I think coach is spot on that," Okon is on trial."
PO wants to succeed, his reputation is on the line.PO has to succeed!

In his first A League season there is a certain amount of expectation being placed on him.
Pundits will say "great player, but that doesn`t mean he`ll be a great coach" & rightly so.

So, he`s now in a situation where he needs the players, as much as the players need him.
If he can earn their respect, they`ll do anything for him.
If he doesn`t, they`ll be able to walk at the end of the season regardless.

Thus, Monty becomes a very, very important person within the structure.
He`s the current captain, the most senior player, the longest serving player, he has the most appearances for us, he`s the most recognised player, he`s the most respected player by his peers & is the most experienced player.

Given the fact that Hutch is gone he is also the one that carries the most influence in the change room.
For Okon to dismiss all that would be coaching suicide.
IMO he needs to harness that & work closely with Monty to ensure that the team works hard together.
Monty is a ultimate professional. He`s respected throughout the completion as a fierce competitor.
He`s loyal & hard working. & as someone else said," he bleeds yellow".

If that isn`t recognized by PO then I think he`s doomed to fail.
That`s not what he wants, it`s not what the club wants & it`s not what we want.

Much as I'd like Ollie back - what are we gonna do with him?
He was a great player, but people seem to forget that he had some remarkably average games as our #10 - he was always better at CDM... We've had a bit of a history with that sort of thing - look at Caceres - which makes me worry for Rose Jr too...

Anyways - it'd still be good to have him back... The closest we've actually come to a full-blown coastie product, bar Matty S... Be surprised if we could afford him though.

He played on the wing.

Both our older dms are 1yr contracts. Could be Montys last. We need a captain and cdm if that happens. Couldn't think of a better fit.

He played on the wing.

Diamond 442

So a left mid or you could argue a left centre mid

Brilliant formation when done right (like we did), especially with talented overlapping fullbacks...

Olly is a bad winger in a conventional formation, but is well suited to the diamond midfield

Somebody's ??? been fcuking with Ollie's Wiki page page:

"Bozanic was born in Sydney, New South Wales. He is the son of former Socceroo Vic Bozanic.[4] He played football for Sydney Olympic FC at the age of 12 with famous bib shitter Dicky bum bum."

EDIT: OK - majority seems to imply that my memory is even more shot than I thought... I could've sworn we tried him on the wing a number of times, with poor results, but maybe it's in my head - wouldn't be the first time ;)

Let's not get ahead of ourselves or this season, but yes .... at 27, Ollie's heading towards a good age bracket to pick up an armband - and as a local Coastie could easily carry-on Hutch/Monty's good work in continuing that legacy laid down in regard to our Club 'culture'.

Don't forget, he has leadershop experience Captaining the Olyroo's.

He has def. evolved his game from the Defensive/&or Left midfield position into playing centrally AS WELL as attacking, bang'n in the goals the moment he arrived in the Switzerland.

Continuing that attacking position at Melb.Victory and alternating back deeper at times when needed., I think will make him an even better DM in the future on knowing from his attacking roles where & when to play balls to his fellow teammates in the front third.

See how Ollie goes this season at Victory, if he fails to pick up decent game time & Monty decides/or is given a nudge then I'm sure Bozanic would be a positive signing, ticking multiple boxes:
• local born
• former Championship Mariner
• OS experience in England & Switzerland
• Socceroo
• played games at 2014 World Cup in Brazil
• DM, AM, LM & Left footed to boot!
• & as said potential Captain, with some longevity which I think is pertinent.

✔ 'ticks' galore.
..... all depends if Okon rates him ??
.... I do !

Olly played on the left side of the diamond (when we played it) and at LW in the 4231.

The main thing in his play on the left was that he played really narrow to be like a second 10 whilst allowing Rose a channel to run into. He'd also tuck in and cover at DM and allow us to slide the defence around when we got hit on the break.

In 12/13 he missed a lot of games though, through a concussion and a shoulder injury (can't remember what order they came).

He played an absolute stormer for us at DM in the GF in 2013 when Monty was suspended though.

I've had people connected with other clubs say to me that that might have been the difference - at that time at least he was a better user of the ball than Monty and that game wasn't about blood and thunder, it was about unpicking the only defence in the league better than ours.

Oh f**k-Off Arnie ...... NO ! !
- You DON'T live here anymore, so stop coming in via the back door and helping yourself to what's in the pantry!!

