Sorry to see Marco move on but that's football, I wonder who will be next seasons kicking bag to fill his place for some on the forum. He has to be up there with the best Visa players the club has had.

What was looking like a settled team in the off season certainly has changed shape in the last week or two. Looking forward to the Aust Cup match and it's an important game as a cup run benefits your pre-season with some competitive fixtures not just trials. Feeling a little less confident against Shitney now.

Club statement...

Central Coast Mariners would like to confirm that we have agreed to release striker Marcos Urena for family Reasons. Marcos will return to his home country Costa Rica.

This is a decision that was made in the interest of Urena and his family
and while disappointed, the club wishes Marcos all the best in his return home.

Marcos stated “I would like to thank Central Coast Mariners and all its supporters for giving my family an amazing experience in the past two seasons. My family is disappointed to be returning home but I must return to Costa Rica for family reasons. Again, thank you very much”

The Club will be making no further comment at this stage.

Very sad to lose Urena, not only for his talent on the pitch but as a leader off it. Hope he can find a club that will put him the frame for World Cup selection.

Monty now has a big war chest and needs to use it. This will be the biggest test of Monty and Sergio's tenure. Monty inherited a successful framework which has now evaporated, even managers with far bigger budgets struggle with rebuilding after that. Corica/Brenber are prime examples of that.

I hope the new ownership will back him to the hilt financially. If Monty does get that then we can bring in players that are a cultural fit as much as a footballing one.

We now need not only talented players but leaders as well. The players brought in will set the tone for our younger Academy graduates and it is imperative that we get that right.

We can't afford another slide to the bottom.

I trust in Monty, Sergio and Ken to do recruit the right players but Peil will have to provide the financial capacity to do so.

Spot on.
All we can do is take Rich’s word for it right now. But he’s already showing a 1000% more hands on approach than dirty mike. And the extensions of key players which you can put your house on, included salary rises. I expect Rich to provide Monty with the finances needed.

There is a short term danger in going from a disinterested absentee boss to a really enthusiastic mega hands on boss.
It changes the entire culture of the organisation and the pace and scale of the change can cause noses to go out of joint and some resent the increased over sight
These things always settle and are not necessarily bad (quite the reverse possibly) but they do cause upheaval.
Marco didnt leave for this reason but expect the club to be a bit chaotic short term

Marco is a loss and I am sorry to see him go, however his loss is not a disaster.
We do now have a couple of gaps.
Hopefully Sozer can fill the GK one.
We definitely need a good, experienced CB. Someone like Zwanny would do.
DM is ok.
But now we definitely need a quality #10/AM to provide for Cummings as our striker and Benni and Kuolo on the wings.
Spend the remaining budget on this position and we will be unbeatable.

Let's all hope we don't sign a cb who's been playing in Indonesia and is past the age of 33 and is injury prone like Jacques fatty

I think we already have the front half of our squad. DMs e structure as last year but Ayongo for Urena (Matty to cover Moresche until he’s back) and Kuol on the left instead of Hatch/Cy.

I don’t think Urena going is a surprise to the team, Ayongo makes more sense now. I heard whispers about 6 months ago that Urena may be free to go, more to bring experience that was a bit younger/faster to suit the squad better.

Visa CB, potentially a keeper or hold into the visa spot to see how the early season plays out.

I would be confident in the club using these departures to upgrade our options in both positions whilst the visa CB has been a known for a few weeks, Urena’s departure now means we have the opportunity to also consider a visa GK too, which will really open up our options.

I too feel we could use an experienced No.6/8 but am also reluctant to see that impact overly on the development of our younger players.

Challenge now with so many senior players going and those players that guide and direct the younger players....

Departures:
- Nicolai Muller (Headed back to Germany)
- Oliver Bozanic (Joined Western Sydney Wanderers)
- Noah Smith (Joined Melbourne Victory)
- Ruon Tongyik (Rumoured to be chased by 3 A-League clubs)
- Lewis Miller (Was joining Macarthur FC until he terminated that contracted and joined Scottish club Hibernian FC)
- Kye Rowles (Joined Scottish club Hearts FC)
- Mark Birighitti (Joined Scottish club Dundee United)
- Marcus Urena ( left for home)

The bolded players would have been on decent money, and also where the body of the club in guiding the younger players...

Add to this an increase in funding from the new owner, plus also the transfer fees for Rowles & Birghitti..

Signings to date:

- Michael Ruhs (from Macarthur FC)
- Thomas Aquilina (from Western Sydney Wanderers)
- Sam Silvera (on a 3 year deal)
- Paul Ayongo (The 25 year old Ghanaian forward is signed on a two year deal)

My guess is only Paul Ayongo is on top money...

Meaning

We have a war chest the kind I guess we have never had...... further we need some of the newer players to also fill those guidance roles that those who have left brought the club...

As always if its obvious to us... it must also be obvious to the club....

Big test for Monty in rebuilding a team.... many coaches fail at this...
