A lot of a-league clubs are doing that, due to the TV deal and speculated potential for up to 1 mil increase in the cap, could be a massive reshuffle for everyone

Two solid tough players. Good signings.
Goalkeeper, CAM and CB still needed.
I expect they would also like to add another front line striker.

The beauty is when the kids are called up as subs or injury replacements, they will not be overawed.

Should get at least 3 good games out of them as will be wanting to show Arnie he made a mistake.

Adds much needed physicality and street smarts. No more exposed kids looking at each other wondering what to do.

Happy with these signings. Also great that TW is going OS to help develop. Must be focused. Be crazy not to be. Poor showing to open next season and any dreams of a HAL career are done.

Actually, maybe more like Steve Bruce at Hull City as per this :

Walmsley's overseas recon mission:

walmsley2.jpg

Central Coast Mariners coach Tony Walmsley has a busy off-season ahead as he looks to rebuild from a disappointing A-League campaign this season.

Mariners have already announced two signings, as cousins Jacques Faty and Mickael Tavares have moved to Gosford after departing Sydney.

“Of course they both know each other well, they have an existing relationship,” Walmsley said.

“After the season that we’ve had we want to build quickly a cohesive unit and this makes sure the pre-season accelerates quicker than it normally would, so I’m excited.”

Next on the agenda for Walmsley is a trip to the UK to scout a number of other players identified as potential targets for next season.

“I’ve got the back end of the season and the play offs to watch a number of targets that we’ve identified. To meet with players and speak with them,” he said.

“Obviously with our visa restrictions we’re limited at the moment as to players we can bring in so we’re looking at Australians overseas as well as visa players, international players.”

The scouting trip will include a stopover at English Premier League side Everton, who the Mariners formed a partnership with last year.

“There’s also obviously the Everton connection to be maximised again to be reinforced to understand what players are available,” he said.

“We understand there are two players available but again we know that we’re in the hands of the FFA to a degree in regards to the restriction on age around visa players but also our own visa allocation is maxed out.”

Walmsley will also take the time to develop his own managerial experience.

“The other side for me is to really get some benchmarking done so
I’m going to spend a week with Hull City and in particular Steve Bruce.”

“I’m gonna shadow him through preparation and game day and obviously spend time with him in the afternoons to pick his brains about management at the high level.”

Mariners finished at the bottom of the table this season, collecting the club’s first wooden spoon in its history.

Sounds like the club will be pressuring the FFA again on the age restrictions for young visa players. i.e with the Everton possibillity.

Cant see the FFA changing the rules to accommodate the Mariners, however if it were another A-League club ........ well then yeah, maybe :-|

Always makes me think back to Damian Mori.

FFA: "We'll change the rules to hinder the Mariners BUT we wont change them to help them"

According to Storrie all the Australian based owners want this change now.

We really need Fab and Monty to make the jump to citizenship.

On the Everton partnership and rumours of City sniffing round Liam maybe we could entice him to re-sign for a longer period with the lure of a year at Finch Farm to develop further with the Everton U21 team. If we sign an extra keeper it surely wouldn't be a bad option for Izzo or THB either.

THIS ^ - loooooong overdue.

THIS^^^^^ - Pj , would be a smart piece of business. :headbounce:

With Tav now being signed, can easily see us going back to that 'defensive block' that was prev mentioned with both he & Monty sitting in front of the back 4.

TW sits down with Junior and sells the contact extension by offering this 'holiday' to Everton as a sweetener & by also mentioning:

● Possibillity of much less game time with CCM this coming season with Monty & Tav.

● Your development will accelerate with a new environment & challenges.

● Great 'shop window' opportunity

● You'll get a taste of what it'll be like overseas away from home for when your ready to make the next 'big-move' & will be confident in yourself about 'handling it overseas' & with making that decision, when it comes

● If not happy or it doesnt work out you'll have a guaranteed home & paycheck with CCM for another year or maybe 2 after that and will be hopefully coming back a better player for it.

CCM would want to lock Junior in for a minimum of an extra year on top of this season coming with an opportunity of going to Everton as the reward for that signing.

That gives us the following year (if Everton/others arent yet interested) to further develop him in the A-League & work on finding him a bigger club to go onto/sale.

2 years would be the most ideal.

That's what should have happened with Bernie Ibini, when he had nowhere to go when he wanted out of his Chinese deal after his Father passed & homesickness kicked in.

........ we gave him a home for the rest of that season BUT more importantly an opportunity to re-boot his career.

We should have made him sign for longer than that short contract.

- The repercussions of NOT signing Bernie for longer:
• Arnie enticed him away on a FREE xfer
• Berni then had his best season ever in the A-League
• Then Club Brugge came looking for more of the Mariner's lost treasure
• & Sydney reaped the sale $$'s and sell-on % clauses if any.

It was a dumb bit of business on our part. Rookie even, considering you'd think MC would have learned a thing or two with how Arnie helped set-up Matty Ryans & Tommy Rogic's deals that ultimately benefited (will with TR) the club significantly.

We CAN'T let that happen again with a player like Junior.

Omg, really thats great. Have a nice time. But please stay longer and get runs on the board as a coach somewhere else. We deserve better than this. Just as the non performing players have been shown the door so should the non performing coach.

Not allowed to recruit (so Storrie is on the record as saying) and has to go and learn to do the job he gave himself (after a global search)

Can't polish a turd.
