How many of Moss's problems stemmed from the same group?

Moss was manager from Nov 13 to March 15.
Reddy was initially signed by Arnold but played a whole season before Moss signed him to a 2 year deal in March 2014.
Moss brought in Sim and Trifiro early in 2014 and handed them contract extensions in Dec 2014.
Walmsley brought Caceres into the NYL, Arnold signed him to a senior contract in 2012 and Moss extended it in July 2014.
Walmsley also brought Fitzgerald into the NYL, Arnold signed him from Brisbane in 2013 and Moss extended his contract in January 2015.
Anderson was signed by Arnold in 2012 and was being touted as a future captain in the media by Moss in January 2014.
Kalik was signed from the AIS by Arnold in 2013 and was the youngest player to have a pro contract at the time. He had previously played with SFC NYL and they hadnt picked him up. He came with huge wraps but has only made 13 senior appearances, he is still only 18.
Moss signed Bosnar in Feb 2014 and then extended his contract in May 2014.

He certainly contributed to his own problems if that were the case. On face value signing Reddy made sense (if he had been behaving) as he is a quality keeper imo. Caceres seems good business and may earn us some coin now. I agree with GrA, I think he was tactically limited, maybe this was symptomatic though by playing some of his very ordinary signings. I heard that it was Monty who was most unhappy with him last season, even though he signed again before he was sacked.

Potentially controversial questions -

How many of Moss's problems stemmed from the same group?

How many of Moss's problems persisted because he had either lacked the backing or the backbone to take it on?

Yeah I think that's unlikely.

My own suspicions are that Moss would have blamed the club for a lot of the way things turned out and that it was likely the beginning of the rot that became MAriners is not what it once was "joke" of a club - not serious owner etc era... with NSO debacle, money ball, entertaining not winning all lending strong credence.

Did he blame the performances on his coaching or the club for not giving him the same level of $$/trust as Arnie... and so he was "forced" to his detriment to take on less reliable signings like... well almost everyone he signed really - with Fab the most notable exception. Seems to be suggestions supporting this in the words coming out of CCM.

We know Moss certainly had some ill will about being shown the door and people have implied the whole TW landing the job was all just manipulation - and then when an absolute declaration of faith was then extended to Tony. Must of pissed him off royally, and from his passive aggressive comments we know it pissed of Arnie, and that Arnie besides Crawley and Clarkey, had the ear and trust of all our current dissenters.

Anyway, I think bad coaching and yes, lesser resources and bad signings was the reason we were so poor under him. But I think beyond the shit results the club saw that he had lost the fans, however what I'm guessing is that he actually hadn't lost the players we are talking about and that when combined with the fertile ground for bacteria to grow that is spooning, has sewn much of the seeds for the discontent.

Lot of evidence in players leaking to Moss etc also.

Yeah I mean it's a pretty clear trail isn't it. And in some regards not even unreasonable to expect this will only lead to trouble after the former mentors are gone, unhappy about how it occurred, and now you're spooning.

That doesn't look like much of a conspiracy theory to me. Pretty straight line you can draw through it all.

We got unders for him but I'm glad he's gone.

Underachiever as a player.

He would probably make a half decent winger.

If we did get $300k id argue it as top business rather than getting unders. Not to mention the cap space it frees up.

For comparison we received $400k for Rogic.

Wonder if we had the cheek to request a sell on clause for bugger lugs? :innocent:

I know where you're coming from - but strictly speaking I don't even really think it'd be that cheeky.
He's been with us since the NYL days and he's still got 18 months to go on his contact. Whether he wants to go or not, I think we've deserved something back for the combined investment and remainder of the contract... Above and beyond what he's already given in terms if playing... which he got paid for anyway.

Considering how poorly he has been playing I'd say it's a pretty reasonable price. It's pure skill and potential fee, not for performance

Everyone knows he had/has potential. But a play maker has to make plays. What was that stat, 62 games, 3 goals 1 assist was it? Do I have it wrong? Surely more assists than that?

Goal average of 0.05
Thinking at City he won't go over the limit either :popo:
so 257k AUD seems ok.

A breakout season and we could have hoped for twice that. But the way he was playing might have been worth half that in a years time, or just gone on a free in 18 months.
