Not directing this a JP or anyone else in particular but I think its easy to say X would be worth a minimum wage deal when the reality is we'd need to spend a bit more than that to secure their services and have them in a good mindset. Even if someone begrudgingly accepts minimum wage its not going to reflect well in their attitude and it's not like we have the draw card of being Sydney or Victory regular title contenders or obviously building a killer squad like Perth. It might be an option for new players who will then be looking for a bump in a year or two after being established or for someone desperately looking to avoid dropping to NPL (do we really want that player though?). I'd be very surprised if we've got someone like Melling who's played regularly taking minimum wage and I can't see why he'd want to.
Lastly we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that the minimum wage for players isnt that much money. If I'm in my mid 20s and people consistently want me to sign for that much I'd be thinking about life after football. Going to play NPL and working would be tempting.
