Naumoff really only had that single 'wonder goal' in the FFA Cup to credit his CV, we really need an AM who can not only create BUT also contribute to the goal column as well.

I'd pass.

On Wednesday night I had a quick discussion with Shaun over the squad and he indicated Fab and Monty won't likely be Aussie Citizens until January meaning we can only sign a foreigner(s) from the January transfer Window onwards.
I got the impression we would likely be signing one of the 2 trialists and he had very positive things to say about Kwabena despite my concerns about him not having scored in the A-league yet.
On the #10 front, Shaun indicated we were in discussions with an Australian #10 but he was still contracted and needed a release from his current club before anything further could be agreed....

We were linked with Keayrn Baccus previously. That sounds suspiciously like him...

Think you could be right.....I can't think of who else it could be. Rumour of Brosque going to the Wanderers so he would be even further down the pecking order. Good player but another with unrealized potential so far.

They signed a Uruguayan in his position as well so I doubt he will be getting much game time apart from maybe a couple of bit parts in the ACL.

NEWS: Faty & Tavares link up with Mariners’ teammates

Jacques Faty & Mickael Tavares training at the Centre of Excellence
Friday, 1 July 2016 -
@CCMariners
Despite a social media meltdown that linked Nicolas Anelka to a Mariners’ training session, it was actually Mickael Tavares along with his cousin Jacques Faty who completed their first full run on the Coast.
When asked about the case of mistaken identity after training, Mickael was hardly surprised and responded “Everybody, even in France tells me that I look like him so I have to start to believe it’s true,” Tavares said.

Aside from the laughter, it was business as usual at the Central Coast Mariners Centre of Excellence today with both Faty & Tavares adding to the intensity of pre-season training.

The French born Senegalese internationals arrived on the Coast earlier this week and surprised Mariners’ Members by arriving at a Members only function at the Florida Beach Bar on Wednesday night. Today, the experienced pairing were on hand to finish their first full training session on the Central Coast.

Speaking with local media after training, Faty said that he would do most of his talking on the pitch this season.

“I don’t want to talk too much on the camera, I will do my talking on the pitch,” Faty said. “So far I’m very impressed with what that Mariners have created here, it’s incredible and I’m happy to be here and meet my team mates.

“I’ve played in leagues in France and Turkey, I have experience so my job here is to lead the young players and of course help the team do better than last season.

“Last season the team was young, that’s why I’m here with ‘Mikey’ and for sure this season will be much better.

Tavares appreciated the welcoming environment on the Central Coast and spoke about his goals for the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 season.

“It’s been very good, you can already feel here that the atmosphere is very positive so I am very happy to be here,” Tavares said. “Even after our first training session you can see that there is a lot of quality so I am excited to start this season.

“Everyone here is more friendly, it feels like a family but for me football is the same everywhere you go so nothing changes.

“I came here with the objective to make the play-off first of all, we are going to work hard for it so then we will see what comes next.

“I think I will have a bit more freedom on the park here, I came here to perform as well and I am very confident heading into a new season, Tavares said.

Walmsley and Mariners focus on basics not marquees
The Mariners didn’t just finish last of the 10 teams, they were a long last with a points total of 13 - which was 12 behind ninth-placed Wellington Phoenix.

Speaking at the FFA Cup draw on Thursday, Walmsley said he believed Central Coast were in good shape now that pre-season training had begun and commercially it didn’t suit the club to add a big-money signing at this stage.

“After the season we had, we need to make sure we get the basics right and build from the ground up,” Walmsley said. “We’ve formed our core squad and we think it’s going to be competitive and for the Mariners at this moment it really is about commercial viability.

“It’s a challenge to be commercially viable in the A-League as it stands at the moment, so, although we’re investing more in the playing group, to get a marquee or guest player for the full season is probably a stretch too far.

Mariners coach Walmsley put on notice as owner Charlesworth demands success
After famously placing entertainment ahead of results last season, Central Coast Mariners owner Mike Charlesworth has put coach Tony Walmsley on notice that further failure will not be tolerated.

“If we get to January and the commercial situation is good, there might be an opportunity to bring someone in who can really lift the club towards the success we’re all aiming for, but we’ll have to wait and see.

“If the team is flying high and doing really well we wouldn’t want to upset the apple cart, but it depends who’s available.

“There are so many positives and negatives that can be played out and you would have to do a full squad analysis to identify whether the people who are available are the right fit and are going to add value, or detract from what you’re doing.

“That’s why it’s very high risk to bring someone in right now, because commercially it’s much harder on the Central Coast to make a marquee work.”

Walmsley plans to sign seasoned players for struggling Mariners
Burdened with the club's first A-League wooden spoon, Central Coast Mariners coach Tony Walmsley has pledged to inject his young squad with more experienced players who can lead on the pitch next season.

The full season guest player option, on top of the existing two marquee players already allowed for each club outside of the salary cap, has been introduced by Football Federation Australia to try to increase the A-League’s star power.

If a proposed guest player fits FFA’s criteria in terms of his potential to increase overall interest in the competition, FFA will be prepared to assist the club by subsidising the player’s payments.

