Did anyone else want to punch a f**king wall reading the foxsports article about how Garcia signing must be scrutinised?...

I mean for f**ks sake, old mate Caceres signs for Melbourne City after doing sweet f**k all for us all season and it's "Mariners best player signs for Melbourne City" but we sign a former champions league winner who just scored two against the commentators best mates and it's "fair play to the mariners, they are trying"

Makes me angry that level of bias but maybe that's just me

Think about it for a second:
  • Other clubs can be legitimately pissed off that:
    • we've managed to extract a transfer fee for what's effectively an intra-league transfer
    • MCFC have managed to use a transfer fee to acquire a player who otherwise would've been off-limits
  • Everyone has a right to be a little sceptical about whether it's a good idea to sign a 37 year old bloke whose last contract was in India more than a year ago, and whose last competitive game in a serious, full-time league was in November 2013 in Mexico. This isn't like picking up Zwanswijk from NAC Breda let alone Del Piero from Juve. It's a proper gamble, and it's probably not cheap.
I don't think anybody raising those points is being unreasonable.

Probably true - but I agree with Shipwreck "fair play to the mariners, they are trying" sounds pretty condescending to me.

Garcia as a mentor as everyone is saying could nay should turn our squad around ... done well it will have huge benefits in future years... on the other side I recall a personal issue I had many many many moons ago.... It was a year that the International University games came to Australia it was the late 90's.... I was teaching at TAFE at the time at Liverpool and wrote to the institute director seeking we put in a side ...

To cut to the issue I was appointed manager / captain / coach .... roughly we trailed about 20 teams to pick the best team... The team I had was unbelievable and then I realised I had mainly U 20 and second squad players from Parramatta Power, Sydney United, Marconi, Olympic, Blacktown Demons and Melta Eagles .... to say I was out of my depth even through my ego had said taking an u 21 team to the semie finals in champions of champions I was good... I soon realised every single player had a better coach than me... After only 3 training secessions I realised totally out of my comfort zone then approached a mate of mind who held NSL level coaching certificates to take over as coach and his first action was to drop me from the team... we are still mates...

Garcia will be used to coaching ability hhhmmm eeeerrrr aaaagggg lets say better than TW ... IMO how this is handled is critical to it working... I think , hope, our club's coaching and administration management will get this right as will Garcia...

Love the bit about you mates first decision .....drop Middy.
Priceless.

Regardless how good Garcia plays he will sell a lot of Garcia No.10 palm tree shirts ;)

I`m in on that one!
f**k it.

As requested Sean, not going to focus on his age, or the fact his wiki and the transfer pages listed him as retired
But that he was an exceptional player and he's going to be wearing our badge. It is cool. I'm not sure what it will do to attendance if we continue to lose games, but it will still be cool.
I'm not sure we will be any better for signing him on the field, but it will still be cool. At the least it will be interesting to see how he holds up.
Surely good for sponsors and giving the press something else to talk about when it comes to us.
Exciting for the youngsters to train with and a good connection for the club to make if things go well also.

Are we going to deploy him as a #10?

Nice work with chant too Dibo.
Luis Garcia, he drinks Sangria!
He came from Barca to Liverpool!
He's five-foot seven, he's football heaven!
So please don't take our Luis away!

So while technically it should be, ...he came from retirement to Gosford... I think your version is a better idea.;)

Line 3 " now he`s in football heaven"
Things are moving quickly so another summary

Liverpool legend Luis Garcia completes move to The Central Coast Mariners

Lee Thomas-Mason for Metro.co.uk
Saturday 16 Jan 2016 9:37 am
Former Liverpool forward Luis Garcia is back playing after signing a contract with A-League side The Central Coast Mariners.

Garcia recently dusted off his boots to play in a Liverpool Legends against an Australian XI, and finding the net was clearly enough to convince him not to officially hang up his boots despite not playing competitively since leaving the Indian Premier League.

The Champions League winner, who will turn 38 at the end of the season, has signed a short-term deal to bolster Tony Walmsley’s squad until at least the end of the current campaign, a statement read.

‘I am delighted to be joining a club like the Central Coast Mariners. This is an exciting challenge for me to play in the Hyundai A-League and with such a progressive club like the Mariners,’ Garcia said.

‘I am really looking forward to being on the Coast, meeting my fellow players, meeting the fans and to entertain them with my style of play.

‘One of the things that attracted me to the Club was the opportunity to share my experience with a young playing group. I am also looking forward to playing football in one of the most beautiful places in the world,’ Garcia added.

Will Garcia be a success in Australia?

Awesome work

Anyone listen to Sea FM this morning apparently Shaun was on.
I was listening latter in the day and they played a very tiny snippet saying Garcia arrives Thursday and they hope he can play Some of the game.

Big change from will play Sat on official announcement

Thanks Big Al,

We already get some of the Mariners players in, as apparently, the girls massage better than the Mariners Physio.
Yesterday I started a new lady with more than 5 years experience who had her own spa in Thailand, so now we can do facials and hot stone treatments as well.
Luis is welcome for a free hour at East Gosford Thai Massage.....not sure that we can afford to sponsor his kit!
Great things going well. Don't like those hot stone massages myself, had one in Cook Islands. Girl put the kettle on poured it on the coconut husk wrapped it in some thing and bang straight on my leg. Burnt the buggery out of me. I swore at her to get it off.

At 37 and not played for a while I'm pretty sure he will need that freebie

Wow! I figured they were just looking to present him on the weekend. Seems pretty harsh to send him straight on, but i suppose if he feels up to it - keen to see how has going for fitness :)
Worth bearing in mind that Thomas Sørensen is 39 and had also retired last year ;-)

I'm also disappointed by Fox reaction.
On shootout last night(1hr show about A League and some overseas stuff)
Had literally 90 seconds to open the show on it. A simple well done and Bozza saying if he succeeds the league hasn't improved and if he doesn't that's good means the league is moving forward.
Nothing even remotely close to the ADP hysteria. I know not the same but we are b
Getting the wow but he's to old talk. Could actually get bad press from this.

I'm glad he knows and is interested in helping the young boys because he might not like the Sydney press who bash him because he is not there's to care about.

Me and the missus are excited so stuff the rest of them

Thanks Rowdy, that there is a training video for all attacking players

Garcia shoots well from both feet.
Hopefully he can impart some technique suggestions to Austin, would definitely open up a whole new world to Mitch if he could learn even just a thing or two from the Spaniard.

Someone should do a highlight package of his shooting, failing to track and passing to the opposition.

Better yet, just show them HIS stats whilst he was here.

"67 top level games, 5069 minutes for 3 goals and 1 assist. the same output as Flores in 12 games and 850 minutes."

If you put that in an ad - even on Gumtree, the The Dept. Of Fair Trading would be all over you for trying to sell a clearly described faulty product.

Determined to talk us down to new levels ever since we axed moss. Even signing Garcia and we're almost redundant.

But don't worry, once Luis is here they won't dare diss him even if he's bad. They will however diss the club even more heavily. So let's hope he's good and then I guess Bozza has to bag the HAL for not moving forward. Which is patently untrue. TW will have to win the seat before they'll ever give him much credit I suspect.
