Today's developments sheds a little light on this article.

Are we going to sign a 'Scouser' ??? ......

Interesting that last year's Victorian NPL "Goal Keeper of the Year" award winner - Chris Oldfield was a trialist GK in the recent pre-season friendly closed game against Melb. Victory on the 14th of SEP.

The 24 y.o Irishman is a former Liverpool FC youth graduate and came on in the 64th minute. Despite our poor defence letting in 3 already at that stage, Oldfield DIDN'T concede a goal.

In fact it was the second time the 'Hume City' keeper faced Victory in less than a week, following a 4-3 defeat against the A-League champions at ABD Stadium last Wednesday.

Oldfield joined the Merseyside giants when he was just 12 years old. He rose through the ranks at Liverpool, and in 2008 was the Anfield club's U18's keeper, impressing enough to earn a place in the reserves squad for a close-season tour of Holland, fulfilling his dream move of signing a professional contract.

Among his teammates were – Steven Gerard, Fernando Torres, Javier Mascherano, Luis Suarez and Pepe Reina.

But with Reina in front of him, Oldfied left Anfield. He was released by Liverpool at the end of the 2009-10 season and he spent the first half of the that season on a short term contract with Rochdale before deciding to sign for Bangor City in the Welsh Premier League.

In the subsequent years, false starts at various clubs around the UK saw Oldfield become desperate for first team football so he decided to look Down Under.

Louie Acevski the coach at Hume City signed Oldfield after he saw his YouTube video. Acevski, a former NSL keeper himself with Melb.Knights & Northern Spirit, is in no doubt about the quality that Oldfield possesses.

“Chris is a very solid goalkeeper, in all aspects. He is six feet two, got a great physique for being a goalkeeper, he’s commanding in his box, he’s a great shot stopper, he works extremely hard at training and he wants to continuously learn".

He's trained with Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory and apparently had enquiries from other A-League clubs.

So why haven't they signed him ???

"What I’ve been told is that if I had a visa, signing for an A-League club would have happened,” Oldfield said.

Don't know if I 'buy that' reasoning? Melb.City have just signed a visa spot GK for this season in ex EPL Aston-Villa/Stoke City player 'Thomas Sorrenson' from Denmark.

Bright side for Oldfield (& possibly CCM) is that 16th January 2016 is bookmarked as an important date on the Scouser’s calendar. It’s when Oldfield’s Australian residency comes into effect and it could just be his ticket to the A-League with us!

Oldfield's played 97 games for the club since 2012, including 28 this season and is expected to return to Hume City to contest the club’s FFA quarter final clash against Oakleigh Cannons.

So we'll get a good look at him then and maybe it could be the game that "ink's the deal" with us.

The Central Coast Mariners would like to inform Members, fans and the media that goalkeeper Liam Reddy will not be available for selection whilst the club addresses a series of off-field issues, in accordance with the FFA National Code of Conduct.
This decision follows Reddy’s non-selection during a period of the Mariners’ Hyundai A-League pre-season where similar and continual disciplinary issues were also addressed.

The Central Coast Mariners will make no further comment while the club undertakes a formal process in relation to the matter.

What I'm trying to understand, is what it is that you think he should've done in stead of the suspension.

As we have almost nothing said by the club that would in of itself warrant 'suspension', rather than running off with theories about what Reddy may have done, over what period, I deal with the known.

He made his views known about the coaches tactics and their impact through some media outlet asking him the questions.

If that is the extent of it, then Walmsley should remember this is senior professional football not a youth academy and man up and take the words on the chin and move on.

If it is more than that, then yes the action is warranted - but until the club or player or both reveal what is actually the issue/s then I'll stick to what I know.

The club statement posted above clearly alludes to "similar and continual disciplinary issues" by Reddy during the pre-season, so I'm gonna assume the comments referred to in News Ltd reports are obviously not the full extent.

It looks all over for Reddy at the Mariners

Controversial goalkeeper Liam Reddy looks to have played his last game for Central Coast Mariners after being suspended indefinitely over a series of transgressions.

