Paul Okon the coach of the week for the A-League website. Roy in their team of the week as well.

The wording was: "Manager of the round: Paul Okon (Central Coast Mariners) - Just edged out Arnie. Both changed their games at half time but Okon was able to find solutions to a 3-0 deficit against one of the league’s strongest teams, resulting in an inspiring 3-3 comeback. Welcome to the A-League, Paulo!"

They forgot to mention it was an away game, and on a shoe-string squad he has only had for a few weeks, as well.

Arnie didn't need to do much. Sydney ought to have been 3 up at half time.

Coming back from 3-0 and being ruthless enough to hook a high profile recruit is infinitely more impressive

A question for those that watch NYL and NPL2 matches. Has Trent played at RB at all? I saw him play there for a very short period in pre-season but I wonder if he has any real defensive experience.

Every time I saw him play he was mostly played at central striker and sometimes as winger.

Trent has always been up top or on the rare occasion on the wing for the NPL side.

Peterson on the other hand has played at 10 or there abouts for the NPL side but as we know came on at RB for Storm on Saturday. As far as I know the only other time he's played at RB was against the Jets in Tamworth, so considering that I thought he held his own and did what he had to do.

Peterson did ok when he came on. It is very worrying that our cover is a complete novice in that position.

Central Coast Captain Nick Montgomery says the Mariners have the right mixture of youth and experience to push for an A-League finals spot this season.

The Mariners were the surprise story of the opening round of the A-League after coming back from a seemingly impossible 3-0 deficit to earn a memorable 3-3 draw against Perth Glory away from home.

The stunning second half fightback by Central Coast could ignite their campaign after many had written off their season as early as half-time.

Even with the positive round one result achieved in Perth, Montgomery still believed the Gosford side were capable of a finals finish.

"No one expects anything from us,” said Montgomery to FourFourTwo. “So we are putting pressure on ourselves to really go out this season and show how much we improved.

"Realistically every season you've got to aim for the top six and we are no different to any other team in the league and we’ll be aiming for that.

“This year we have brought in (Mickael) Tavares and (Jaques) Faty from Sydney who are obviously experienced players, Connor Pain from Victory, and Blake Powell who has been in the A-League before. So we’ve just added a bit more experience, we’ve still got a young squad so for me we are in a better place than last year.”

After focusing on developing young players in the previous seasons, Montgomery said the Mariners have the right mixt this campaign.

“Last year we didn’t have the right balance, we had 95% young kids and 5% experience which is not enough”, he said.

“We are not fortunate to have all the funds that a lot of these teams have got and have used very well over the offseason which is great for the A-League.

"We don’t have that luxury, but what we’ve got is young boys that have got some experience from last year and know what it takes to be a professional.

“There is no doubt we’ve got belief within the squad now and the management that if we do what is asked of us then we can compete with any team in the A-League.”

Watching the replay I did notice him in that last part of the game - a few lapses but every time he was beaten he was chasing it up and preventing a further leak in defence. 6+ months ago that wasn't the attitude within the squad (fringe player or not). It was great to see.

He is an outstanding prospect. I also recall people bagging Sainsbury in his first season too.

Needs game time and he will be fine

3rd on the table , Coach of the week...player in the team of the week...and we got almost 35 secs on various football news shows...the world has gone absolutely mental

Enjoy it while you can - if we lose to Sydney, even if it's a closely contested game, we'll be back to being the worst who really shouldn't be anywhere near the A-league when there are "teams with the interest and history of a South Melbourne, simply chomping at the bid to throw money at the league and who will REALLY appreciate their spot".
On the upside, it also means that it'd be fun to listen to the gearbox crackling when they frantically try to throw it in reverse, if we were to actually beat Sydney....
