North Queensland Fury fans would've loved the opportunity to collect another spoon. Get some perspective.

I remember when we didn't concede 4 goals every game.

Yeah... weekend before last was pretty alright ;-)

In all seriousness though - you're all acting like it has to be either or. I'd like to think that we can remain somewhat competitive in the longer term without having to break the bank.

My reading of the tea leafs is we have a lot to look forward too ... sadly not this year..

MC said we would have two years of pain the first extreme pain, i.e. last year.

Hand on heart not the other thing, I can at most see 7 or 8 current players next season..

Roy, Pain, Fab, Trent, Straw [for Dibo i.e.Berry], Passco, Trave, Rose, maybe Monty if he is up for another season...

Next year the new media deal will kick in and if the rumour I have heard is correct we will be signing better players... consider also the number of player across the league coming off contract and maybe some overseas returning home...

As a matter of interest take the above 8 or so players and add 3 to 4 top quality players around them and we would give it a serious shake.

The league has also changed considerably when I look at MC, MV, SFC & WSW squads and I could add PG and the Roar TBH ... I see quality and by and large decent coaches...

Last year and certainly this year to date the standard of the matches has been of a FTA commercial broadcasting standard which IMO it was not before.

I enjoy watching and MC just looks scary ... should be a good year..

Out of interest those wanting to look at updates on ratings and crowds a great site is http://www.footyindustry.com tis run by an AFL sports nutter but he does an excellent job for those interested in such things.

I rated what I've seen of Galloway. Good young prospect. This is good news I think.

Who was it who wrote that cobblers article about Victory being the only team that gives youth a chance. Laughable.

Straw [for Dibo i.e.Berry
The explanation isn't just for me - it's for everyone else who reads your random made up names and wonders who the hell you're talking about this time.

Even the ones that people know are problematic if they can't be worked out by someone who's brand new to the site - they'll just see what seems to be a bunch of random rubbish in-jokes and they'll browse on elsewhere.

In an open group, if you need to explain a nickname, it's a bad nickname.

Hmmm.....always good to say.......we used to be a good team you know.

I remember when we didn't concede 4 goals every game.

Don't laugh son......BUT they used to call CCM a fortress.
So your long range forecast is no success ever again? lol

Central Coast have reportedly signed Melbourne Victory defender Scott Galloway

Paul Okon is expected to have made his first signing as head coach of the Central Coast Mariners, capturing former Melbourne Victory defender Scott Galloway.

Galloway has been at the Victory since leaving the Australian Institute of Sport in 2013, but has found it difficult to break into the starting line-up under Kevin Muscat, making just 11 appearances in the A-League last season. The club released him yesterday in order to join the Mariners before the Australian transfer window closed at midnight.

Despite this, the Perth-born defender has an impressive CV, having played 54 times in the A-League and playing for both the Young Socceroos and Olyroos.

The 21-year-old joins a Mariners defence that has already conceded seven goals in the opening two rounds of this season, after conceding a record 70 goals in the previous campaign.

Kevin Muscat praised the efforts of the youngster and wished him all the best for the next step in his career.

“I would like to thank Scott for his contribution to Melbourne Victory over the last four years,” said Victory head coach Kevin Muscat.

“Throughout his time at the club he has conducted himself in a professional manner on and off the pitch, and he was an important part of the success Victory has achieved in recent years. We wish him all the best for the future.”

Good signing if true, which I would be surprised if it isn't. We will have to be patient but I do think we are building a squad with some talented kids, and are heading in the right direction.

So signing a 21year old player that had failed miserably is good because? Just what we need another youngster, I was concerned Okon would come in and start signing his olyroos that could not beat time. Here we go!

Okon knows Galloway and what he can do. Okon coached the Young Socceroos by the way. Galloway also has had European clubs chasing him previously. Connor Pain, Andrew Nabbout and James Jeggo all didn't get game time at Victory and look at them now!

Some people are guaranteed to find the cloud in every silver lining.

Galloway is 21, and he's been behind Jason Geria in the pecking order - Geria's a little older and has been developing quickly, but that's denied Galloway the chance to play. If he was stuck behind Marc Warren, then I'd be worried.

I'm also much happier to sign youngsters with potential to develop than journeymen with great futures behind them and no development potential.

Hasn't failed miserably. Hasn't had a chance. Silly post coach. He has quality - MV gets their pick of the crop - they only released him because the kid wants to play, I think he's a good signing for us - your point re experience is fair enough - but he is better than Neil imo. So is a step forward.

Probably because Okon thought he had limited chances with the squad he was with & has the potential to improve his game with us.
If he proves better than what we have & hasn`t cost too many $$$ then to me its ok.
Plus he can now hold hands with Pain again...
