Little Snippet about Fábio Ferreira from an SBS article:
Man of the hour (and a half)
Fabio Ferreira was dynamite for Central Coast Mariners in their win over Perth Glory.

He smashed two penalties past Glory goalkeeer Ante Covic and also set up his team's other goal with a shot that Covic could only deflect with his feet into the body of Mariners striker Roy O'Donvan. The rebound went straight in.

Taking penalties isn't easy, ask Wellington Phoenix, and when you're the penalty taker and you step up to the spot for the second time in a match you've got to decide whether to put the ball in the same place as you put it the first time or aim somewhere else.

Ferreira put it in the same place, he just hit the ball a bit harder and a bit higher into the back of the net. That's confidence.

"I’m very proud of the team, we play very good," Ferreira said. "I think we have a good team and I hope we can do well this season. I’ve been training a lot and I was confident in both the two penalties," Ferreira said.

"I’m happy with the two goals and I’m happy for us to start with a win."

Just realised he's equal leader in the Golden Boot for this year ;).

Ascroft lured by Mariners' proven production line

Young Socceroo Harry Ascroft says Central Coast’s history of producing players who succeed in Europe was a major factor in his decision to join the club.

Ascroft, 20, joined the Mariners in the off-season after more than 12 months with Dutch club VVV Venlo where he made seven first-team appearances.

The defender made his A-League debut in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Perth Glory and is one of a handful promising players lured to the Mariners by new coach Tony Walmsley, along with Mitch Austin and Paul Izzo.

The Gosford-based club has struggled to compete with the league’s heavyweights in the recruitment of big-name players.

The Mariners have previously seen the likes of Mat Ryan, Trent Sainsbury, Oliver Bozanic, Alex Wilkinson, Mitch Duke, Bernie Ibini, Mile Jedinak and Tom Rogic go on to bigger and better things after time at the Mariners.

“They’ve got past history which proven players who have made it over in Europe,” Ascroft told FourFourTwo.

“I definitely want to be a part of that. They’ve got great history in nurturing and developing players as well.

“That was a major factor and I’m happy to be at the Mariners.”

Ascroft penned a three-year contract at Central Coast Stadium, but admits he still wants another crack at Europe.

“The three years is a long-term plan but you never know where football takes you,” he said.

“Tony Walmsley is a great coach and a great person. He’s very encouraging and pushes the young players.

“Especially with the history of the Mariners, producing players to go overseas, it was a big part.

“He’s given a lot of faith to young players and that was a major factor as well.”

Ascroft was also enthused by the football encouraged at Central Coast under Walmsley.

“He definitely wants an entertaining style for the fans,” he said.

“We speak about being entertaining as a group for the fans and playing attacking-minded football.”

Plenty of people have already written off the Mariners, with few tipping them to make the finals.

“It is a young squad but it’s very passionate and motivated,” Ascroft said.

“We all want to do really well. We’ve got all the talent in the group, with some experience so it’s a good mix.”

Central Coast Mariners goalkeeper Liam Reddy stood down indefinitely

Sports reporter

The career of veteran goalkeeper Liam Reddy is in doubt after he was stood down indefinitely by Central Coast Mariners over recurring behaviour issues.

The 34-year-old will not travel with the squad to play Melbourne City this weekend and his playing days with the club hang in the balance after a flare-up of ongoing problems. Major behavioural concerns were cited that have disrupted the team in recent weeks.

Club sources suggest Reddy's future will be determined by his response with no certainty as to whether he will play again for the club. His attitude was brought into question by the coaching staff which has also resulted in Reddy being removed from training.

The revelations follow Reddy's explosive comments over the weekend and criticism of his side's performance.

"I rub people up the wrong way sometimes but if you ask me a question I'll tell you how it is - if you don't like it, I don't give a f ..." He told News Ltd.

Reddy hit-out at the tactics of coach Tony Walmsley over the weekend criticising the preference for young players and attack over defence.

"The boys are under instructions this year from the coaching staff to attack so we know we're going to be left vulnerable and man-for-man at the back sometime. That's the way the coaching staff want it, so we've all had to adapt, myself and the back four," he told News ltd.

"It's something we've got to be wary of and make sure we're switched on if it does break down and that we're set up to cover."

It is not the first time the goalkeeper has suffered a fall-out with a club after being dumped by Sydney FC in 2012 for being drunk on a flight.

Reddy was also at the centre of an on-field bust-up with a teammate when playing in the now defunct National Soccer League for Parramatta Power when he punched teammate Mark Byrnes.

Was it only a matter of time?

Might be why we got a keeper with first team experience to be a #2 rather than a kid.

Speaking of, is Izzo back in the country?

The article cites (but does not elaborate on) "recurring behaviour issues", "a flare-up of ongoing problems" and "Major behavioural concerns". It is not clear whether bagging tactics or squad management to media are all or part of the conduct that is at issue.

Was in the media over the weweekend.

Club statement refers to pre season issues.

Izzo it is then

I didn't see them .. I don't read the gutter press.

If they were pre-season issues, and they warrant the action - why was he playing first 2 rounds (yes, I know Izzo was away)

Terrible news. He has been our best player for 2 seasons and has looked awesome so far this year.
I can understand his frustration at our poor defending so far but he needs to pull his head in and do his job. Hopefully TW is man enough to handle the criticism from Reddy and calm the situation.
We need him with such a lightweight( at this stage) defence.

Well if he has kept doing something when asked to stop he doesn't deserve to play for a A-League club. I'm sure Izzo can step up one positive out of this I guess is another young player gets a chance to shine.

Out he goes - I think we've seen plenty of what happens when there's a destabilising influence in the playing staff, over the last year-or-two, good on Tony et al, for responding to it, irrespective of who the player is... He can do a LOT of good in goals, but he can do at least as much - potentially more - by destroying morale!
What are the odds that he and Eddy have been teaming up? ;)

You might not be far off the mark:

It’s believed the suspension relates to internal criticism of coach Tony Walmsley, with Reddy and at least one other senior player having made their feelings clear about his style of coaching and tactics.

If he doesn't want to play according to the style that Tony's trying to establish then he should take what the club's offering and walk - and so should the other player.

It's thoroughly disappointing, since he's been such a key player for us over the last two seasons.

If is about making his feelings clear, then Walmsley should man up. This is senior football not youth.

If Reddy / anyone else are refusing to play to game plan, then you are quite right. At present the club aren't saying that, hence the questioning of their statement.

Thing is that we don't know that he hasn't... For mine, I'd suggest that indications are that they have, at least, discussed this, if it's gotten to the point of a suspension in the last couple of months... I'd be surprised to find that we'd suspended our #1 keeper without some sort of lead-up.
So bearing that in mind, I'm genuinely curious to hear what it is that you think Walmsley should be doing differently to "man up"?
