I personally have never seen him play so I can't really comment. But he has been injured so often that he seems to be made of glass. Matt Nash has done pretty well with his goalkeeping recruitment, both Ivan and Izzo have done well and been much better than I ever thought they would be. I'll put my faith in Matt Nash with this one because I think he has earned it. Personally would have preferred Alistair Bray/Chris Oldfield/Anthony Bouzanis but for our sake I hope Matt Nash has got this right.

JP, he had a knee injury in late 2008 early 2009 and an Achilles injury in pre-season. He was the Jets foundation keeper in 2006 and did well until replaced by Covic on his return to Australia.

I also would have preferred Oldfield. Unfortunately Bray is probably the person that is 'made of glass' because in the little I have seen of him he looked to be quite a competent and assertive keeper. Kennedy's record is also quite similar to Dean Bouzanis, better on clean sheets but slightly worse on goals per game, I haven't seen Anthony play but he is rated less highly than Dean.

Since Covic left he has been the best performed Jets keeper, better than Reddy, better than Birighitti and better than Duncan the people that have replaced him. Maybe the fact he has been second choice to these guys is a reason the Jets haven't made the finals for so long.

Sorry - but I am not of the opinion that many in Australia have that good Australian keepers are everywhere. At the moment we seem to have a dearth of them. There are a few good young ones overseas - but they are making their way. Kennedy seems to be worth a shot as one of two keepers. I'm not convinced he should be number one. Let's see who else we sign.

Duncan is worse than shit, an absolutely terrible keeper....so if Kennedy is deamed worse that shit.....its not exciting.
He is better than Ivan and Pearce but we still need a proper starting 11 keeper.

These players that we have this year are all good players:-

Ivan, Izzo, Ascroft, Roux, McGing, Berry, Powell, Pain, Bingham, Buhagiar, Neill, Ferriera, Appiah-Kubi, Adelson, Galloway
....

....

...

For a second XI or Bench for first team.

Only Poscoliero, Rose, Montgomery and O'Donovan are what should be considered first team - with Monty not getting any younger and having to work way to hard for a guy of his 'advancing' years.

I suspect we will not resign Necesvski, Izzo, Neill, Faty, Tavares, Ferriera, Appiah-Kubi. We also have lost THB, Fletcher and McDonald.

We have a major rebuild that has to happen.

Paul has the chance to rebuild his squad - but he must - and I believe he will - be ruthless. If you are an experienced player you must be doing your job or better or you will be replaced. If you are a youngster who got of lot of time this year be prepared to fight for your spot because better experienced players and younger better players are likely to be here.

What I didn't realise at the time I wrote this is that of the players that I said should be considered first XI only Rose is signed up for next year. The others we have are Ascroft, McGing, Berry, Powell, Pain & Buhagiar.

Time to step up Paul, do your job, show us what your squad looks like and sign first team players - we can't live through another season like the last two.

Nash was a 2nd rate keeper and so far he has earned nothing. Izzo had one good season after a train wreck year and Ivan has always been very average.

Okon says changes on the way at Mariners
Central Coast Mariners coach Paul Okon is preparing to wield the axe as his first season in charge of the A-League strugglers winds down and the opportunity to finally shape his own squad looms.

3 APR 2017 - 8:51 AM UPDATED 27 MINS AGO
The Mariners were trounced 5-1 by Brisbane Roar on Sunday, completely folding after taking the lead at Suncorp Stadium through winger Fabio Ferreira early in the first half.

It leaves them with the wooden spoon in hand - two points behind Adelaide United with two rounds remaining - despite having markedly improved since last season's nightmare under Tony Walmsley.

Maclaren hat-trick steers five-star Roar to comeback win over Mariners
A Jamie Maclaren second-half hat-trick has helped Brisbane Roar come from behind to thrash Central Coast Mariners 5-1 at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday night.

Inheriting Walmsley's squad late in the off-season when he was sacked after their shock FFA Cup loss to Green Gully, Okon has tried his best but was clearly frustrated with the way they capitulated against the Roar and warned personnel changes were on the way.

There are 14 players coming off contract at Central Coast - including all four of their foreigners - and few of them would have done themselves any favours with the performance.

"I think any player at any club who is at the end of their contract is in the same boat," Okon said.

"We have probably more than other clubs. If people want to be at this football club next season then, of course, they need to perform.

"And if people are (signed) to be here next year they also need to perform.

"If you're coming to the end of your contract and you're not playing well, you're not going to come under the eyes of someone else."

Okon said he was starting to get a clear picture of what kind of players the Mariners needed to recruit to succeed, and would push to do so despite the A-League's lowest budget.

"We know the areas of what we need to improve in, absolutely. And we'll do our very best to get to that point where we become a better football team," he said.

"It's a challenge, we don't have the resources and finances of some of the other clubs. But we know where we need to be better."

The Mariners face fellow battlers Newcastle Jets in the F3 Derby on Sunday in Gosford.

Central Coast Mariners players coming off contract: Jake Adelson, Kwabena Appiah, Josh Bingham, Jacques Faty (foreign), Fabio Ferreira (foreign), Scott Galloway, Paul Izzo, Nick Montgomery (foreign), Ivan Necevski, Michael Neill, Roy O'Donovan (foreign), Jacob Poscoliero, Storm Roux, Mickael Tavares (foreign)

Maybe Kennedy is the low risk option. Now we have 2 keepers without breaking the budget. Not great, but either should be able to perform reasonably well - rather than risk not being able to find a keeper, given there aren't a lot of them around.

I'm comfortable with this move. 1 year Kennedy is just cheap insurance.
I'd like to see money spent in other areas as a priority over the keeper position at this point

442 on a off contract thread had 125 players which included our 14 players off contract at seasons end.

Throw in possible overseas players and I trust him to be able to put together a decent squad.

More over with a year behind him it should improve him... add hopefully we spend the full cap amount this year.

Says the man chasing Ben Kennedy......
In fairness how many games has our keeper lost us? Would Kennedy raise that number? I don't think he will be first choice. He'll be afforded the chance to be first choice but that will be up to him and whoever it is he's fighting for a spot

We would be stupid to start a season without a top quality keeper.
Having said that we are stupid more often than not.

The way I look at Kennedy he is better than what we have and probably the obvious available keeper. At this stage he would be first choice. By the time we start next season he needs to be second choice.

That is the way I feel about a lot of our squad that have contracts for next season. Most, if not all should be second XI players. Some of them may turn into very good players, but it is not fair on the players, or the fans for that matter, to expect them all to mature together. There needs to be the right older players with them. Something we have suffered with since Arnie left and the Championship side was dismantled.
