"Arnold has always been a savvy bargain hunter and his exceptional record of developing youth at the Central Coast Mariners is a model he won't shy away from replicating with the Sky Blues."

With Mane gone, Cairncross in as injury cover for Griffiths and now Neill rumoured to have a fractured foot we have 2 spots available in January. One has to be a first choice CB!!

TBH - I would take both DeVere and ONeill. Starting CBs of DeVere and Poscoliero would do me and ONeill shows a bit of promise. .

he was in our nyl team a few years ago wasn't he

He was, yes.. He was offered a youth contract renewal when Dukie and the others were moved to first team. From memory, the comments were that he was very promising but needed a bit more honing.
Wanderers swooped in with a senior contract and so, he left.
From what I've seen, I'd suggest we were right... Not sure whether he's interesting as a first team prospect now, considering the cattle we have etc... But what do I know? :)

Kim is officially gone

@ccmariners: FAREWELL KIM: We can advise that South Korean playmaker Kim Seung-yong has left #CCMFC: http://t.co/bnwwIiWxbA http://t.co/n9wJiCudvV

Central Coast Mariners can today advise that the club has terminated South Korean attacker Kim Seung-yong’s contract by mutual consent.
Kim, who scored in last weekend’s 3-3 draw with Brisbane Roar and celebrated with the club’s fans and his teammates with gusto and pride, has an opportunity to play closer to his homeland and family which he is keen to pursue.

The former Gamba Osaka and Ulsan Hyundai playmaker has been a model professional since joining the yellow and navy in February 2014.

Kim scored twice last campaign – including an impressive free kick at home to Sydney FC – and once this season, and also featured for the Mariners against one of his former clubs, FC Seoul, throughout the 2014 AFC Champions League Group Stage.

A popular member of the playing squad, Kim leaves the Mariners with the best wishes of everyone involved with the club.

Kim is due to depart Sydney for Seoul on Saturday.

He copped a lot and he still celebrated with fans after his goal like he was proud to be a Mariner.
Farewell Kim!

I reckon we could use Saba as well , he turns over a lot of ball so would fit in beautifully , but might unlock the final 1/3 for us ?
Saba has been selected for tomorrow's game. Is it confirmed that he has been released or is it just rumours in the WSW forums at this stage?

At least the club had the good grace to say something nice about him. It can be very difficult to fit into another country's culture, especially with a language barrier. It didn't work out but kudos to both parties for trying. The test now is for Moss to bring in a quality replacement as it is the visa player recruitment that has hurt us the most this season

After last week, I'm starting to wonder if, whoever it was who said we needed a decent CB, wasn't right. Matty is offering quite a bit more up front and he's frustrating defences enough to potentially inspire some of the other guys, but it's not much good if our defensive line keeps collapsing and isn't moving for Reddy to get the ball...
Then again, the way we are these days, I may well have changed my mind on that again by Friday morning...

We had 26 on the books and have now released both Mane and Kim. Griffiths is out for the season and it looks likely that Michael will be gone for a while. That takes us to 22. So we have four positions assuming Michael's injury is season ending. Cairncross is in as injury cover for Brent so that leaves 3 positions. If there is truth in the Anderson transfer request, possibly 4. 2 CBs including 1 starting CB is a must. The other one needs to be a quality striker. I doubt this will happen.

What I expect to see - Brandon O'Neill from Perth and Travis Major from Blacktown.

I would imagine Mane and Kim were on good dollars so we might be able to spend more than just getting Travis Major (although it would not surprise me if he joined us); I'd love Ando to go; will Mossy trawl the lesser Asian leagues, with the help of newly appointed talent spotter David Mitchell, and sign Michael Beauchamp or John McKain, or Robbie Cornthwaite? :innocent:
