I don't know what's sadder, that we are being linked with players like David Williams or that I'm genuinely excited about it :/

I'm also genuinely excited if the rumour is true.:) But...i do rate him, always have. Outscored Berisha and ADP in a unperforming team last year shows he can score goals, but i see him as a provider as much as a goal scorer. He is strong, has skill and is still at a good age. What would be great is to get 2 or 3 players in Jan (and offload a couple!) so we can push for a top 6 berth this season but more importantly be around the next couple of seasons so we can build what we have into another great team.

'Versatile midfielder Glen Trifiro will remain with the Central Coast Mariners until the completion of the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 season after he finalised a two-season contract extension with the Club on Wednesday.

Versatile midfielder Glen Trifiro will remain with the Central Coast Mariners until the completion of the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 season after he finalised a two-season contract extension with the Club on Wednesday.

Trifiro, 25, arrived at Central Coast Stadium in February this year and has since impressed the Mariners’ coaching staff, his teammates and fans not only with his ability on the field, but his professional, holistic approach to the game.

As Central Coast Mariners boss Phil Moss continues to construct a squad he believes is capable of challenging the Hyundai A-League’s best for domestic honours over the coming years, Trifiro is among the first players to recommit to the Club’s vision to secure success, silverware, and regular qualification for the AFC Champions League.

“I have made it clear that over the next three years we are building a new team, and there’s no doubting that Glen is a big part of our plans,” Moss said. “He’s a wonderful professional, and the way he comes in and goes about his work with great application daily is to be commended.”

Technically and tactically adept, Trifiro – known to his teammates as ‘Tricky’ – has played the majority of his football for the Club this campaign as a ten, however Moss knows that the former Sydney United 58 schemer has plenty of strings to his bow, and can be deployed elsewhere in his side’s engine room if and when required.

“He [Trifiro] offers us a lot of flexibility in midfield, “ Moss added. “He’s a very effective player, he’s technically very good and he’s shown how deadly he can be from set-piece situations.”

“We have a lot competition in the squad for the three midfield spots that he can play, so what’s impressive for me is that whether Tricky starts or comes off the bench he adds value to the game, he influences the game.”

“He’s also one of the guys in the squad that’s at an in-between age – he’s not a young boy, but he’s not a senior player. For me that’s a positive because he acts as a link, if you like, between the youngsters coming through and our more established players.”

“Glen’s ticked every box that I’ve put in front of him since he’s come in, and I’m delighted he has committed to the football club for another two years,” Moss concluded.

Having secured his playing future through to mid-2017, Trifiro said it is now his responsibility to pay back the faith that the Mariners and Moss have instilled in him.

“When ‘Mossy’ [Phil Moss] spoke with me initially about an extension I was very happy,” Trifiro said. “I only joined the Club earlier this year, so to be given an extension quite soon, I was thrilled.”

“As soon as it sunk in I began setting new goals. I feel my best football is in front of me, and my aim is to establish myself as a first eleven player and have an effect on games.”

“I am confident I can perform at this level and I am excited to be representing the Mariners for the next two seasons.” '

Trifiro, who has played his football in a variety of destinations across Australia in the past, is embracing life on the Coast, and says the Club’s family and community culture sit well with him.

“Life on the Coast is great,” he said. “My partner and I enjoy living on the Central Coast, because we enjoy being outdoors and obviously the Coast is a very beautiful place. It’s [the Mariners] a very family orientated Club, and that’s important to us.”

Good news. I rate him and he seems to fit right in with the Mariners culture. Tricky is only in his first full season as a pro so i would expect we will see the best of him next season and beyond. Lots of negativity lately but i really feel we can build another great side over the next few seasons as Mossy alludes to.

f**k David Williams.

I'd seriously rather we sign no one. He won't improve the team.

We're set to resign Neill as well

http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/article/2014/12/11/moss-offers-neill-new-mariners-deal

Central Coast whiz-kid Mickey Neill is set to sign a new contract with the Mariners following a hugely impressive start to his A-League career.

The attacking left-back has been a shining light in a difficult campaign for the club and after just six senior appearances the board has moved swiftly to offer Neil an improved deal it expects him to sign after Saturday's clash with Wellington.

Neill is the latest product to progress from the Mariners' youth system and having lost the likes of Tom Rogic, Bernie Ibini and Mat Ryan in recent years, coach Phil Moss is keen to stop Neill becoming the latest player to walk through the exit door.

"We're renegotiating at the moment, but that's in its final stages and I expect that to be finalised in the next few days," Moss said.

"Mickey is a great kid, still very young, but he is willing to listen and learn. We're delighted with how he's performed this year.

"He squeezed Josh Rose out of the left back spot and for a young player that is no mean feat."

Despite his tender years and slight frame, Moss said he never had any doubts Neill could step up to the A-League and predicted a big future for the young Sydneysider.

"I am not at all surprised by how well he as gone," he said.

"I wanted to put him in the side last year, but he picked up an unfortunate injury which held him back a bit. But he has got stronger and more confident with each game. He's a joy to work with."

Midfielder Glen Trifiro has also committed his future to the Mariners after putting pen to paper on a two-year deal on Thursday.

The 25-year-old joined the club last February and Moss said his recent performances merited an upgraded contract.

"'Tricky's' come into the game relatively late, but is a great pro who works hard at his game," Moss said.

"He's done very well for us this year and is a player I see very much as part of our future."

Let's hope he doesn't sign him and then play him a a centre back.
I was very alarmed that he was mentioning Sim as a striker.
Scary and perplexing at times some of the things he comes out with.

so we're on the lookout for a striker, &
McBreen's on the lookout for a club.

what's the likelihood?
would it be a good move?

it's probably not the way forward as he's surely due to retire any time soon. plus we should be looking for a Berisha-type (even though we likely don't have the money for one)

on the other hand he brings real experience and can play at 10 when required. by which I mainly mean he can create as well as score. he also brings what Matty has brought back - physical presence and some fight, and we've seen the benefits of that already.

so I dunno. really we need a fast, younger gun striker. failing this I'd be happy having McBreen back. ideally we'd get both.

McBreen would be good to have on the books but I think we need a more long term prospect. Experienced but still have 5-6 more good years them.

Not a bad squaddie. Not HAL standard yet. Not his fault he gets selected so frequently when he isn't ready. I dare say he's on $4 an hr too so that helps...

I think he's basically filling the same spot that Kwas did - utility cover for a range of spots, unlikely to be eating up heaps of cap space. You're always going to have a couple in your squad.
