Not true. If we offload Reddy and Bosnar who is reportedly on 10% of our entire budget then we can afford him quite easily. Still very good friends with Hutch and lots of connections on the Coast.

... and we still need to reach the cap floor

. the concern that i have with getting wilko back is how little we now seem willing to spend on any one player regardless of value ... and ... hutch's view to distance himself from the playing group now his role has changed

. wilko's value would be much more than his salary imho

As a new coach, hutch needs to stamp his authority on the dressing room. No different in business really, take over a new team and you need to show who's boss

(Victorian expression is "nail a dead crow to the fence" but I prefer the French "pour Les encourages Les autres")

You also need allies, people who you know are personally loyal to you even if they think you are wrong.

Monty and Wilko could fit that bill I reckon.

With our new philosophy recruiting top offensive talent who don't like defending should be easy.

Top defensive talent like wilko not so much. Coming to us in this state would not be good for him and his national team position

I don't know about that.
We may just need someone to bark, order and round them up when we are getting back. If he can bring some sort of order to our retreat when we lose the ball (at least the back 4 anyway) it may elevate his national team standing. He's a ready made leader for a back 5 that have been given probably the hardest task in the a-league.
He'd be a step in the right direction and he'd create a buzz with the fans.
This is all assuming he'd be willing to come to the new look mariners. A move to us is in all honesty a risk of career suicide for a defender now.

Absolutely agree - and with Monty at 34 being run into the ground we will need a new leader for the team sooner rather than later.

Sorry for being a smart-arse. For those who don't speak French, I said "not bad for someone who last spoke French 50 years ago."

Izzo misses out on upcoming Olyroo's friendly tour:

http://www.ccmfans.net/community/threads/afc-u-23-championship-2016-olyroos.5771/

Win / Win for the Mariners!

1st Win:
We keep Izzo during the upcoming tour starting with the first game on the 12th November & the 2nd on the 16th Nov.

Perhaps Vidmar thinks letting him stay will be a tougher test for him playing in the A-League and give a better indicator whether he makes the final squad for the tournament in January 2016.

Also let's him take a look at former Glory Youth Keeper, Jack Duncan at the same time which 'effectively' gives him the chance to 'trial' both of his prefferred #1 keeper's at the same time, except he'll just have video of Izzo to analyze when he gets back.

So Paul's gonna have to perform well if he wants to play AFC U-23 Championships.

2nd Win:
Vidmar has also selected:

Giancarlo GALLIFUOCO
Melbourne Victory FC, AUSTRALIA
Scott GALLOWAY
Melbourne Victory FC, AUSTRALIA

Jason GERIA
Melbourne Victory FC, AUSTRALIA
Connor PAIN
Melbourne Victory FC, AUSTRALIA

Who will ALL most likely make the final squad for the tournament which kicks- off with the first game on the 14th January 2016 ..................

............. we play Melbourne Victory on the
8th January 2016!

The Olyroo's squad will have flown out before then for pre-tournament preparations/camp ........so Muscat will be without
4 of their current starting 16 players when we play them.

Rose hopes Reddy and Mariners can move on:

reddy.jpg

Central Coast defender Josh Rose is hopeful the Liam Reddy saga can be dealt with quickly so both the stood-down goalkeeper and disrupted club can move on.

Reddy is expected to depart the Mariners following his indefinite suspension nearly two weeks ago over alleged ongoing disciplinary issues.

The ban follows a number of off-field incidents that stem back to the pre-season, when he was also suspended.

It's understood the two parties have been unable to reconcile their differences and are negotiating a payment for the final year of the 34-year-old's contract .

Reddy has the backing of the players' union, Professional Footballers Australia, who have accused the Mariners of bullying tactics and not following due process.

Rose was reluctant to discuss the details of Reddy's case, only saying the issue had affected everyone involved.

"I'm good mates with Rocket, we have kids the same age and we hang out quite a bit," Rose said.

"He's doing alright. He's obviously upset with the situation and things like that.

"But he realises he's been told he's not wanted there, and that's fine.

"It's just best if everything gets settled quicker rather than later, then everyone can move on."

It's believed Reddy is one of at least two senior players who have been openly critical of coach Tony Walmsley's style and tactics, fearful their new emphasis on attack has left the Mariners too exposed defensively.

However, a diplomatic Rose believes the controversy surrounding Walmsley and owner Mike Charlesworth's approach had been "beat up a fair bit", saying he enjoyed the attack-minded approach.

