For what it's worth...Bernie did give credit to the mariners in his first Sydney interview...

First 30 seconds...and he was not prompted at all!

He seemed determined to make that point...so I guess that's something

Still hurt by him!
Cheers I hadn't listened

3 spots to fill

A GK - probably Nash
A CB - maybe Madaschi
A forward -I'd like Rukavytsya - Mainz loaned him out and now seems to be on the outer at Frankfurt. Still contracted for a year at Mainz but if he is not wanted he may be released. Ideal like for like replacement for Bernie.

Nash would come for minimum money

He would be somewhat of a last resort...

See who we can get

If nobody's good enough then we can take him

Nash is worse than Pasfield......someone better please.

We need a quality centre back, a genuine attacking mid (like Flores) and a 10 goal a season striker.

Apart from that we don't look too bad.

Tyson has been released by Wanderers. He's young and looked Ok at Gold Coast; if Nash is better than him I would be surprised.

McKain. McGlinchey, and Duke to get his arse into gear.

Marcos is not the answer. Marcos is better than everyone we have in his spot but when he was injured we replaced him...we have to understand that. Bernie is a striker and plays in a different possie.

Losing Bernie is a hammer blow but Arnie spent hours teaching him the basics and gave him his big break so its not surprised he stuck with Arnie. Having said that Arnie has officially burnt his bridges and I will boo him as loud as I can.

I can't bring myself to blame Bernie, either.

Arnie is the target of my vitriol. Flashing his Smurf FC cash around, Grrrrr!

Also, Roar have released their 2nd GK, Matthew Acton. He is 21 and has been in their Youth League/A-League setup for 7 years. Anyone got any goss on this young GK?

Seen him play once (and only highlights)

A bit hard to judge reserve goalkeepers such as Tyson and Acton etc.
But it is interesting to compare the sentiment of their ex-fans

Tyson = a lot of western sydney fans sad to see him go

Pasfield = some mariners fans sad to see him go...some not

Acton = very few brisbane fans are sad...

Take from that what you will :p

If Perth are getting Tyson and they still have Danny then Jack Duncan their other goalkeeper is a very good keeper, only 21 as well and would be good to nurture (know him from my boy playing against him and watching him at Nationals, also in Ozzie U20 side (I think it is).

Thanks Kareem.

I have to say 2nd GK in a squad must be the hardest place to be.
If the first is doing well, you never play a game.
If the first has a drama, you are under the pump from everyone knowing that you're the "second best".

As for the Roar fans not being sad: Would we be sad if Pasfield was leaving and we still had Mat Ryan (our Michael Theo)?

I didn't think Mossy wanted Smeltz. Moss seems to want speed in transition with Fitzy and Bernie last year. Smeltz was never quick.

Well we have Dukey who is fast, but whats the point of all this speed if we can't finish?

Also I have heard of the Brosque to Sydney too, it seems to be everywhere, but nothing official yet.

Also on topic of sadness re: back up keepers:

Some are sad J.Pas is gone because he was visible, had started games, saved out buts a few times when Maty was off jet setting with those international call ups, and did have a couple of good games despite the massive cock up that was the Jets away that killed his season. Reddy is good but isn't miles and miles ahead of Justin, and having Justin was a good safety blanket in the event Reddy got injured or had poor form, we knew we had a decent back up. Now we have a big ass question mark and will be very unlikely to get a player of Pasfield's quality in.

The reason (I postulate) some are sad that Tyson has left the Wanderers is because he is relatively young, held a clean sheet in his one outing, has experience in the A-League (a dozen or so games for GCU), and has gotten call-ups to youth national sides. Most importantly, his youth and promising indication of talent would alleviate any fears of what were to happen if Covic (39 by next season's start) were it a day in the next 12 months.

As for Acton, he has played 2 games in his however many years with Brisbane, has no experience elsewhere, and, most importantly, Brisbane fans are a bunch of fickle bandwagoners who only turn up for Grand Final day so have no idea what is going on in their squad anyway ;)
Seriously though, both Pasfield and Tyson have had more visible and experienced careers where-as Acton is "just" a youth product who has been sitting behind an established starter of 4 seasons who doesn't look like he will be going anywhere any time soon.