21 Oct 2015 - 6:54 PM UPDATED 20 MINS AGO

A Mariners source has revealed that 34 year-old Reddy’s unwillingness to buy into the culture of the club, committed to attacking football under coach Tony Walmsley, has all but sealed his exit, and he won’t be welcomed back into the fold even although he remains contracted until May 2016.

Stand-in keeper Paul Izzo will take over between the sticks for Sunday's A-League match away to Melbourne City, with the door now firmly shutting on Reddy, who received a letter this week detailing a number of issues of what the source said he had displayed “a poor attitude”.

Reddy, who was handed a week-long ban during the off-season, is seen as dysfunctional presence in the dressing room by the club’s hierarchy which is seeking to steer the Mariners in a new direction.
“He’s not buying into what we are trying to create. These situations can become toxic and it’s not something the club can tolerate,” the source said.
“There has been a number of incidents during a period of time, and it is not down to one particular incident. It’s been a question of him being disrespectful towards the club.”

Reddy, who was dumped by Sydney FC in 2012 for being drunk on a flight, was given a fresh start by the Mariners, but the goodwill built up last season has quickly evaporated.
The 34 year-old was publicly critical of the club’s free-flowing, high-risk tactics employed during its 2-1 loss to Brisbane Roar on Sunday, and it seems those comments may have sealed his fate.
“When you start the season with a young squad and you get a senior player who is vocal about what we are doing not being the right thing, then that has to be addressed,” the source said.

It’s understood that while Central Coast can’t cancel Reddy’s contract on the strength of his recent behavioural issues, the goalkeeper will now be free to leave or may be forced to train alone or with the Mariners National Youth League team in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) Chief Executive Adam Vivian said that the Mariners are in breach of its legal obligations to Reddy.

“Despite having been one of the Mariners’ most consistent and important players over the past few seasons, Liam was this week informed that he is no longer in the clubs plans,” Vivian said.
“In an attempt to force Liam to leave on terms suitable to the club, the Mariners have threatened him with the prospect of training alone and have issued him with a second written breach notice, despite never having received a first.

“If the club does not cease in its attempts to force Liam out of the Mariners and continues to disregard his contractual rights the PFA will not hesitate to take action.”

*sigh* He really is a good keeper and has pulled off some great saves for us but if he is causing disharmony he'd probably best go.

Let's hope regular action unleashes Izzo's potential and we have Ryan 2.0 on our hands.

Hmmm

New management change strategy and senior employee disagrees. Told to toe the line and doesn't.

Only 1 outcome. Management 101 really.

Nothing to see here

If they were pre-season issues, and they warrant the action - why was he playing first 2 rounds (yes, I know Izzo was away)

That would have left us with Pearce in goals, and no backup keeper (unless the club was able to include Nash in the squad). Instead of being 1/2, we'd be 0/2 - not the start we need for the season.

Can't go around publicly bagging the gaffer and poisoning the young blokes.
PFA will ensure the disciplinary process is followed so if the club don't have it right it will cost to punt him.
Lets hope we don't end up like the scummers last year.
Izzo needs to improve from his cup performance to stay #1.

damn, we've been lucky with quality keepers to date. let's hope Izzo is another.

there'll be more to this story though you watch. there's no way we've been told the full story at this stage.

imo it's going to hurt us losing him at this point but if he really is a derailer then so be it.

I just wish the pfa would take a breath before flying off at the mouth. the team morale and culture is critical and a part of the business model. if the club decides an employee is acting against the best interests of the team they have the right to not play them and even not to train with them. they just can't end the contract without paying it out. it's not bullying him into agreeing to end the contract, he can say no and sit at home until his contract ends in 7 months if he wants to.

Didn't take the hint when Izzo was signed to be on sold while Reddy only had one year left on his contract.

If we axe him on favourable terms wound if that effects our 90% floor.

Proud man probably to stubborn to change his ways when writing on the wall. Happens every where with longer term employees in response to change in direction by a new management. Just get used to what you know and hate change.
Also he is not totally wrong defence is being sacrificed but that's for Tony to wear the consequences as its his directive.

Good bye to a good keeper.

Wonder if the other was Boznar as he was on bench for game 1 then missing for game 2.
