just no more Asian imports or third tier strikers from the UK lower leagues....surely some Aussies out there in Asia or OZ who wanna come back home.
Shane Smeltz had scored 2 goals in 31 appearances for Halifax Town in the 5th tier of English football at the point he was recruited by Wellington.

…and as captain of my fantasy team in seasons gone by, he was worth his weight in gold ;)

Sim is a toiler. Every squad needs them but I think the A league is beyond him. Even between this season and last it's moved right past him.
Goodluck to him but I'd prefer us to pick up someone else.
We clearly in changing of the guard faze so another poscalario or Neill would be better than holding Sim IMO.

He is now 3rd choice Lb (which I never thought he was any way). He is maybe 2nd choice left winger midfield but I'd rather give others including imports that spot.

A mossy fav. and good luck to him but its a sign of our poor recruitment IMO

I think he's basically filling the same spot that Kwas did - utility cover for a range of spots, unlikely to be eating up heaps of cap space. You're always going to have a couple in your squad.

Kwassie had far more talent.

Anyone think that would have turned out differently under Arnie?

Yeah I've wondered. But f**k Arnie man management speculation. What we can be sure of is that things would have been turning out differently if we still had Weemac, Bernie and Clarkey.

Not so sure. He messed with the back 4 repeatedly last season before he left with the weekend squad.

Not convinced he'd have done much better but would he got more out of Mane most probably but was it the style of play or just home sickness that got him.

Al,
Tbh, I think he was shocked at how bad we were and how he was being asked to play.
I'm tipping if he had joined a successful team he would still be here.

That would be a pretty big call for a guy that's been off-handed by both of his last two clubs and who's had relatively little game time on a whole methinks.
It's a shame, I really held high hopes for him, but if, as someone on here suggested, he had expected to be able to get a visa for his wife and it was turned down, this shortly after having their first child, I think it's fair to say that at least, there are indications that there could be other reasons than our quality of play.

Senegal has produced some good players, but I seriously doubt that this is the worst football he's ever seen or been part of... He's played in the Norwegian first division... It's not the worst out there, but it certainly isn't the best... Not even in Norway ;)

On a whole, I wouldn't put the Norwegian league all that far ahead of the Australian one - there are better players, in no small part thanks to teams like Rosenborg and players having an easier time playing out-of-country... But it's hardly far enough ahead in quality to justify throwing a hissyfit after a-month-and-a-half.

I'm tipping, if he had joined Melbourne Victory or Perff or whatever, he would still have thrown a hissyfit... It might have taken a little longer because, let's face it, no professional sportsman likes to lose, but I'm thinking it would have shown up eventually.

Your prob right but he wasn't as good as he thought he was either.
Not sure if we were excited because everyone else playing that bad. He did lack polish but did provide something we didn't have. Overall he wasn't one of the better imports in the league so may as well try again.

He was very rough. But he had pace and could beat a player...exactly what you want from a winger.
I would love to hear what he thinks but I bet it wouldn't be complementary.....so we will probably not get to hear why he was so keen to skip.
