Mariners go West, but this is no pet shop

The Central Coast Mariners will use the backdrop of Dubbos iconic Western Plains Zoo to launch their official Hyundai A-League 2009-10 season pre-season campaign, with a trial match against the Wellington Phoenix in the Central West city on Saturday, 25 July.

The announcement continues the Mariners strong presence in the Central West of New South Wales, having played out draws against both Adelaide and Queensland in visits to Orange in the 2006 and 2007 pre-season cup competitions.

Our club is committed to spreading the football gospel to the wider community and is passionate about continuing to expand the support base of the Mariners. People in the Central West have proven their love of the game in the past and we think Dubbo deserves a chance to witness top class football, said executive chairman Lyall Gorman.

We thank everyone at Western Football NSW for the effort they have made, and congratulate them in successfully attracting top class football to the region, and look forward to contributing to its continued growth in the Central West.

I know the lads always enjoy taking matches to new locations and Im sure everyone will be excited about the prospect of introducing themselves to the people of Dubbo. I was out there last week and was impressed with what I saw. There is a large football community out there, so it should make for a fantastic spectacle, said Mariners football manager Lawrie McKinna.

The clash will provide the perfect platform for the Mariners to go in search of an elusive goal against their trans-Tasman rivals, having not netted in the past three matches involving the two sides.

It will also be a chance for Mariners marksman Adam Kwasnik to renew acquaintances with the club he departed at the end of the last Hyundai A-League campaign, in order to return to the Mariners.

The Mariners visit will involve community activities scheduled around the match, details of which will be announced in due course.

Ticketing details will also be advised once final details are confirmed.

Mariners membership packages for the Hyundai A-League 2009/10 season will soon be released to existing Mariners members, before they are unveiled to the general public. (???)

TBF, we usually only had 1 or 2 PSC games plus the 2 games at Pluim.

They may not want to play in front of a small, local crowd at the moment.

Is no different than in the past, in past years we have only ever had a game or 2 against the lightning at pluim and maybe a trial against the jest on the coast plus 1 pre season cup match.

we have taken games to Orange twice and played in Central Queensland before at least 2 of our seasons. The GC game was supposed to be in Lismore and the nix game in Dubbo is the same as the pre season cup games being in regional areas, this gets an interest for the club and league in general in these areas.

The Canberra games are going to be down there, we have a link with the association and until they get their own franchise we will play 2 games down there pre season as a matter of course.

A game against Sydney at knox has happened every year hasn't it?

Also have just played 3 awful ACL games, or "pre-season" as the team seemed to think of them

Tickets to A-league game now available
BARRY HILDEBRANDT
22/06/2009

Grandstand tickets go on sale from 10.30am today for the Central Coast Mariners versus Wellington Phoenix A-League trial match to be played at Dubbos Apex Oval on Saturday July 25.

Operations and development manager for Western NSW Football Andrew Fearnley said organisers had been amazed with the response from the public for the match.

I would suggest that because of the overwhelming support shown thus far by the football community in Dubbo and surrounding areas, it is important that those wishing to obtain grandstand tickets do so early, he said.

The point of sale for tickets is the Dubbo RSL Club in Brisbane Street and grandstand tickets will be $20 and can be purchased from Monday at 10.30am in person and from 11.30am via telephone on 6882 4411.

There will also be general admission tickets at $10 for adults and $5 for students and concession.

These tickets will go on sale from Monday, July 6 at 10.30am in person and phone.

The other thing to remember for ticket sales is that they can be purchased between 8.30am and 4pm Monday to Fridays.

On game day the gates will open at 2.45pm for a 6pm kick-off of the main game.

The main preliminary game will feature Western Premier League teams Dubbo Bulls and defending premiers Westside Panthers as well as a host of junior games and activities.

I think it is a good pre-season line up as the squad will come together late. Depending on players coming in over the next few weeks they may have a slow start to the season. Doig will be the key to help stablise the defense.

We still haven't fixed Centre Mid.  Hutcho is useless and needs to play on the flanks or in the yoof team.

What's this place like for watching the game ?

Is it on the flat or does it have a hill/grandstand ?

Just wondering whether it's worth a look on the way home from work.
