Fabio is a done deal and its a long contract. 2.5 years!!!

Central Coast Mariners are pleased to confirm that a deal for Portuguese winger Fabio Ferreira has been finalised through to the completion of Hyundai A-League season 12.
Ferreira links with the yellow and navy from rival Hyundai A-League outfit Adelaide United on a two-and-a-half season contract, effective immediately.

A former Sporting Lisbon and Chelsea FC youth player, Ferreira has averaged a goal every five games and contributed strongly to Adelaide United’s efforts since linking with the men from the city of churches in 2012.

Mariners boss Phil Moss said Ferreira, who is due to arrive on the Central Coast later this week, will add quality to his side’s attacking third.

“I am delighted to have secured the signature of a player I believe is one of the top wingers in the Hyundai A-League,” Moss said. “Fabio is an excitement machine, possesses genuine pace, and has a very strong record in the competition in terms of goals and assists.”

“He is also a player of fantastic character, a player who puts the team’s aims ahead of his personal ambitions. That is one of the reasons why he has been a fan favourite in Adelaide and we’re sure he will become a fan favourite during his time with us.”

“What also impressed me is that the first thing Fabio said to me is that he knows he needs to work hard to get into the team. He understands that we have quality players at the Club and that he’ll have to compete for his place each week.”

“With the right application we’re sure Fabio will have a real impact for us in the back half of this season, and during our 2015 AFC Champions League campaign.”

The Club will advise members, fans and media regarding Ferreira’s arrival at Central Coast Mariners in due course.

Reddy has, on occasions, been a superb keeper. I think you're letting the recent game where our backs put him out to slaughter as his general form. imho that's not the case.

I would say that Reddy has showed he is a superb SHOT STOPPER, not a superb keeper. His distribution is poor, he panics under pressure, particularly with the ball at his feet and his communication is non-existent, I dare say, because he doesn't read the play very well. We terribly miss Maty Ryan, a superb keeper with all the attributes I mentioned.

Yes but Matt Ryan is the best Australian keeper in the world at the moment, a player that good only comes around 2-3 times a generation in Australia (him and Langerak in the current crop, Bosnich and Schwarzer in the last generation). Reddy is a solid A-League keeper, which is why despite his off-the-field controversy and other issues he still has a starting gig. Put a decent defence in front of him, he'll do well. We have a shocking defence at the moment, and considering how bad they were against Sydney I think Reddy was a lot less angry than I would have wanted him. If it were me I would be grabbing Ando and Bosnar by the scruff of the neck.

Gatty's reporting that Fabio Ferreira has been released by Adelaide, with a clause that prevents him from playing against them (presumably for the remainder of the season).
Restraint of trade? Probably not, if it was agreed between all parties to the contract. There would be 4 parties, FFA, AU, CCMFC and Fabio Ferreira himself. Anyway we have 2 more games against AU, the rescheduled home game on 7/2 and the away game at Coopers on 12/3. It probably won't affect us much not having him there as it will take a little while for him to be integrated into the team, I would think. It's good news nonetheless. :)

He'll have at least 3 more weeks; no game this week, can't play the week after (vs Adelaide), may be available 21 Feb vs Sydney?

New Central Coast Mariners signing Fabio Ferreira says Phil Moss’s interest in him helped provide the motivation for the former Sporting Lisbon youth product to sign with the 2013 Hyundai A-League Champions.
Speaking to www.ccmariners.com.au following the confirmation of his deal with Central Coast, the 25-year-old Portuguese flyer said Moss’s appreciation of his dynamic play was one of the catalysts for him to ink his two-and-a-half season contract with the yellow and navy.

“The appreciation that the Mariners showed me was very important,” Ferreira said on Tuesday. “Phil showed me that he really likes me and that he really wants me in his team. That provided motivation for me to go to the Mariners, because if a coach likes you it’s important for your relationship and the team.”

Ferreira, who was on the books of world football heavyweights Chelsea FC from 2008 to 2009, said that he has always respected the Mariners, and believes he is coming into a team full of professional, purposeful, and passionate people.

“I am very happy with this new chapter of my life,” he said. “The Mariners are a great team and I am looking forward very much to the upcoming half of the season, and the two years after that that I will remain with the Club.”

“I don’t know many people there [at the Mariners] personally, but as a group it looks very compact. They are good guys and a strong team, so I am looking forward to meeting my new teammates and trying to help them all to reach the finals this year.”

Ferreira said he hopes to commence training with the Mariners as soon as Friday, and is also keen to show his talents to millions of football fans in Asia should Central Coast qualify for a fourth consecutive group stage appearance in the AFC Champions League.

The Club’s one-off qualifier against Guangzhou R&F (China), Yadanarbon FC (Myanmar) or Warriors FC (Singapore) will take place at Gosford’s Central Coast Stadium on Tuesday 17 February.

“The ACL is obviously a very big competition,” he said. “So it will be good to play in that and show what I can do in Asia.”

Ferreira also moved to thank Adelaide United, his former teammates and fans for their support during his time in the city of churches.

“I have enjoyed a lot the three years I have been here [in Adelaide],” he said. “The Club [Adelaide United] gave me an opportunity and I really appreciated it. I have shared a big relationship with everyone, so I would like to say ‘thank you’ to the Club and fans for everything.”

Adding to his comments from earlier on Tuesday, Central Coast Mariners boss Moss said Ferreira is precisely the type of player he has been looking to add to his squad.

“I have been looking for a player to come in who will create and score goals on a regular basis and Fabio fits that mould,” Moss said. “He’s at a good age to develop further and his best years are still ahead of him.”

“He [Ferreira] represents my vision for this football team moving forward,” Moss said.

Agreed - I dont think you could blame him for any of the goals on the weekend, whereas the back four were absolutely responsible for at least four of them.

Welcome fabio

The extra rest should ensure he is not rushed back being to keen to impress his new team mates. Better off waiting those couple of weeks and unleashing him healthy. Hasn't had barely any 90 min footy so will take a while to build him up. Might be a good pick up or next year because by the time we get him ready it will be late the way the team is playing
