Central Coast Mariners playing right notes with Okon:
Legendary Australia player Paul Okon is the man at the helm at Central coast stadium this season and he is ready to give it a fair shake of the sauce bottle to get the Gosford based team back to the top.
There has been little to smile about at Central Coast Stadium the past two A-League seasons with the Mariners going from title holders in 2013-2014 to taking out the wooden spoon last time around.
Tony Walmsley was the second coach in two years get the chop and it will now be Okon's turn to revitalise the struggling club.
The former Socceroos great has pledged an Ange Postecoglou-inspired philosophy and will be out to get the most from what is a largely inexperienced side.
The addition of savvy veterans of Jacques Faty, Michael Tavares and Ivan Necevski will help balance the squad.
Okon's biggest challenge could very well be fixing a leaky defence which conceded 70 goals in 27 games last season.
Roy O'Donovan is back to lead the line this season while Fabio Ferierra will be one the Mariner's most dangerous threats in the front third.
Not much is expected of Central Coast this season but if Okon can get his team of young gun's marching to the beat of his drum then anything can happen.
Coach: Paul Okon
Captain: Nick Montgomery
Last season: 10th
Marquees: None
Ins: Mickael Tavares, Jacques Faty, Ivan Necevski (all Sydney FC), Kwabena Appiah (Wellington).
Outs: Joshua Rose (Melbourne City), Mitch Austin (Melbourne Victory), Luis Garcia, Daniel Heffernan (both released)
Coach says: "There's no mandate from (owner) Mike Charlesworth. It's try and win football games. For us it's just about being better than yesterday, and this season must be better than last season."
Star man Roy O'Donovan says: "It's a lot more positive with the new manager coming in. The style of play we're trying to play I think will work a treat."
Expert View: The entertainer Tony Walmsley is gone, and his replacement Paul Okon has been tasked with restoring pride and a winning mentality in Gosford. Challenging? Certainly. But the only way is up after the club's first wooden spoon. Former Young Socceroos coach Okon is well-versed in mentoring young players and has a few more experienced faces to help him in Jacques Faty, Mickael Tavares and skipper Nick Montgomery.
Predicted finish: 10th
