At what point through the season did TW think Tavares would be a great acquisition for the Mariners's, if Arnie couldn't get the best out of him what makes TW think he can this I've gota see.

JUST BRING YOUR BOOTS WE'LL GIVE YOU A RUN.
Tavares and Faty will both be excellent signings for us. They are both tough, skillful players that can play the ball out of the back and hold possession well. With those 2 we will be way more competitive. If we can get 3 more signings (GK, CB, AM)of their standard we should be back to finals football next season.

Tavares in particular has been very impressive at times. Faty is the one I'm less sold on, but still likely an improvement on what we've got.

Mariners poised to land Tavares from Sydney FC

Central Coast Mariners expect to complete the signing of Sydney FC midfielder Mickael Tavares today – as soon as the Sky Blues ratify an agreed mutual termination of his contract.

The club were hoping to conduct a medical on Tavares, who will join fellow Sky Blues exile and cousin Jacques Faty in Gosford next season, but are still awaiting confirmation of his release from the final year of his Sydney FC contract.

However, the Mariners remain confident that once the red tape is cut the deal will progress unhindered and the Senegalese midfielder will sign a one-year deal for the 2016-2017 season.

Tavares, 33, is part of Sydney FC's AFC Asian Cup squad but dropped down the A-League pecking order under coach Graham Arnold and was not in his plans for next season.

He racked up 22 appearances this season but failed to feature for the past three games and his exit from Moore Park was anticipated.

With his combative qualities and experience, Tavares is viewed by Walmsley as a torchbearer for a youthful squad which was brutally exposed this season in slumping to the wooden spoon.

with a starting lineup that includes tavares and monty in midfield and a front line of Austin, Roy 'o, Ferriera, we could be very successful with a tactial switch back to a mid/deep defensive block and lighting counter- attacking

I know we've spoken of it before but add wilko and Holman to this and that's exciting even without a new gk.

Good to see us picking up some more experienced players. Without being overly sycophantic I see this as a statement of intent signing players nice and early. They'll get a full pre-season with the club provided they're fit. Hopefully this is just the beginning too.
