If Roy goes we are going to have to find a quality striker, one of the key positions.
He should be the start of building a quality spine.
FFS it will cost money, simple.
If we let him go what hope of picking up a quality #10?
How long will we keep Paolo before he gets grabbed by another club?
Or are we going to end up looking in the seconds bin again. :(
We have coped with two tough seasons, one more will be the end.

Diawara wasn't bad for Reds and has looked good when I've watched them.
In post match Amor says "he's good ha" his height was key but also early in game held ball up well and unleashed a ripping shot from far out and almost curled into bottom corner. Was a surprise hit and lucky Ivan saw it, could easily have caught him out.

So they are out there but keeping Roy would save the risk of finding one.

Roy just didn't harass like usual, was that by design or desire?

Would he like me to drive him?
The badge pointing was pathetic, he can go
You'd kiss the badge to if you were plucked from Asia and are now getting $200,000 extra on top of your pay rise.

All any club needs to is offer $10 to $20 grand more than us for players they want because they know we can't match it.

Roy getting paid due to shortage of strikers, but I'm not convinced FBK on a regular basis and Naboutt can get him the ball any better than our guys. Cash is king over winning (not that we guarantee winning)

http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/article/2017/03/25/odonovans-six-figure-reason-leave-mariners

Roy O'Donovan will earn at least $100,000 per season more by leaving Central Coast Mariners for one of the other four A-League clubs chasing him.

http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/article/2017/03/25/future-captain-roux-set-re-sign-mariners

Central Coast Mariners are poised to announce the re-signing of defender Storm Roux, who is seen as a future captain at the club.
The Mariners are also understood to be considering making an offer for goalkeeper Ben Kennedy from Newcastle Jets as a replacement for the departing Paul Izzo.

Reading that article I can't really see Roy staying. It says him staying hinges on us attracting other players, and also that the deal could be announced in a week or two. We aren't going to suddenly attract players in that time frame.

Posco was on the radio at half time. He said he's had no contact with the club about a new contract. They seemed to think Monty hasn't either.
Is Roy's agent just trying to flush out a final offer from us? He's basically saying if you don't not only will you loose him it will be to Newcastle. Just a negotiating tactic? He's already up $100,000 per year onto of what ever pay rise we offered

Roy's bonkers if he signs with Scum. He said he wants to win trophies. He won't even make the six with scum again. We're clearly on the rise. Nothing to suggest they are on the improve.
This is (I think) only partly true. They're going to finish anywhere from 22pts to maybe 26pts, 4-8pts behind last year.

We're going to finish on somewhere from 20 to 23pts I reckon, 7-10pts ahead of last year.

But our end of season has been dreadful, with 1pt from the last 15 available. There's no sign of locking in good players, and in the state we're in I struggle to see how we recruit well. If you're a talented player with any ambition, are you going to go to a team whose best finish in the last three years is 8th?

The Jets at least have the prospect of perhaps seeing some investment in the squad, so their situation may actually change. I just don't see any way ours does.

We're not even going to spend the full cap in 2017/18 so there's no prospect of that changing, so any player who does come is going to ask for more than they'd ask for from a club which might give them the satisfaction of playing in a competitive team.

We're a basketcase for the foreseeable future, looking forward to brave battles for 9th place.

Id be tempted to play storm as right mid or wing back in a 352. (bye Fabio)

Going forward he is full of running and as long as he is facing forward he is ok.

Defensively awful

I can't understand the negative comments on Pain - he and Appiah on the other flank were our best (only) attacking outlets.

I was looking forward to some explosive action in the last 20 minutes when Trent went on, but I can't recall him touching the ball, let alone seeing anyone lob the ball forward in front of him - a complete waste.

As everyone says Fab is not a 10, but would most likely be good as a bench player for the right wing (may be too expensive).

Rose was good apart from his one blunder leading to their first goal. He was the marker that was beaten for another of their goals, but TBF he was shunted backwards by a Reds player as the corner kick was taken and the Ref didn't pick it up. It may have changed the complexion of the game if we received a free kick rather than have a goal against us.

