The quote included something along the lines of 'having a laser like left foot'. I don't know of any Aussies that currently fit that criteria. My guess is that MC may be exploring the Malouda option after the ISL season with the Delhi Dynamos connection. He isn't exactly setting the ISL alight though

The more I've thought of this the less I think my guess is right  - refer to the post immediately above.

Of the players expiring this year, we've not yet seen Bingham, Fletcher or McDonald.

Barring surprises, I'd be fairly surprised if we extended any of them, and of the players we have seen I'd be surprised if we extended Adelson (unless on a NYL full-time gig - he's only 20!), Appiah-Kubi, Faty, Ferreira (unless he starts really producing!), Necevski or Tavares.

Watch for players on this list suddenly discovering opportunities in Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore in January.

I think Tavares suffers because he and Faty seem to be a package deal. Their retention or not will be determined by the weaker player's performance. Faty is too up and down.

I think Montgomery, Neill, O’Donovan, Poscoliero and Roux are all going to be effectively on-notice too.

I would guess that they'd be re-signed, but if they have an extended poor run of form or injury...

I don't see why o'Donovan would be on notice - he's proven that he can hit the target if he's given the ball and he provides a lot in work-rate... At the very least I'd think they'd be interested in keeping him on as a Danny McBreen-style backup, although I think he's a bit off slowing down to that extend.

I know Roux has his detractors, but when he's good, he's good and decent full backs are notoriously hard to find... Not to mention, one forgets that he's only 23 - he's still got a bit of developing to do.

I think it'd be a mistake to let Posco go - we're not exactly experiencing a dearth of decent CBs and I think he has the ability to provide... I'd agree with Neill and Monty though - I'm not sure if Neill's youth and potential might save him.
As I see the group though, I'm half expecting to see a wholesale renewal of some of the younger boys,

Adelson
Appiah-Kubi
Bingham
Buhagiar

Based on the general feedback, I'd say Adelson is worth a cheap punt, in spite of his injuries - seems like he'll more than push for a starting birth when fit and seeing as we've already invested this much in him, may as well keep going ;)... Besides, between him/Roux and Galloway/Neill we'd have something as rare as workable depth at FB.

Appiah-Kubi seems to have been performing fairly well at the start of the season, although I'll admit to not being entirely certain about the quality of having a third-string LW floating around, if we assume that Ferreira is let go and replace.

Bingham - from memory he's been on the bench - problem for him is that Roy's been performing pretty well in his position and is match fit - that doesn't mean that we don't need a backup for the role though, and arguably, at this point, Bingers is the better option... Plus again, he's still fairly young.

Trent is probably the most obvious one - been getting game time and doing pretty well, all things considered, would be outright stupid to let him go, if he's willing to re-sign.

Great to hear that Liam Rose has resigned seeing Fitzgerald and Caceras get less and less time at City would have definitely had an effect. Can't wait to see him really tearing it up!

Rose is good news, ends the perception of being desperate and signing everybody elses cast offs, that a current player with real potential is happy to re-sign with us. Stops the local sharks circling now and perhaps sets us up for a big os transfer fee next year or Jan 2018.
Just guessing but our senior players of Monty, Roy, Fab, Tav and Faty must chew up $1m in cap, thats a lot of reasons for PO to let them go if he thinks he can sign better.
I thought Roux getting the captains arm band last week was a pretty good sign he is in.

Paul is in a unique position, with 17 players off contract and a season to look at the youth team, and taking MC at his word [which has not been that bad over the last 18 months] there is more money next year.

Plus no one is going to blame him for the current squad, so he gets a year to develop with less pressure than most, with 17 changes he can make and more money.

It will be interesting to see what he can do with what we have .... we are playing better than last year and arguably with a weaker squad...

Roly Bonevacia's contract with the Wellington Phoenix ends at the end of this season. I think he would be a great addition to our line-up but is probably out of our price range.

Spiranovic team has been relegated in China and Ange has said Chinese 2nd division is not good enough and his national team spot could be in jeopardy.

Probably to expensive and wouldn't want to come here but would be perfect for us.

He'd get plenty of work

Don't think we have much chance, he's a Melbourne boy and Victory need an experienced Centre Back.

We need to use the World Cup as recruitment bait to try get some fringe Socceroos as we can offer the playing time and Ange is happy to pick A League players.
They just might deem us to risky
