Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

I have no real knowledge of players salaries - the figures quoted are an educated guess and I may be horribly wrong.

With probably close to $1.5m to spend to the cap and the possibility of a marquee, the quality to come in will be higher than most of what we have been used to. I assume we will sign Neill and Adelson as squaddies for not a lot (as LB and RB cover) to take us to 17 players and a backup keeper to 18 with 5 players to sign

That would probably leave us with the best part of $1.2m to spend on those 5 players. Assuming a marquee is number 19 (not promised but hinted at) then Okon will have an average of $300,000 to spend on players 20-23. ( A keeper won't cost that much but that will only up the average for the other spots).

Given those figures, players 19-23 plus Baro plus Tommy plus Scott's replacement would likely be first choice players. If that is the case only 3 of last years players are likely to feature in the first XI. There is no doubt about it - this is a massive rebuild.

100%. It's exactly what everyone was calling for.

What are the thoughts on us moving to 3 at the back?

It's in vogue at the moment especially with Ange moving in that direction with the Socceroos.

We could have the new CB in the pipes Baro and Golec on the left of the 3.

This would involve Storm having to move further forward.

This would mean we could keep Neill as a backup and also gives us flexibility to play a back four if we want.

Could then have Rose and Tom as two DM's.

The teams I have coached for the past 8-9 years play with 3 at the back and we make finals every year. If you have the right personnel to play the formation, it can be very effective.

Hi Risk Football,
You need to be a dominant team.
need your back 3 to be dominant compact ball playing defenders

heh I play 3 at the back on FIFA but then I'm controlling the players and they dominate from the front. I love the idea if we got the right squad together.

that's probably unlikely though and I wouldn't see Okon going for it

Okon comes from the Socceroos ranks so not out of the question given Ange has started using it. Will be interesting and will depend on the other players we sign. We are scared probably because we conceded 150 plus goals over the last 3 seasons.

Yeah, I think given our recent poor defensive record, we need to solidify at the back - not take risks. And Paul might be looking at the sort of tactics that build from the back.
Also, I don't know that we have enough speed in the back line to deal with zippy strikers without the extra depth that a 4 person back line brings

We push quite high already with either Storm or Galloway.

Need to see who the next CB is to see if that suits us but Paulo wants us to play possession football and be physically fitter to play more aggressive. Defend from the front and loading the midfield is a form of defence.
