With Stefan Mauk keen on leaving NEC. Is there any chance he comes to the Mariners?
No there was an article on World game or 442 that said he almost left in January to head to the championship I think it was.
It said he was one of the most talented players but the coach didn't like his defensive effort.

If he moving it will be to stay in Europe IMO

And welcome

Yeah that's true.

Yeah that makes sense. Thought I read somewhere in January that Paolo was keen on him.

And thank you!

Yeah he definitely was, if I remember correctly Paolo said he wanted him on loan at the fan forum. He seems to be pretty keen to stick it out in Europe though so I don't think we're any chance sadly.

The A League club academies become more important in player development as a result.

Also re Mauk, in the 442 article it says
Mauk, who also had a spell at Melbourne City, said returning to the A-League was a viable option too, although he preferred to stay in Europe.
“It’s definitely a possibility, especially coming over here and seeing the standard,” Mauk said.

He acknowledged the Championship, where several Australians ply their trade nowadays, was an enticing option as he weighs up his future.

“There was a loan move and a permanent move in the UK in January,” Mauk said. “It just didn’t get through in the last few days.

“It was another challenge to get through, when I was excited for a new thing and to find out on the last day it wasn’t going through, it’s disappointing but it’s part of football.”

442 in May

As per Luca link he does say A League is an option but feels more like a fall back if can't get 1st team football anywhere else. Also relegation at his club could either open up playing time or force him out.

Would be very handy here but I think he should be overseas

If he has any decent options in Europe I don't think it would be a good move for him personally to move back, and if he did move back I think we would be outbid fairly quickly, Victory seem to be struggling to keep Troisi so if he goes they would definitely be after him with Adelaide (his home town) having plenty of free space as well.

SST reporting on twitter that we're close to signing Da Silva from Perth to play as our #10... And Josh Rose (return of Rose the elder!)
While Rose has lost a yard of pace. I'm happy he is back.

As for Da Silva, very excited about the potential. Still only 20yrs old. If we sign him let's hope we get the best out of him. Australian attacking midfielders are very hard to come by. Keeps our visa spots free.

Excited about Da Silva, here's hoping we can get him back on track.

Rose shows the lack of LB's around. Not a fan of this one myself. I'd prefer Mickey Neill over him

Also still waiting on the UK keeper to come through so we will see how good SST info is

Yep, taking SST with a very large grain of salt at the moment. If we do sign Rose again I'd like to think it would be on a smaller wage than previously.

Rose Should be minimum wage. Would be a slightly desperate signing. Could do the job for 1 season but a backwards step from Galloway.
DeSilva has some merit but is an unproven kid in a key spot.

Reports on Da Silva, are not good reading, could have left to early and struggled or could have lost it .... risky in some ways to rely on a 20 yo who has experienced tough times... either the buy of the season or massive mistake ... hhhhhhmmmmm would have a back up ready ...

Agree, but a couple of years ago in the youth Socceroos he was the next big thing and a gun in one of the world cups.
Obviously there have been many wonder kids who fail at senior level
But this is the quality we want if going to have youth.

I don't think he was all that great at Perth but was very young and they didn't play him as a #10 enough.

Definitely worth the punt but yes there is a high risk.

Hoole will be his back up.

Meets the comments about only using 4 foreigners and Shaun saying we could use them at Striker, AM or DM.

If get Da Silva would allow us to go Striker and DM

And if a cheap overseas keeper is available we could go with that if desperate.

Defenders could be:
Roux
Baro
Golec
Rose Senior
With Rose Jnr and Ashcroft as backup or swap Rose Jnr in for Golec or Golec in for Rose Senior
Some depth and versatility

Mid's would be
New foreign DM
Tom
Da Silva
With Berry and McGing as backups and Rose Jnr an option as well as Hoole

Attack would be
Pain
Foreign Striker
Appiah
With Hoole Trent Bingham as backup

So would need
2 * GK
Foreign DM
Foreign Striker

Would give us 18 I think and could go some youth team or Neill and Adelson as back up RB and LB which would be needed

If we went with Da Silva as our number 10 I think it could be very good move though getting someone like Marcos Flores in as back up and competition would be good. Wouldn't mind Nikas competing with Da Silva for the starting spot as well.