If Roy is making a decision in the next week or 2 we have lost him. Apparently he wanted to see what players the club was signing to see if he would stay. Its very difficult to announce signing of players until the end of season. Hence Roy is gone.
I know this guy would demand big money but Jamie Maclaren would be a handy replacement. Would fit MCs transfer fee model as I'm sure he'll be attracting overseas interest. Not sure if Paulo has a connection with him but woukd make our front 3rd extremely pacey

If this is true then we are entering an extinction vortex.
Agree, Okon probably just using us as a spring board to bigger and better things like every player that comes to us. There is very little future without investment. How many of us will follow the team if they are relegated to a second division one day.

These players that we have this year are all good players:-

Ivan, Izzo, Ascroft, Roux, McGing, Berry, Powell, Pain, Bingham, Buhagiar, Neill, Ferriera, Appiah-Kubi, Adelson, Galloway
....

....

...

For a second XI or Bench for first team.

Only Poscoliero, Rose, Montgomery and O'Donovan are what should be considered first team - with Monty not getting any younger and having to work way to hard for a guy of his 'advancing' years.

I suspect we will not resign Necesvski, Izzo, Neill, Faty, Tavares, Ferriera, Appiah-Kubi. We also have lost THB, Fletcher and McDonald.

We have a major rebuild that has to happen.

Paul has the chance to rebuild his squad - but he must - and I believe he will - be ruthless. If you are an experienced player you must be doing your job or better or you will be replaced. If you are a youngster who got of lot of time this year be prepared to fight for your spot because better experienced players and younger better players are likely to be here.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Appiah signed, clearly Okon thought he has something as he persisted with him on the bench and now he is clearly keeping Trent on the bench and after last night it is totally justified. Trent needs more work and the two would work well pushing each other for a starting spot. I don't think he can be all that brutal as we will not have the funds to purchase 75% of a new squad. Losing say Roy and Fabs would free up a lot of cash but I don't expect any big name purchases to replace them. I expect a team of young players and journey men, take the Kennedy rumour as an example. Fornaroli was struggling everywhere before coming to Oz so journey men can be a good gamble and they are cheap and can be on sold if they work out.

You are right - Appiah may be signed. I expect much the same as you - but are our youngsters the best? Okon from his previous position should know this and be able to source better youngsters. Then put in 3 or 4 of the right 'journeymen' that are better than what we have here (Fabs I'm looking at you here) and we will compete well.

Remember, Monty, Macca, Rose and Patty Z were all journeymen in our Championship side. The right person is the key.

Also Lawrie has said they won't be splashing cash. Don't be fooled by the rich Chinese owner.
They will probably pay the cap but don't expect flashy signings.
They just signed a partnership with a chile club with the thought process being send a player that is no 11-14 in the chile squad to Jets to put them in the window to on sell to Chinese leagues. With them in 2nd division Chinese league that could be for any Chinese league not necessarily the top league.
While they have said they want Jets in the ACL in a couple of years they seem to be a promotional toy as well.

We loose Roy then we would have no foreigners.

So where do people want the 5 spots filled?

I'd go straight spine
GK, CB, DM, AM and Striker
But would be Tempted to go another mid fielder or winger instead of goalie

So is Fab going too?

We think so. Apparently expensive
But has lifted his work rate and is out of position since a terrible start (maybe when told you not coming back)
Just rumours but time will tell. He might be your classic if we can't do better we can come back to you

The year we won we had Maty, Trent, Bernie, Mitch and Tom as some of the best youngsters. We also had Macca ,Josh, Patrick, Hutch, Mile and Monty.

We were not supposed to be the best team. We just had the best coach, the best youth and the right older experienced players. We are different. Our model is different.. We just have to do it right.

Okon himself should be the 1st signing, with a min 2 yr extension.

No one of any quality is going to come here through his network on a 1 yr deal if he isn't here the year after next.

Extend Okon's contract this week, that's a statement. He's here and he's not going anywhere for the next 3 seasons. He is going to rebuild and mould a squad that's going to be competitive. Then let him do it.

That's what should come out of Tuggerah ASAP, preferably this week

He'd be waiting to see what jobs come up at the end of the season surely.
Scum coach has been found out and either Roar or Adelaide may well come up.
All 3 clubs spend the cap and will be competitive. Any ambitious coach wants the chance to compete.
He would be crazy to extend IMHO
