that - but not sure whether it is true.

Let me clarify that I haven't heard it either, it just wouldn't surprise me given that he was effectively left out of the squad without injury for the back half of the year. I don't believe he once played as striker with us did he?

Not sure thats what happened, there was a lot of talk about him not actually being sold but was on loan. Not sure if that was with Roma or Roda.
Which may have been the issue with getting him in January.

Either way pretty sure he is free agent now and must be struggling to get a good gig overseas

Not that I can remember. He can also play at RW but Paolo preferred Bingers there as well so he definitely seems to be on the outer.

Just re-read the announcement and uses the word ability
And Paulo says have seen 1st hand his ability to play inside the pocket and out wide.

So probably not played there but training etc.

I think Paulo will add that to Hoole similar to Fab.

He did wear #10 at Newy I think, does that count :p