Will the Rose grow elsewhere ? :

The Central Coast Mariners have a long history of identifying, developing and then selling Australian players to European clubs.

Current Socceroos such as Matt Ryan, Trent Sainsbury and Tom Rogic have been accompanied out the door by Mitchell Duke, Bernie Ibini, Oliver Bouzanic, Mustafa Amini and Matt Simon.

A couple of Graham Arnold's last signings as Mariners coach were Anthony Kalik and Liam Rose, who were both signed to professional National Youth League contracts. Kalik, who couldn't get a game in last season's woeful Mariners side is now a regular squad player with Croatian giants Hajduk Split.

Young Socceroo Rose meanwhile is off contract at season's end, and Melbourne City and Sydney FC are eyeing a move for him. The Mariners have offered new and improved terms, but Rose and his management team are not rushing in to anything, with new and greener pastures a real temptation.

If this is the scenario with Junior, then after the U19 AFF Championships in Vietnam are completed he needs to be sat down and made to understand that if he doesn't sign a new deal with CCM ..... we're gonna shop you around overseas to the highest bidder, dont care what league it is - rather then let you play out this year and then leave to rivals in Syd or Melb on FCUK'N FREE !!!
uh-uh, nah !

We've given him opportunities, like starting spot's last season cameos the season before that and CCM need to be repaid for that investment.

We just cant afford to let players leave on free-transfers.

It's fcuked-up that we even paid money to Josh Rose to go to Melb.City .... when he was the one who wanted to leave a year early on his contract, we should of said
"jog on Josh w/ $0.00 to play and earn more dollars at City or sit on the bench for the final year of your career'
.... your choice ??

Selling Junior 'off' for $500k, or even cheaper $250/150/100k is better than $0.00 , throw in a '$ell on %' clause stipulated in his contract (like Maty Ryan did & Tom Rogic has currently) is a waaaay better outcome than letting him go on a fcuk'n free to Syd or City.

I'd even stipulate if he's released & 'not sold on' (because were then not getting that % selk-on fee) from his new overseas club because it didn't work out for either party then his final year deal with us reverts back to 'as it stands now', to be paid the same wage for the final year, then he's free to go.

In effect similar to a loan deal but for whatever time period they agree to 'sign' him for.

He would be crazy to leave us and go sideways to another A-League club. If he has a stellar year he should be heading to Europe to push for Socceroos selection or if he desires cash China. If he has the same type of year as last year all that will happen in moving to Sydney FC or Melbourne City is that he will stall his development sit on the bench and get pulled away by youth teams while a foreigner or older squad player takes his spot. Until he finally gets released goes to a club building their side and lives up to his potential. See Terry Antonis, Dani De Silva, Stefan Mauk, Jesse Makarounas, Devante Clut as examples.

Which is why he should 'commit' to us & solidfy the spot he's been given & earned.

You make an excellent point with all of those players mentioned, sitting or sliding sideways to other clubs, worse still bouncing back (Antonis was wanting out & back to Syd) from a pre-emptive move OS all because they lacked the development early on, which is what Junior IS getting NOW with 'us'.

Whilst that would certainly be in our best interests Liam Rose still needs to agree to this proposed sale to the highest bidder...

If he refuses, we must honour his contract...

We can bench him...and that's it.

We need a smarter approach instead of threats

A modest buyout clause
Allow him to go on trials?
Remind him of the value of consistent game time
Etc.

The question is whether he will be a starting XI player for us, or will he be confined to time off the bench or injury replacement? Let's face it, most of us on this forum wouldn't have him start ahead of Monty/Tavares at 6/8, or Pain on the left.

If he is not getting consistent game time with us he may feel he is no worse off at another A League club...

I have to admit I wasn't a fan of him at the start of last year, but he changed my mind. He is young, has fabulous ball control, and enormous potential, and I agree with everyone else that it would be crime to lose him as a free transfer. Our best chance is to get him plenty of game time.

I think that was Tony Walmsley's thinking when using Monty at centre back. Possibly be our number 10? He has the attributes bar his goal scoring ability you would have to wonder if he was forward minded enough as well.

We're not going to drop Monty at this point, so he's locked in, and I can't see us not playing someone of Rose's quality.

So I'd absolutely start him - at the CM role alongside Monty, in the old Hutch role - control the ball, restart the play. This is where I'm kinda thinking that I don't really get why we have Tavares, unless he can play CB?