“If we’re in a good place approaching January, which we’re expecting to be, and commercially a marquee or guest player works for the back end of the season, then it’s something I’m sure (owner) Mike Charlesworth will entertain,” Walmsley said.

Walmsley said the ideal scenario for Central Coast in the meantime would be for rival clubs to sign guest players and the Mariners cash in through increased crowds at home games when the added stars come to town.

Dodd doesn't regard Mariners as 'losers' after Victory player swap deal
Former Australia midfielder Travis Dodd said while he would prefer the services of Mitch Austin ahead of Connor Pain, he doesn’t regard Central Coast Mariners as “losers” in the player swap deal with Melbourne Victory.

“We’d much rather all the other clubs have a fantastically huge marquee and get him to play at Central Coast Stadium,” he said.

“That way, commercially our club grows and over a period of time we would then build enough of our own base to be able to generate the extra capital that would allow us to be able to move down that path for ourselves.”

Walmsley said he was looking to add two more players to his squad in coming weeks.

“We’ve filled our visa spots,” he said. “We’ll probably fill two more spots with Australian talent – hopefully with some A-League experience.”

Mariners will be away to Victorian NPL 1 side Green Gully in the FFA Cup round of 32. Dates are yet to be finalised, but the action will begin in the last week of July.

Fabio has been here since February 2012 so he should be eligible now. Monty should be eligible in September. It needs to be pushed. What is the use of having TW and PS scouting overseas. or for that matter 'arry if we can't sign anyone. If we cannot afford an Australian #10 the obvious area to tap into is Everton youngsters - but that seems to being blocked now because of inertia.

Isn't there talk of going back to 4 and an Asian after this season?

We can forget much happening which goes into the whole Jan marquee talk. Might be more government related or not encouraged until now.

They probably researching more Austins Fletchers etc

All in all we have pretty solid foreigners but no exceptional talent.

I would say Roy is exceptional and in a top side I think he would have scored twenty.

The Joeys are heading over to Cambodia for the AFF Cup in the next week or so. We need someone there to start talking to and making connections with these boys. The past two seasons we have barely won any current youth internationals signatures if we are to be a selling club (like we supposedly need to be) we have to sign some of these guys.

Well, after TW's comments regarding a 'no-go' for a CCM Marquee, dispelling any chance of bagging Holman (or anyone of quality for that matter) to be our new #10, it seems the following article should be a wake up call to Charlesworth (come January supposedly) that the FFA wont be assisting clubs by shelling out for just any'ol'body:

FFA refuse to subsidise Holman's A-League move:

gettyimages-102345171.jpg

The prospect of a homecoming for former Australia star Brett Holman has taken a hit, with Football Federation Australia refusing to dip into his newly-launched marquee fund to help Brisbane Roar finance his signing.

The ruling body is instead preparing to use much, if not all, of the multi-million dollar kitty – which will rise to $10 million after the signing of the new A-League TV rights deal – to help cash-rich Melbourne City sign Australia veteran Tim Cahill.

City are the only A-League club to have shown genuine interest in snaring Cahill, 36, despite him being offered to each of them, while Holman, who retired from international football with 63 caps ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup – has attracted interest from a number of clubs, with Brisbane the keenest of all.

However, with the Roar in the midst of being sold off by the Bakrie Group to a consortium led by Melbourne businessman Daniel Cobb - its new managing director - funds are tight and it's understood the FFA was approached to top up the offer to Holman by around $300,000, only to be soundly rebuffed.

Meanwhile, it’s been mooted that FFA is so keen to attract Cahill back to boost TV ratings and the competition's branding ahead of negations for the new rights deal, that they asked Sydney FC not once, but twice, whether they would sign him, with a little help from the fund. That request fell on deaf ears..

Head Office now appears poised use a chunk of the cash to help City lure Cahill – even though it is by far the best financed team in the competition under the ownership of the City Football Group.

Holman, 32, and still a potent performer after completing his most recent stint with UAE-based Emirates Club – where he scored six goals in 23 games – wants to return home after nearly 15 years aboard – but only of the deal is lucrative enough.

His agent, Sydney-based Paddy Dominguez, confirmed: “There has been plenty of interest in Brett, both here and also in Holland, where he has at least one offer in the Eredivisie.

“His preference is the A-League but it has to be the right sort of offer. I hope that clubs realise they can get an Eredivisie standard player for a decent price.”

Dominquez would not be drawn on which other A-league clubs are hunting Holman, but its known that Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory are on his trail as the former Sydneysider eyes a homecoming.

Holman, who spent nearly a decade in the Netherlands with Feyenoord, NEC and AZ Alkmaar, is currently on holiday with his Dutch wife and two children in Europe, as he weighs up his future..

Really FFA? Good to know the marquee fund just exists to make the rich, richer.

Unless Brisbane (new owners - not the Billionaire Bakries anymore), Syd or Victory have the 'stand-alone' cash for Holman, he may find if it's the Ca$h he's truly after then staying at The Emirates in the UAE will be more appealing to his $uper-fund.
