"In Paulo we trust".
Seems like Paulo sees him as an unpolished diamond and reckons he can turn him into something special. And maybe that's the case - possibly hasn't had the right coaching/team so far.

Another cheap signing presumably.

Yeah, he kept trying, but we've never really had a lack of players who do that. It's doing something useful with all that red cordial which we've lacked.
I think there's still more exciting signings to come.
Not having time to watch much sport I really only watched our games, so maybe he showed brilliance in other once - but I know even the Jets fans didn't like him at all.
Hope to be proven wrong, of course.
From your comment, scottmac, about the kid having talent - made me think; we've always done an awesome job at youth development, best in the league in my biased opinion (COE and our NPL sides really perpetuate this as a strategy of ours). I would say that maintaining this is a challenge for Okon - but he clearly has the youth experience behind him there, so no concerns.
Like i said the guy scored twice as many as any of our midfielders except for Fabio who he matched. If this isn't 'doing something with it' on a mariners level then i dont know what is.
Jets fans didn't like anything about last season. Their support has disbanded they collapsed in a heap and the team started sniping at each other. Why would they have anything positive to say about someone who was visually wanting out of the mess. FTS.

Looks to me like we have a lot left in the cap and therefore should be able to attract another two and maybe three very decent players.

It looks to me like we have a squad that will have a very attacking external 5 with very quick players and an internal 5 dm cd n a 10 will be more to ball playing.
Add a decent left back and an attacking midfielder and a reasonable striker and this is looking a very strong squad.

We seem not to be wasting money. My guess we still have lots of space left in the cap and knowing the squad the right new players can be brougth in.

I'm liking the way things are efficiently been done. And also the fact we are locking in players prior to pre-season. So far all players have their merits and the squad is been strengthened. If we can snag a good keeper and a quality 10, then we will be looking in business.

Its been really interesting watching what is effectively 2/3rds of a new team being assembled. As observed by many the 3 gaping holes are keeper, left back and a 10. The icing on the cake would be a 9 => Roy (lets be honest, a cake without icing is really just a muffin)

We have both the squad and the cap space to have the 10 as the most expensive player on the pitch... a Castro/ Ninkovic level guy wouldn't go astray ;)

my guess at a 433 starting 11 would be...

------------------------------ Keeper ----------------------------
Roux ------------- Baro -------------- Golec -------------- LB
-------------------------------Hiariej------------------------------
-----------------------------------------*Rose--------------------
------------------------- No10 ------------------------------------
Toole ----------------------- Striker --------------------- Pain

*for mine, skill wise he suites a box to box CM roll (i.e. not quite a specialist AM or DM) but he would need a LOT more engine

Budgie, Berry and Bingers have potential, Powell, Apiah, Mcging and Ashcroft are decent cover

Would LOVE a Spanish 9 and 10 combo, for an entire Spanish speaking spine!

If he is on more than minimum for me this is mistake, he has undoubted dribbling skills far more than any NPL player could offer us but he leaps at the chance to leave at every opportunity look at when he we
left mid way through a season to join Sydney. He thinks he's better than the league and if Trent/Appiah continue with their development he will quickly be out of the side and then how will he react? He could be a very good signing for us but at the same time he could be poison to our team morale. I trust in Paolo to manage him correctly but if he doesn't he could have a very negative effect on our season.

I`m pretty keen on seeing Hoole in action for us.
He was outstanding in his first stint at Newcastle & really showed his talent.
I was hoping we would sign him then but he went to Sydney.
I think under Okon he`ll really shine.

For what it`s worth, I was just reading Hoole`s Wiki page & under the current Mariner`s squad it has KENNEDY.
Did I miss the announcement?

Another two year signing as well, I like the fact that it looks like Okon is not just trying to do well next year with no future thought to the signings. He seems confident or the club seems confident he might be at CCM for another year at least which would be good providing this team he is building performs to the hype its building over the coming season. No doubt a bit more pressure than last season.

Good signing. Scum's most dangerous player. Acts like a cock but he is from Newcastle so 50% chance that he is a cock. Who cares if he delivers.

Last time we had a player who thought he was too good for the league his name was Nicky Travis and he was a dbag. I hope Hoole isn't the same.

Just went to Nicky Travis' wiki Page for old times sake... someone must be taking the piss, there is no way he played 68 games for us and scored 12 goals... right?

Well Hoole isn't Kennedy so that's a plus. If we were going to get a scummer he is the one to get.
Definitely talented player but just gets stage fright in front of goal.

Yes he scored those 5 goals but those were his first goals in 50 games but Appiah was similar and both seemed to get a little confidence from finally scoring and bagged another.

Provides good flexibility to be a fab style player as a backup #10 or winger.

That should be the end of the Cirio talk.

Trent was poor in the second half of the year and would be the 4th winger in my eyes. Has a lot of work to do to compete with Pain, Hoole and Appiah

A confident Trent shits on Appiah and Cartman went backwards as the season went on. We have some depth!!!
Travis was a cock but was a good player. He shone above many of his peers but i couldnt believe his disrepect to Brad Porter (who was shit) that game.

Appiah really improved and was getting the starts over Trent who really went backwards, Trents effort was a major problem late in the season. Maybe just tired but seemed more than that.
Pain certainly plateaued after a strong start
But they both had better seasons than Trent.

We do have some depth but who is the game winner out of them, he guy who can dominate the game, take it by the scruff of the next type stuff? They all can for a game but none do it consistently

The AM and striker to go with them will be key

3 foreign spots left

Striker and AM would be ideal but who would be your 3rd

Another dominate Mid or a back