He also said Reddy's recent claims were not necessarily a criticism of Walmsley's tactics.

"I didn't think it was him criticising the style," Rose said.

"It was just him basically saying what had been said all pre-season, that we are going to play an attacking style and we are going to take risks, and we are going to be left vulnerable at times.

The debacle has put Reddy's A-League career on the rocks, with former Mariners coach Graham Arnold having already thrown him a lifeline after being dumped by Sydney FC in 2012 for being drunk on a team flight.

Good for us and likely him. What are the odds we'll have signed Oldfield by then...?

I liked this article re: Rose - his is the attitude all our players should have and another reason Rose is/will be a Mariners legend:

wwos.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=9048281

Central Coast veteran Josh Rose is relieved to have returned from his pre-season injury, and content to play wherever his struggling yet daring team need him.
Rose played his first match of the A-League season against Sydney FC last weekend, having been sidelined with a knee problem since the Mariners' last trial clash against Brisbane in September.
The 33-year-old could barely walk for a week thanks to severe bruising on the back of his knee and a medial ligament strain.
But he returned to play the full 90 minutes in Saturday's fourth-round 3-1 loss at Central Coast Stadium, despite admitting his fitness isn't quite back up to scratch yet.
"I felt not too bad," Rose told AAP.
"It was unfortunate timing when I did my knee in pre-season because I had been feeling fantastic.
"On the weekend I still felt a little bit underdone, but I'll build in the next few weeks and hope we get back to 100 per cent.
"The pain has gone away a lot. It was a bit stiff on Sunday, but it's definitely getting better and improving a lot each day now."
Rose has now entered the 15th year of his career and sixth with the Mariners, for whom he's excited to play Walmsley's new uncompromising attacking style that has been labelled by management as the entertainment fans want.
"Attacking is my strength as a defender, so if I'm going to play a leftback or a centreback role I know we're going to be pressing and it's going to be a lot more attacking, so I'm happy with that," he said.
"I enjoy it, and as far as entertaining goes, I think I've been entertaining for the six seasons so it's business as usual for me."
It might be on that front, but there is uncertainty as to where Rose now slots into the group.
Traditionally a defender, he was mainly used on the left wing during the pre-season.
But given new youngster Mitch Austin's impressive form in that role, Rose may be required elsewhere.
"He (Walmsley) knows I'm here to do a job wherever he needs me and wherever that may be, even if it's left-back," Rose said.
"I definitely enjoyed my role as a left winger in the pre-season, but if the team needs me to play somewhere else I'm happy to fill in wherever that may be."

There'll be no rose for Michael Turnbull from TW:

The Bachelorette runner-up Michael Turnbull rejected by Central Coast Mariners

Denied by the love of his life last month, The Bachelorette runner-up Michael Turnbull has again been rather harshly rejected.

Central Coast Mariners coach Tony Walmsley laughed off reports the A-League club is considering signing the 34-year-old former goalkeeper as a replacement for the banished Liam Reddy.

The Mariners are in the market for a back-up gloveman with Reddy, having run foul of the coaching staff after criticising the team's tactical approach, set to be released from his contract.

Turnbull was last seen on a football field leading the celebrations following Melbourne Victory's A-League title success earlier this year - despite spending the entirety of his brief stint as an injury replacement player at the club on the bench.

Walmsley said the only time Turnbull's name had been mentioned at the Mariners was by the wives of assistant coach John Hutchinson and strength and conditioning coach Brice Johnson.

"I can end the speculation," said Walmsley, barely able to keep his composure when the question was put to him by reporters in Gosford on Friday.

"I think Hutchy's and Bricey's wives watch The Bachelorette and they're all for it.

"But nobody's convinced me yet that he's somebody that the Mariners are going to be looking at anytime soon."

It likely spells the end of Turnbull's footballing career, which he famously embellished on the reality show by claiming he was a former Socceroo and played at the Olympic Games.

Rather, Turnbull played for the Young Socceroos, not the full national team, and while selected in the Olyroos squad for Sydney 2000, he didn't play a single minute.

Turnbull caused another stir among soccer fans on Thursday by tweeting he was about to meet up with a "good man" at the Western Sydney Wanderers, fuelling suggestions he was attempting a professional comeback.

But he wasn't discussing a potential A-League deal - Turnbull was merely in Parramatta to shoot a Fox Sports segment with Wanderers defender Scott Jamieson.
