Unless we sign him as an Aussie marquee, can we afford him?
I wouldn't have thought so, unless this has all been factored in a while back. IMO we are still short a quality CB and forward but i'm not holding my breath. Saying that i still think we can get into the 6 and will surprise a few.

I definitely think top 6. It'll be a rebuilding year for sure though many of our youngins need this years experience to grow into what they can be. Then we'll have an awesome team next year and that January we'll get gutted by transfers and go through it all again.

There is a lil coin around from the sale of one young aussie goal keeper. Maybe a bit has been stashed.
All the talk of kids and schools is the right frame of mind to want to come home.
Ready made captain.
Bosnar not here next year. Hopefully.
Not a full year. Maybe his deal could be back end heavy.

I can dream can't I?
In fairness to the owner, he does have a genetic condition resulting in very short arms which makes it difficult to reach into his very long pockets.

Ok ... lets help mike out. How bout each of the 6500 members (proposed) pledge 40 bucks each, we could buy wilko for the season.....

1 - the Wilkinson's kept their house in Terigal

2 - all the other A-league teams will spend close to the full cap by the start of the season so most likely only injury replacements and Aussie marquee spots available in jan

3 -Mrs Hutch and Mrs Wilko started a children's fashion business together just before the Korean deal, coming back is good for the hole family!

this is the most no brainer decision, exactly what our team needs for the football, future leadership and an injection of the old fashioned mariners spirit.

Signing wilkinson will resinate far deeper with the central coast population than putting a palm tree on a shirt

Until recently we were apparently aiming at the salary cap floor. The floor has move $255,000. In other words we are obliged to spend another $255,000. There is some money to put towards Wilko.

The jump is from 85% to 90% - that's $127,500 on the current cap. The last 15% of the cap is worth $382,500 all up.

He is exactly what we need. TW does rate the two young fellas and apparently Bosnar is having a good preseason......so maybe he is not as desperate to sign him as we are.
I'll put $40 in to get him here.

Sorry - my mistake. However, on the flip side Wilko that's $127,500 that could go towards a Wilko contract for half the season from late-November to end of May with room to move after that.

Reckons we should have had 5 against SFC in the first half.

I'm not quite sure how to feel about that - we should have won against WellNux, we SHOULD have had at least 2 - probably 3, by the end of the first half.
So on one hand, it's nice that we're creating good chances and obviously we're able to convert some of them - on the other hand, going on our attacking history, I can't help but be a little worried about landing back in our usual low-scoring reliance on defence, without having the cattle to do that...

It IS pretty exciting though, that we're even creating those chances and seemingly actually managing to convert any of them at all - which is a sad indictment of last season I suppose ;)

It speaks volumes to the type of football we will be playing though. If TW had of got his man then he would have that finisher. Heffernan will have to do. Hopefully he gets a bag full.

Are we going to sign a 'Scouser' ??? ......

Interesting that last year's Victorian NPL "Goal Keeper of the Year" award winner - Chris Oldfield was a trialist GK in the recent pre-season friendly closed game against Melb. Victory on the 14th of SEP.

The 24 y.o Irishman is a former Liverpool FC youth graduate and came on in the 64th minute. Despite our poor defence letting in 3 already at that stage, Oldfield DIDN'T concede a goal.

In fact it was the second time the 'Hume City' keeper faced Victory in less than a week, following a 4-3 defeat against the A-League champions at ABD Stadium last Wednesday.

Oldfield joined the Merseyside giants when he was just 12 years old. He rose through the ranks at Liverpool, and in 2008 was the Anfield club's U18's keeper, impressing enough to earn a place in the reserves squad for a close-season tour of Holland, fulfilling his dream move of signing a professional contract.

Among his teammates were – Steven Gerard, Fernando Torres, Javier Mascherano, Luis Suarez and Pepe Reina.

But with Reina in front of him, Oldfied left Anfield. He was released by Liverpool at the end of the 2009-10 season and he spent the first half of the that season on a short term contract with Rochdale before deciding to sign for Bangor City in the Welsh Premier League.

In the subsequent years, false starts at various clubs around the UK saw Oldfield become desperate for first team football so he decided to look Down Under.
oldfield-johnson-3.jpg
Louie Acevski the coach at Hume City signed Oldfield after he saw his YouTube video. Acevski, a former NSL keeper himself with Melb.Knights & Northern Spirit, is in no doubt about the quality that Oldfield possesses.

“Chris is a very solid goalkeeper, in all aspects. He is six feet two, got a great physique for being a goalkeeper, he’s commanding in his box, he’s a great shot stopper, he works extremely hard at training and he wants to continuously learn".

He's trained with Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory and apparently had enquiries from other A-League clubs.

So why haven't they signed him ???

"What I’ve been told is that if I had a visa, signing for an A-League club would have happened,” Oldfield said.

Don't know if I 'buy that' reasoning? Melb.City have just signed a visa spot GK for this season in ex EPL Aston-Villa/Stoke City player 'Thomas Sorrenson' from Denmark.

Bright side for Oldfield (& possibly CCM) is that 16th January 2016 is bookmarked as an important date on the Scouser’s calendar. It’s when Oldfield’s Australian residency comes into effect and it could just be his ticket to the A-League with us!

oldfield-johnson.jpg

Oldfield's played 97 games for the club since 2012, including 28 this season and is expected to return to Hume City to contest the club’s FFA quarter final clash against Oakleigh Cannons.

So we'll get a good look at him then and maybe it could be the game that "ink's the deal" with us.

I think that at a minimum, if he's equivalent to Izzo - Walmsley should just sign him NOW ! and take the 'visa-spot' that he's probably saving for an 'Evertonian' loan later on. (hopefully better than Izzo, maybe even better than Reddy ???)

Oldfield's 'foreign-player' status should (???) expire come 16/Jan/2016, then that re-open's up the 'visa-spot' for some more 'Scouser talent of the Blue variety' come next X-fer window. CCM just need to sort out this finer detail 1st w/ the FFA.

As his current Hume City coach Acsevski says, "“He’s got all the ability in the world he just needs an opportunity.”

Reddy is #1 and performed well behind a leaky defence last season, Izzo is an Olyroo and has just arrived as #2 and to push/cover for the 1st team spot.
Adam Pearce is the up and coming NYL keeper, why would we sign a third senior keeper? Was the trial just a way to save an airfare or is Reddy leaving?

Yes interesting. I did see that there is a mention on Soccer Stoppage Time that Reddy isn't training but not sure if that is an injury or just a bad rumour which does happen on SST. Certainly based on last years performance Liam deserves to keep his spot, but it could be that we are looking at young keepers to develop and sell.
